He hears a noise upstairs and follows the sound. He walks into the bathroom to find Jamie dead in the bathtub. At first he sees that Jamie's throat has been slashed, but on second look it's Jamie's wrists. Jamie has committed suicide. Troy rushes down the stairs and out the front door.

Troy wakes up from a coma seven weeks after his attack. His mental facilities are intact, but he has lost the use of his legs.

He becomes paranoid that she will leave him because of his handicap.

Trina goes to Tommy Waters, Troy's best friend and former partner, to see if he can help Troy to deal with his handicap.

What he finds is very disturbing.

Amid all the negative emotions that keep hammering Troy he discovers a remarkable power that he never knew he had. Soon, Trina and Tommy will find out the true power and madness that Troy has become.

I was born in Alabama but spent my years as a toddler up to age 13 in Baltimore, MD. Then my family moved back to Alabama.

After high school, I joined the Air Force, where I spent five and a half years. Two and a half of those years I spent in Misawa, Japan.

After the Air Force, I went into the electrical business. I became a foreman and received a Georgia state license.

I started writing books several years ago. It was a rocky start. I made some mistakes. But I learned.

As of May 2nd, 2025, I am offering a complimentary eBook, "The Nexus", to everyone who signs up for my newsletter.
This is NOT Nexus. That is an older book that is no longer in print.

I received this book from the Author with the request of giving it a review. I was intrigued from the moment I started it. It was absolutely nothing like I thought it would be, actually it was far from it. I was very impressed with what I read and and how well the story flowed. I was hooked till the story ended, rather than having the feeling of, ugh I need to put this aside for a bit.

I feel the characters could have been a little better built, maybe a bit more backstory for each of them. I also felt that maybe there were some characters that just kind fell by the wayside. But other than that the book was quite enjoyable.

It is a twisted tale of psychological terror pure and simple. No it is not a tale of a serial killer, but a tale of a human mind, and what can be done with it. The Author has a great gift of pulling his readers in quickly and leaving them there as he presents a chilling tale of the impossible, while at the same time making us question how much would actually be possible if we put our minds to it, pun intended.

I look forward to more from this Author because after reading this, I am quite intrigued by him and his work. I can say that I will be reading more, anticipating his growth as an author.

I received this novel as part of Goodreads First Reads program.

I have to say, I absolutely loved this book. The way Mr. Martin hooks the reader in from the very first paragraph is wonderful. I thoroughly enjoy a book when I just cannot put it down. I wanted to know how it all tied together and how it all ended.

The only drawback I found were some typos, but those can be easily overlooked and does not distract from the novel.

Great find for paranormal fans!

I received this book free from the author as part of a First Reads giveaway! The title itself intrigued me! It was a fairly simple book to read and it was a quick read. I really did enjoy the story line and I was surprised by what the main character would find out about himself. It is rather scary to come to realize what the human mind is capable of. My heart truly ached for Trina throughout this story. I was rooting for Tommy to rescue Trina. I honestly can say I was surprised by the ending and when I read the end my heart did break for Trina.

The typos/grammar issues irked me enough to make a list of them to send to the author so he can maybe get them corrected for a 2nd edition! They were few and minor and did not distract at all from the story so do not let that stop you from getting your hands on this book! I enjoyed the story and look forward to more from Gary M. Martin! Good job!

I obtained this book through a Goodreads First-reads giveaway...

The Coming of Dark by Gary M. Martin is a psychological, paranormal thriller about a police detective named Troy, who is attacked and critically injured when he's caught filming the murder of an informant by a local crime boss.

Seven weeks after his attack, Troy wakes up from a coma to find he has loss the use of his legs. He doesn't handle the paralysis very well and takes out his frustration and anger on his wife, Trina. After Trina struggles with helping Troy she goes to Troy's best friend and former partner, Tommy Walters, to see if he can help Troy deal with his new handicap. But after talking to Troy with no positive results, Tommy begins to look into the suicide of Troy's childhood friend, Jamie, to see if there might be a connection with all of the anger he has been displaying and what Tommy finds out is very disturbing.

I was extremely intrigued with this book from the very start and have to agree with past readers, the story is very original and I also can't wait to read more from this author!

I won this book through goodreads giveaway.
Looked forward to reading this book but found it really a different read for me. I did give it a 3 start since I felt it was a good book. This is a paranormal suspense which to be honest I have not really read this kind before.

The author I did find to be quite good and his character interact quite well.
Troy who is the main character is a police detective. He has just woke up from a coma which he has been in for seven weeks. Troy wakes up to find that he has changed and has a new found unique power that he did not have before.

His friend Tommy who has known him for years senses that there is a change in Troy and that he is not the person he thought that he knew. Troy's life has change but is it for the good or for something different.

If you like paranormal suspense here is the book for you. I will give it a try again to read one.
