The spiritual and wordly life of a Muslim is focused on Allah. Success in both entails knowing Allah, loving Him, trusting Him and worshipping Him alone. It requires the Muslim to learn his religion, discipline his soul and refine his conduct. The Muslim must have firm faith that everything that happens to him in this life is good for him, that his Lord would never decree anything that would be detrimental and, as such, he is required to be patient and steadfast in the face of adversity and grateful at times of ease.

In this treatise, the author, ibn Rajab sets out to explain the advice the Prophet ﷺ imparted to ibn Abbas, 'Safeguard Allah and He will safeguard you. Safeguard Allah and you will find Him in front of you. Know Allah in times of ease and He will know you in times of hardship. When you ask, ask Allah. When you seek aid, turn to Allah. The Pen has dried (after having written) all that will occur...'

It would not be an exaggeration to say that if a Muslim was to understand this hadith and follow it closely, he would be well on his way to fulfilling the goals highlighted above. It is for this reason that ibn al-Jawzi said, 'I pondered this hadith and it struck me with awe; I was so astounded that I almost became light headed... The prevailing ignorance of this hadith and the lack of understanding thereof is truly distressing!'.

'Abdu'l-Qadir al-Jilani said, 'Every believer should make this hadith a mirror to his heart, his axiom, his shelter and his topic of conversation. He should act by it in all times of motion and stillness so that he can be saved in this world and in the Hereafter.'

Imam ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (d.795H) was a scholar praised extensively for his vast knowledge, ascetism and expertise in the Hanbali school of thought as well as in hadith and its related sciences. His writings, gatherings and sermons were full of blessings and he was loved by all. He has written numerous monographs explaining individual hadiths of which this one, a series of which is currently being published by Daar us-Sunnah Publishers.

The translator has added appendices which comprise further explanations to the hadith by Mulla Ali al-Qari, ibn 'Allan, and ibn 'Uthaymeen.

ابن رجب الحنبلي (736- 795 هـ) هو الإمام الحافظ العلَّامة زين الدين عبد الرحمن بن أحمد بن عبد الرحمن بن الحسن بن محمد بن أبي البركات مسعود السلامي البغدادي الدمشقي الحنبلي، أبو الفرج الشهير بابن رجب، عالم دين مسلم، ومحدِّث وفقيه حنبلي. اشتهر بشرحه على الأربعون النووية وكان أيضًا المؤلف لكتاب «فتح الباري».

وُلد ابن رجب في بغداد، سنة 736هـ، لأسرة علمية عريقة في العلم والإمامة في الدين.

ثم قدِمَ إلى دمشق وهو صغير سنة 744هـ، وأجازه ابن النقيب، وسمع بمكة على الفخر عثمان بن يوسف، واشتغل بسماع الحديث باعتناء والده. وحدَّث عن محمد بن الخبَّاز، وإبراهيم ابن داود العطَّار، وأبي الحرم محمد بن القلانسي.

وسمع بمصر من صدر الدين أبي الفتح الميدومي، ومن جماعة من أصحاب ابن البُخاري. فأُتيح له تحصيل العلم على أكابر علماء عصره، ونبغ فيه وعلا شأنه في علم الحديث، وبلغ درجة الإمامة في فنونه، بل في أعمقها وأجلِّها، وهو علم الإسناد وعلم العلل، حتى قصده طلَّاب العلم.

وأما في الفقه فقد برع فيه حتى صار من أعلام المذهب الحنبلي، ويشهد على ذلك كتابه (القواعد الفقهية).

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Safeguard Allāh and He will safeguard you. Safeguard Allāh and you will find Him in front of you. Know Allāh in times of ease and He will know you in times of hardship. When you ask, ask Allāh. When you seek aid, turn to Allāh. The Pen has dried (after having written) all that will occur. If the whole of creation, in its entirely, was to try and effectuate some benefit for you through something that Allāh has not ordained, they would not be able to do so; and if they wished to harm you through something that Allāh has not decreed, they would not be able to do so. Know that great good lies in bearing with patience what you dislike, that victory comes with patience, that relief comes with distress, and that with hardship comes ease."

the whole book is concerned about this one hadīth, said to be the legacy of the Prophet ‎ﷺ, containing 12 chapters of detailed explanations and examples on each phrase within this narration.

the commentary is absolutely beautiful and im so grateful i read this book at this specific time, it brought me so much reassurance, solace, hope and consolation <3

একটি হাদীস ঘিরে জীবন যাপনে প্রয়োজনীয় সব নসীহার সমন্বয় এই বই।
সাহাবী আব্দুল্লাহ ইবনে আব্বাসকে দেয়া রাসূল (সাঃ) এর উপদেশ যা একজন মুমিনের জন্যে সেরা পাথেয় হিসেবে কাজ করবে। শেখাবে জীবনে গুরুত্বের শীর্ষে আল্লাহ তায়ালাকে স্থান দিলে জীবন কীভাবে সহজ হয়ে যায়, শেখাবে জীবনের কঠিন সব পরীক্ষায় দৃঢ়পদ থাকার উপায়, কিসে তাওয়াক্কুল পূর্ণতা পায়, ঈমানের হেফাজত কীভাবে বান্দাকে আল্লাহর নিকটে নিয়ে যায়।
বইটির বিষয়বস্তু সমন্বয় অসাধারণ হয়েছে। হাদীসে বর্ণিত প্রতিটি নসীহাকে আলাদা অধ্যায়ে বিন্যস্ত করে সেগুলোর সুচিন্তিত সুগভীর বিশ্লেষণ পাঠক হৃদয়কে আপ্লুপ্ত করবেই। আর ইবনুল কায়্যিম, মোল্লা আলী কারি, ইবনু আল্লান, ইবনু ইযয, ইবনু উসাইমিন প্রমুখের ব্যাক্ষ্যা তো পাঠকদের জন্যে অসাধারণ উপহার।

A great book to read on the explanation of the ḥadīth of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). What's interesting is that the book also includes short excerpts from commentaries from a few other scholars including Ibn 'Uthaimeen (may Allah have mercy on him). The explanation of the different parts of the ḥadīth are expounded upon utilizing ayaat of Qur'an, other Aḥadīth, sayings of the Aslaf and poetry and stories of the people of the past.

One of the plus points is that everything is carefully referenced to their original sources and so if in doubt one may check the original book from where the author utilized the material.

I strongly suggest anyone even remotely interested in hadith to definitely read this book.

একদিন প্রিয় নবীজি ﷺ আব্দুল্লাহ ইবনে আব্বাসকে (রাঃ) বললেন, ‘শোনো হে বালক!
আল্লাহকে হেফাজত করো, তিনি তোমাকে হেফাজত করবেন। আল্লাহকে হেফাজত করো, তাহলে তাঁকে তুমি তোমার সামনে পাবে। স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যের সময়ে আল্লাহকে জেনো, তাহলে তোমার বিপদের সময় তিনি তোমাকে জানবেন। যখন কিছু চাইবে, আল্লাহর কাছেই চাইবে। যখন সাহায্য চাইবে, আল্লাহর দিকেই ফিরবে। যা যা ঘটবে, (তা লিখার পর) কলম শুকিয়ে গেছে। সমগ্র সৃষ্টিজগৎ একত্রিত হয়ে যদি তোমার এমন কোনো উপকার করতে চায়, যা আল্লাহ নির্ধারিত করে রাখেননি; তাহলেও তারা তা করতে সমর্থ হবে না। আর তারা যদি তোমার এমন কোনো ক্ষতি করতে চায়, যা আল্লাহ নির্ধারিত করে রাখেননি; তাহলেও তারা তা করতে সমর্থ হবে না। জেনে রেখো, তুমি যা অপছন্দ করো তা ধৈর্যের মাধ্যমে সহ্য করার মধ্যে রয়েছে মহাকল্যাণ। বিজয় আসে ধৈর্যের মাধ্যমে; কষ্টের সাথেই আসে স্বস্তি; আর কাঠিন্যের সাথে আসে সহজতা।”

'নবীজীর পদাঙ্ক অনুসরণ' বইটার বেশ ভালো কিছু রিভিউ দেখেই বইটা পড়ার বেশ আগ্রহ হয়েছিলো। পড়ার পর বুঝতে পারলাম আসলেই অসাধারণ একটা বই। একটামাত্র হাদিসে এত চমৎকার দিকনির্দেশনার উপাদান আছে এই বইটা না পড়লে বোঝা সম্ভব হত না। হাদিসটি পড়লে সাধারণভাবে মনে হতে পারে সামান্য কিছু উপদেশমালা। কিন্তু এই কথাগুলোর ব্যাপ্তি যে কতখানি আর এই সামান্য কটা কথাতেই যে কি প্রজ্ঞা এবং জীবন চলার পাথেয় লুকিয়ে আছে তা জানলে আপনি সত্যিকার অর্থেই বিস্মিত হবেন।

হানাস আস-সান'আনির সূত্রে ইমাম আহমাদ হাদিস বর্ণনা করেন যে, ইবনু আব্বাস রদিয়াল্লাহু আনহু বলেন,

"আমি নবীজি সাল্লালাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম-এর পেছনে বসা অবস্থায় তিনি বললেন, 'হে বালক, তোমাকে এমন কিছু কথা শিখিয়ে দিই, যার মাধ্যমে আল্লাহ তোমার উপকার সাধন করবেন।?' আমি বললাম, 'অবশ্যই।' তিনি সাল্লালাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম বললেন, 'আল্লাহকে হেফাজত করো তিনি তোমাকে হেফাজত করবেন।.........."

-আহমাদ-২৮০৩, সহীহ। এছাড়াও হাদিসটি আরো অন্যান্য হাদিসের কিতাবে বিভিন্ন সূত্রের মাধ্যমে লিপিবদ্ধ হয়েছে।

" তোমাকে এমন কিছু কথা শিখিয়ে দিই, যার মাধ্যমে আল্লাহ তোমার উপকার সাধন করবেন?" এতটুকু কথাই হাদিসটির গুরুত্ব বোঝাতে ও একজন মুসলমানের মনে এর প্রতি আগ্রহ সৃষ্টি করতে যথেষ্ট ইন শা আল্লাহ। আমাদের আলোচ্য কিতাবটি এই হাদিসেরই ব্যাখ্যা গ্রন্থ। চমৎকার এই হাদিসে দুনিয়া ও আখিরাতে সফলতা ও আল্লাহর সন্তুষ্টি অর্জনের উপায় বাতলে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

বইটি ঈমাম মোট বারোটি অধ্যায়ে বিভক্ত করেছেন। উল্লেখিত হাদিস থেকে নেয়া বারোটি উপদেশ দিয়েই সাজানো এই অধ্যায়গুলো। অধ্যায়গুলো ঠিক এরকম, ১)আল্লাহকে হেফাজত করা, ২) আল্লাহ তোমার হেফাজত করবেন, ৩) আল্লাহ তোমার সাথে আছেন, ৪) আল্লাহকে জানা, ৫) আল্লাহর কাছে চাওয়া, ৬)আল্লাহর কাছে সাহায্য চাওয়া...ইত্যাদি।

প্রতিটি অধ্যায় যেনো এক একটি রত্নভান্ডার। প্রত্যেকটি উপদেশ বা বিষয়গুলো অত্যন্ত সহজ-সরল ও সুন্দরভাবে ব্যাখ্যা-বিশ্লেষণ করা হয়েছে। উপদেশগুলো আপনাকে জীবনের সকল পরিস্থিতিতে আপনার চিন্তা-চেতনা ও কাজ-কর্মকে সঠিক দিকে পরিচালিত করতে সক্ষম প্রমাণিত হবে ইন শা আল্লাহ। সব বিষয়ে আল্লাহর উপর ভরসা করা, শুধু আল্লাহর কাছেই চাওয়া, আল্লাহর নির্ধারিত নিয়মকানুন মেনে চলা,তাকদিরের উপর বিশ্বাসের ফলে নিশ্চিন্ত হয়ে যাওয়া এগুলোই মূলত এই বইয়ের মূল বিষয়সমূহ।

বইয়ের শেষে পরিশিষ্ট আরো ছয়টি অধ্যায় যোগ করা হয়েছে। যেখানে একটি অধ্যায়ে আলোচিত হাদিসটির আরো অন্যান্য উৎস ও সেগুলো যেভাবে বর্ণিত হয়েছে ঠিক সেভাবে লিপিবদ্ধ করা হয়েছে। আরো তিনটি অধ্যায়ে তিনজন সালাফের উক্ত হাদিস নিয়ে তিনটি ভিন্ন ব্যাখ্যা লিপিবদ্ধ করা হয়েছে। আরেকটি অধ্যায়ে বিপদ-আপদ নিয়ে আল-ইযয ইবনু আব্দুস সালাম রাহিমাহুল্লাহর সুন্দর একটি আলোচনা এসেছে। কিন্তু আমার কাছে সবচেয়ে সেরা মনে হয়েছে ইবনুল কায়্যিম রাহিমাহুল্লাহর ধৈর্য্য নিয়ে লিখা অধ্যায়টি। এই অধ্যায়টি এক ভিন্ন রকমের প্রেরণা জাগিয়ে তোলে নিজের মধ্যে।

সারকথা, বইটির শিক্ষা জীবনে নববী আদর্শে চলার পাথেয় হিসেবে কাজ করবে ইন শা আল্লাহ। যদি এর উপদেশগুলো তার সঠিক শিক্ষা অনুযায়ী হৃদয়ঙ্গম করা যায় ও সে অনুযায়ী আমল করা যায় ইন শা আল্লাহ। আমি আলহামদুলিল্লাহ অনেক উপকৃত হয়েছি বইটি পড়ে। দুয়া রইলো তাই বইয়ের সাথে সংশ্লিষ্ট সকলের জন্যে। সুন্দর ও সুখপাঠ্য অনুবাদ ও প্রাসঙ্গিক এবং উপকারী টীকা সংযোজন করার জন্য বিশেষ প্রশংসা সিরাত পাবলিকেশনের জন্য।

সবকিছুর পরেও দু'টি নেতিবাচক কথা না বললেই নয়। প্রথমত বইটিতে প্রচুর যইফ হাদিস ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। দ্বিতীয়ত একই রকম কথার পুনরাবৃত্তি হয়েছে কয়েকবার যেটা অনেকের কাছে একঘেঁয়ে মনে হতে পারে।

সবশেষে হাদিসটি নিয়ে আল্লামা আব্দুল কাদির রাহিমাহুল্লাহর উক্তিটি দিয়ে শেষ করছি যাতে বইটি পড়া নিয়ে কারো মনে সংকোচ না থাকে ইন শা আল্লাহ।

"প্রতিটি মুমিনের উচিত এ হাদীসকে তার অন্তরের আয়নায় পরিনত করা, একে স্বতঃসিদ্ধ সত্য বলে জানা, একে বিপদের আশ্রয় ও আলোচনার বস্তু বানানো। স্থিতি ও গতির সকল অবস্থায় তার উচিত এই হাদীসের উপর আমল করা, তাহলেই সে আল্লাহ তা'আলার রহমতে দুনিয়ায় রক্ষা পাবে আর আখিরাতে সম্মানিত হবে।"

সকল প্রশংসা এই বিশ্বজাহানের একক স্রষ্টা ও প্রতিপালক আল্লাহর।

This book has a great atmosphere which boosts hope and faith in the believers heart. It uses quran verses, other hadiths and poems. It’s passionately written and has rhetorical questions to encourage the reader to reflect. After the treatise there are appendices of hadith sourcing, ibn al-qayyim on patience, the benefits of tribulation by al-‘izz ibn ‘Abdu’l-Salam and commentaries on the hadith by ‘Ali al-Qari, ibn ‘Allan and ibn ‘Uthaymin. These appendices make it more comprehensive.

I learned a lot from this book and I would recommend it to anyone.

“Despair is the partner of inability and inadequacy whereas patience is the partner of intelligence and sagacity. Were despair to be asked ‘Who is your father?’ it would reply, ‘Inability’; and were patience to be asked, ‘Who is your father?’ it would reply, ‘Sagacity.’”

1. Too much repeatation of same context
2. Quotation of excess poems
3. Detailed explanation of reference disturbed the flow of reading
4. Weak hadiths spoiled the mood in a few occasions

Otherwise the book benefited me and taught many things Alhamdulillah.

What a beautiful beautiful book. This was exactly what I needed to read this Ramadan given personal circumstances and of course the g*nocide happening in Palestine. Truly, Allaah is with the patient ones.
