Ok.. so started out interesting. Something new, yay, Something different, yay. Then... no follow through with this promising new lead! We don't see or learn a lot about Parker growing into his powers at the end. Its just left kind of open ended feeling.

Then with Panahasi's incidents (though I still didn't read where anything happened yet.. that's hopefully next in Ceri) I don't know.. I know that the series are getting a lot closer intertwined but I kind of felt this took away from the little we had about Parker and Rayne.

Basically this book didn't finish delivering for me..

If I give this four stars (and I am not certain I will stick with that decision in the long run), then it’s largely in context of the entire collection of series, i.e. in contrast to the bulk of the books. Just so we’re clear, because this instalment has a few serious flaws.

Right away I loved the beginning. That’s not the first time I genuinely enjoyed an accident-shock-injury scene by this author. Surprisingly good stuff.

Then the next shock. We get more or less reasonable and intelligent protagonists! What weird alternate universe is this?
Well, okay, this impression changes slightly after a little while. First with Rayne overreacting, later with Parker not thinking things through. But still; I can get behind how both of those guys work things out for themselves. (To the extent that they do. This is a very simple story.) Finally, Rayne seems oddly disinclined to believe in magic, given that he’s a shifter and has been aware of that all his life. Hm.

As soon as the age of Parker’s grandmother was mentioned I had to pause for a second, putting that into context with the series’ history and ready to be critical about it. But

In any event, to my delight this book was significantly better written (or edited?) than these have been for a while.
Of course this story could (or should) have been longer. The plot jumped some parts. (Most notably how they slip into full relationship status. That’s underdeveloped.) On the other hand this helped to avoid the repetitiveness that so often plagues this type of book.

The connecting back-story is not as overpowering as in some of the other volumes, except for at the end, when the main plot is resolved only romantically - before things switch over to all the connecting strands. Whereupon a major change happens and for once something that has been torturing some people for a long time ends happily.

All in all, I am happy with this one.
Sure, it needed more of actual story, but it’d been so long since one of these books did not annoy me that I just feel supremely grateful.
So, still under the assumption I won’t shave off that fourth star, please regard the rating as a tribute to that. Taken out of context the book would be three stars for me. (Which is still cool.)

Parker and Rayne. What can I say about this one? Well...

Rayne, for some reason he wasn't a very strong character for me. I liked Parker's fiesty attitude, but I wanted more of that from Rayne and a little less growling and teeth baring.

I LOVED Nanna :) How cute was she. But, their story. EEK!!!

NEED ANOTHER BOOK, NOW!!!!!!!

I'm giving this one 3 stars because I'm pretty sure this needed to be read as part of the series. I haven't read any of the series and didn't get what was going on in this one at all. I didn't feel any attraction between these MCs and the storyline left me cold. As a standalone, this would have been a 1 or 2 star book for me.

Parker is a mage (who hates being so) who gets into a car accident when soon after, one of the firemen, Rayne, realizes that Parker is his mate. I enjoyed the story, however, I would have liked it so much better had the two main characters mated in the beginning instead of at the end of everything. There's just something about a mated couple dealing with their issues together outside of themselves while becoming stronger as a pair, without the unnecessary, petty, angst that's usually slapped in between mates in every book, that makes everything that much more enjoyable to me. I did appreciate the humor (always love that with this author) and Parker's very caring family, especially his Nana. It was also refreshing to finally read about a family who doesn't ridicule the person in the home for his sexual orientation. The plot was captivating, and the ending with Panahasi and his sons was fantastic. Totally warmed my heart.

Parker saying "I love you" to Rayne, seemed a little early.

I can't wait until all the elements of the arc are completed.
It was good seeing Panahasi back.

Not my favorite

Okay I have plenty of problems with this book.... Don't get me wrong I love this also stories I love this whole universe she has created... But the problems I have with this book was Parker was annoying I didn't understand why he didn't except that he was a mage.... Even after everything he went through he steel wasn't excepting.... I also didn't understand why they didn't go immediately to Maverick or the other leaders to explain what was going on with Marino that should've been the first thing that came out of their mouth when Ahm came to take them to the Lakeland ranch... Sometimes I think this author has written so many books in this universe she can't keep stuff straight.... But I'm still a fan of the series and will continue to read but this was just not my favorite.... The only reason why I gave it three stars is because of the ending ....

I'm really not satisfied with how the MC's story ended. Parker and Rayne go through a lot in their relationship as well as outside forces but their story ended abruptly and incompletely. We are really mid story and then its over. Then we switch to the Panahasi story that had been in the bkg of the last Fewbooks. We learned a lot about Panahasi and his history and it looks like that is coming to a close. But I don't understand why Rayne and Parkers story could not be completed before we moved on. Their relationship wasn't even solidified! I'm just confused what the vision was for this book. ..

This one could have been better. With the history of Mage we didn't really get into any of that or at all with the mage part. But opportunity missed there. imo.
And I'm sooo SICK of Marino Malone. He has been going for how long now? how many bks in how many series? and none of these so called badass leaders can find him... really.
This author writes up the leaders as so powerful, don't anyone mess with them but then why can't they take out this one guy?????? Doesn't seem so bag and badass to me.
She dragging this character out too long. imo

I keep reading this series mostly so I know what's happening in the overall series and each of the individual stories have been okay, but this one was actually really good. The characters had a really cute/different relationship (especially in the beginning) and the secondary characters were really funny at times too. Plus, the additions to the series that we discovered in this one were really great as well and anyone who follows the overall arc will want to know what happened in this one.

It seems Lynn has decided to write serial style and leave huge gaps in the plot. For instance, there is no claiming scene but a comment near the end indicates it has happened. The story leaves you hanging in the end with nothing resolved just lots of new teasers and backstory info.
The book also linked heavily with Ceri's story.

Confusing

First thing....I never quite knew who was doing the talking or thinking. The POV switched so quickly and so often that I had trouble following. At least Parker wasn't the female in a male body that most of the other mates tend to be, but I would still like to see a masculine mate like George from the original Brac Pack series.

YES! Panahasi is back :) I do wonder though if his mates know he is alive again, that would be an interesting reunion to see.
Also good to know jaden isn't all that bad, though now I think he needs a story of his own to show his side of things.
Looking forward to more books int his world

Rayne and Parker's book

This book started off with a bang and kept on going until the end. A lot of questions are answered from previous books and the ending (spoiler alert) is a cliff hanger. I hate cliff hangers!
