A kindly old lady is conned out of her beautiful old home and the mythical creatures living in her garden are under threat from the new inhabitants - can they help bring her back and right the wrongs that have been done?
I came across this book at a local second hand book shop and it was only when I decided to read it I realise the author is THE Mike Jupp aka the famous illustrator of the British seaside who's work is on a great many puzzles. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike last year and he's a lovely, friendly guy with a good sense of humor, but I had no idea he'd written any books.
Very much a comedy book, it does have strong moral themes running through it and I liked how he illustrated that seemingly nice people can be con artists, as well as the classic good trimuphing over evil ideals.
You can tell from the way it's written that the author hasn't written a great many books - it's certainly not badly written, but 'feels' like an early work and I imagine Mike would make an excellent author with more experience. The slight lack of sophistication (for want of a better word) doesn't really setract from any enjoyment so I've only knocked off one star.
Certainly worth a read but hard to find as it was published over a decade ago, but a small company and doesn't seem to have had a large print run.
