Book 2 of an epic Xianxia Cultivation Series perfect for fans of Beware of Chicken and Cradle . The series features weak-to-strong power progression, a light scientific approach to magic, tons of alchemy, spirit beast companions, and so much more.
Lost 2 stars for God damn confusing names. I don't understand authors need to deliberately be annoying. Why the fuck choose similar sounding names for two different characters? Yin and Yan Yun. Why did China run out of fucking names??? It fucking gets God damn annoying real quick with Yin said and Yun said.
For anyone still believing that the audiobook version will be released do yourself a favor and forget this series exists. Let me just say I have nothing against the author and like his other series. Okay I stand corrected after more than 1 year of putting out a new release date every month and then pushing that date on the day of release by 1 month it has actually been released.
However that doesn't change any of what I've written below. There is such a thing as taking baiting people too far!!! This second installment has changed release date every month on the day it is suppose to be released or 1-2 days prior for around a year now. As if that isn't enough the same has been happening with book 3 in the series for around 6-4 months. I can understand it happening once. But even that is an extremely rare occurrence on amazon. The fact that it is still going on 1 year after it first started. Well it doesn't take a genius to figure out something fishy is going on with the series audible release. There was even one month where the 3rd installment was scheduled to be released 1 month before the 2nd installment.
This also has a completely broken power curve. A boring start with a horribly balanced middle leads to an unremarkable end. This is a big mess of plot armor railroaded forward with so many secrets and twists that the story doesn't matter.
These books have a way of taking a character who seems too overpowered and giving them challenges that strip them of their advantages and force them to grow. I'm excited to learn all the laws of communication!
Read this book. Read this series. There is truly enough material here for two or three books, so take your time and absorb it as you go. There is a LOT going on. Our hero, Lu Jie (loo jee-ah approximately), remembers his previous life on Earth. This helps him on his dual- soul path, but it was slow going until they merged in the last book. In this book, Jie aquires even more spirit animals and plants. Including the World Tree he has from before. Also, I'm shipping hard for Jie and the lovely Shie heir. He accepts her for who and what she is, is NOT scared of her, and children will not be an issue, as they were for her poor mother. She can bear them without any damage. No more hints. This one borders on being a spoiler. 😉 It is an awesome story. Please read it and support this hard-working writer. 9/10 unicorns 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 No typos, world-building spot-on, characters do nothing but develop!
An interesting and fairly polished cultivation story for those looking for more in that style.
I do feel like the progression is a little off to this volume as the story seems to take its characters and progression in different and unexpected directions. This might be a pro to some readers and a con to others.
I think fans of the later Battle Mage Farmer books might like this series.
An extremely enjoyable continuation to the series. I feel like it constantly breaks the mold of a what a xianxia novel is supposed to be. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
I enjoyed reading this book very much and I recommend this book to anyone who likes LitRPG and progression type of books with lots of action and cultivation.
I liked this book but there were some problems. The first problem is the audiobook release date was pushed back almost a whole year. That is a long time to wait. The second main problem is that there was almost a bait and switch with the plot. It is supposed to be about a guy from earth who gets transported to another world in the body of a cultivator. He uses his knowledge from home to become a great alchemist. Bringing science and industry into this world.
There was some of that in this book but it actually turned out to be a small part. This is more of a standard Isekai story, instead of a alchemy or cultivation story. I didn't mind the story itself but it isn't what was promised. I can see why people would be upset with the way things go. There were aspects of many different things in this one but that wasn't the focus. The MC has many spirit animals in the first book. I thought they would be more of a focus in this one but while they were present, there role was minor at best. The alchemy was also similar. There was some of that in the story but again, it turned into a minor part of the story. The real story is the presence of chi. In this world there was only Ki and Goo, but the MC has mixed those back together to form chi and the heavens are not happy. The world is seeking to be healed and uses the MC to fight the heavens and heal itself. That is the main plot in this story. I did like it enough to get the next one.
I am enjoying this series, yet the first volume was much better. The characters, especially the main character Lu Jie, are leveling up much to fast. It just seems so easy. I guess I'm used to Will Wight and how they level up. Fast moments and slow moments. Lu Jie is just skipping right on ahead. It makes sense in some ways.
Also, KrazeKode still really needs a good editor and proof reader. Several of the names were misspelled and pronouns were incorrect and all sorts of grammar and spelling. The story is sound, but the mistakes are obvious. There are even tense problems at time. It needs a better copy editor.
Anyway, the story is still pretty good. I enjoyed life in Taizhou. Day to day life is pretty good. Still, as I said things move fast here in this story. I really like Zhang's character. I love the science references in this story. It really is fun. Gravity is a big on in this story and it makes for some pretty cool new paths and powers.
I am still entertained by this story and I will read on with Volume 3 in the future.
I felt like this book moved extremely fast. There was very little down time and even less character development, something I enjoyed greatly in the first book. The side characters really take a back seat in this one in favor of progressing the main character down his cultivation path. This basically turns the book into a city builder for the majority of it. It never gets into the depth that the city builders do but he is essentially doing that. No real science is done in this book though he does make new things towards the end. No romance is seen in this book and like I already stated the side characters really have a back seat in this one. There are still side character chapters but it felt like there was a lot less than the first book. That may be because this book is shorter.
It actually took me awhile to acclimatize to all the names and remember who everybody was and where they all fit into Krazekode's storyline. This book is how 🤔 I believe a cultivation novel should be written. Not like Enigma Daoist recent novel. Even Will Wight understands cultivation better than ED in his fantasy series Cradle. (Sorry I went off on my own tangent.) Anyway Lu Jie the main character discovers that he not only has'ta confront and fight people that don't want to accept the changes he's tying to implement but he needs to control the spirit tree growing within him. And Pavi Proczko, wow he's outdone himself this time, leveling up!
3.75 sort-of-cultivation stars. I feel this is wandering out of the wuxia realm to the xianxia realm. People are getting godly in here! It's fun, but not as complex (or long?) as the first volume. Needs a good editor to pin it down and make it sing properly - beware the occasional entirely wrong word! But it's fun. I wanted to go straight on to the 3rd volume, but I will have to wait like everyone else. :)
The second book was just as good as the first, it opened up a lot more about the world and the different parties that are involved. The magic system is also growing even more in this book and we need more context moving forward, like why he can get power from others in his "area" and how all the internal systems work. He also is now an elder and we have been introduced to the demon parties that are part of this world and working at odds from the MC.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The MC is now on his own and tasked with getting mortals to make alchemy. He succeeds but the past isn’t easily escaped and comes back to bite him. He frees his village from the Heavens, but must face off against an Elder of the Sect. He gets possessed and realizes the Second Law. He comes back to normal, frees the whole mountain from the Heavens and starts a new Sect.
A good fast paced read with an interesting world. I look forward to the next one. Please enjoy
Books two of Lu Jie’s journey and I’m loving it!! The funny banter between the characters and pop culture references are top notch. The progression of cultivation power is tempered and logical🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
Really liking the story so far, on to the final book
A fun but naive story, held back by poor editing. The author should focus on cleaning up their writing. It reads like a first or second draft in its current state.
Story-wise, the second book ventures away from the scientist role of the first one and switches into a more… “Naruto”… approach. It’s not necessarily bad, but it is jarring at first.
There was nothing wrong with the story per ce, but I just stopped caring about the characters and the story through the plot. It just lost that spark of wonder and innovation from the first book. The dialogue was serviceable but very repetitive, the drama with the shadow too shallow and the noble intrigue with the governor and the sect non-existent.
I stopped listening for an entire month and then I realized I was dreading having to continue with the book, so I decided that I will not force myself. If reading for leisure becomes a shore, its not worth my time and effort.
