Rate this book
Duty and honor-bound, Yoshi draws on years of training to fulfill his clan’s expectations and obligations, suppressing emotions to safeguard and protect both himself and those he’s sworn to serve.
His current assignment is to the Shuhan of Mochizuki who deems that training unsuitable and launches Yoshi into the world of women, of the fabled Geisha, to learn the grace and skills his master desires. Pain Yoshi understood, humiliation was something else entirely.
And his keeper, Zenshiro, decides that while Geisha training is all well and good, the matter of seduction would be handled in a different fashion.
Keeping up the masquerade might be the biggest challenge Yoshi has ever faced…

Geisha is the short prequel to Sessha Batto’s Shadow Wolf…and I have now delved into the world of homoeroticism and eastern mind-set. And loved it! Sessha Batto writes with a calmness that races the heart and tells a story with such clean detail one cannot but follow onward. The dialogue is excellent, the setting spot on, the twist in the tale absolute brilliance. Right now I’m hoping the guard gets his comeuppance and I’m hoping Yoshi ends up with the one he fantasises about. Which means I’m dying to read Shadow Wolf, and you will too, this I guarantee!

A remarkable read. 5 stars well deserved!

So, that blurb doesn’t say anything about this short story lol.

Yoshi has been bought/assigned to the Shuhan of Mochizuki, a man 50 years his senior, and an implied sadist. Having Yoshi wasn’t enough, he wanted to humiliate him and sent him to a geisha school to learn “entertainment/socializing” skills. And then he sent Zenshiro to be his guard and teach him other skills. Zenshiro calls it seduction, I call it rape cosplaying BDSM play.

This is a prequel to Yoshi’s story but it only hints at his real skills as a ninja and an assassin. Basically this is several rape scenes dipped into a tiny bit of plot sauce. Kinktomato, yes, I say nope.

Entertaining, fast read, but really not much to it, characters felt rather cardboard-y and one-dimensional, though it sort of made me curious for the rest of the series.

Once again, Batto used great desciption in writing of the setting and scenes.
Yoshi's pain and the humiliation that he had to endure were difficult to read at times. I could feel his yearning for another that was out of his reach.
When Yoshi was finally pushed to his limits with Zenshiro and decided to fight back, I was silently cheering for him. Unfortunately, his triumph was short-lived. Later, when they were able to connect and see eye-to-eye, a knowledge was gained as well the understanding of a painful reality.
When Yoshi got the message on the night of his performance, there was a change in him and things got very interesting after that.
At the end, when he had a chance meeting with his secret desire, I was eager to know more about what would happen if their paths crossed again.
This book went along well with Shinobi and helped to paint more of a picture of Yoshi's past.
