I Teach How to Cook (but not what to cook): A story of John Godolphin Bennett

‘We all agree that this world is in trouble. Many feel that events are totally out of control and that our leaders can do no more than paper the cracks while the edifice of human society on this earth is falling apart … For the first time since the end of the last Ice Age, the present human race is in real danger of extinction. There is a maximum imbalance between man’s outward powers and his inward weakness.’ So began the last book written, almost fifty years ago, by the philosopher and spiritual teacher John G. Bennett. At the time of writing it he was conducting year-long courses for a hundred students at a time, to give them spiritual and practical techniques to help them deal with a future that looked increasingly hazardous. Bennett’s description of the world at that time is even more applicable to the situation we see today.

Ben Bennett “This book is to be considered as a series of footnotes to my father’s autobiographical accounts, and not a retelling of his story. My sources are primarily his own published writing, in addition to which I draw on private letters, notebooks, conversations and personal observations made during the twenty-two years that I knew him.

Ben Bennett's memoir of his father is not the best place to start. It is essential if you are interested in Bennett, but is mostly a commentary on and amplification of Witness, with a lot of Ben Bennett's recollections and material from unpublished letters and journals. There is also background on a lot of JGB's other books.
