MERMAID ADULT FANTASY

Down on South Beach, Marissa's worked her tail off...well, not literally. She arrives at work shocked to learn she's lead broker for Wyatt Herndon. She takes her boss's advice--don't screw this up--to heart.

Her gorgeous client demands she attend to all his needs. In less than convention terms, she agrees to be on Wyatt's beck and call non-stop for two days. There might be a problem. Marissa is a mermaid and tonight is the full moon, which means she must return to the ocean for her midnight swim.

It's also Valentine's Day and this one night is known as the Hunger Moon. A time for mating, and Marissa finds she's unstoppably mesmerized by Wyatt. She craves to feel his body do things she's never experienced. Not once.

Wyatt's more than captivated by his broker with her sexy as hell body and inflexible business morals. So much, he's willing to throw away his whole land deal. Now, there's only one thing on his mind, possessing Marissa completely.

Sparks fly over dinner and as their physical chemistry flares, Marissa and Wyatt can't keep their hands off each other. During a night of mind blowing sex, they are put on a collision course with destiny.

Wyatt's convinced he's found the perfect woman until she disappears. Then over the next 24-hours he uncovers her secrets and must decide if he's in too deep to turn away from love.

So this is shelved on my "crazy covers" shelf because it looks like it belongs on a 50 Shades of Grey knock-off. Corporate smexy times. Not quite giving off the "mermaid" vibe, you know?

Anyway, it was a cute little short story but there's very little explanation about the mermaid stuff. Or who tried to kill the MC. Or anything, really. I'd say this is a shallow read, a little too long for a bubble bath read, but maybe a breezy afternoon in a hammock read.

HATE.

Really, alas....

In principle I should be contend with this story, in love with it actually as it has everything I love about mermaidstories: there is a beautiful mermaid with ability to grow legs (in fact living mainly on land) and there is sex. In fact I should jump with joy because of this pairing, especially given the fact that the author provided this book free.....

But no...

The problem with this story can summarized briefly: "submissive fairytale". I know of course that there is whole sub-genre of such stories and a whole target group consisting mainly of some ladies...Unfortunataly for this book I'm not a lady, especially not that kind - and while my fantasies are no less pervert than those of the mentioned target group, they are different....And I believe that, should the story be written less the way it was written, it would reach broader group of readers and earned better rating......

So, why I hate "Ocean of love" ?

First of all, there is Marissa. Though, she is described as somehow independent, pursuing her own career and so on, this dimension of hers is intentionally and systematically neglected. Almost from the start Mariissa fall's for Wyatt, but this is explained as being (at least partially) driven by mermaid Estrous cycle. From the start then, it is hinted then Marissa's desire is ultimately simply experiencing an animal lust. This wouldn't be that bad if it weren't for the assymetry: Wyatt also display's carnal desire but he instantly (and fully intentionally) starts playing assshole/predator/dominator role with little or no opposition from Marissa. The mermaid on the other hand does NOT want to involve herself in sex - much less in relationship. She is aware that this is a lust and does not want to submit to it. It is only her aforementioned physiology that forces her to have a sex with Wyatt. But there is more. Not only is the Marissa deprived of free will - the story makes her also helpless with respect to her native enviroment - water, ocean.

So not only she is too weak to control herself , she even cannot take after herself in the water as a mermaid. And what is more this is confirmed (and accepted by her) by Wyatt forcing her to promise her not to swim too far from shore without his being present. Since when, the fuck, the cretures of the sea need human assistance in swimming?

The story of Marissa is ,then, a sad tale about a lady who loses control over her physiology and then her freedom and her free life, ultimately becoming sort of sex-slave (or rather: sex-breeder-slave) tied for the rest of her life to the human rubbish. Though this is all sweeted by the concluding remarks about "soul-mating" and other bullshi...stupidities, no sane reader can escape conclusion that Marissa lost her freedom.

This enrages me totally, because I consider mermaid as a symbol of, among other things, a freedom. They are meant to be free creatures. I suspect that even old folktales (some of them at least) considered mermaids as someone whose love has to be EARNED, as they are free to refuse it if they want.

Then, because the author spoiled in her story what was most beautiful in mermaid symbolism I'm NOT gonna to be merciful (even though my own literary taste is rather unsophisticated, and ,because of that, I tend to be tolerant towards the others). The author showed some literary skills by building erotic tension throughout the whole story, but this does not redeem her from the sin of enslawing sexy and smart mermaid and woman. Not liked, not like, not gonnna like.

So... I guess I didn't read the whole synopsis of this book or if I did I didn't take the word Mermaid seriously. But the main heroine is definitely a mermaid living on land. It was a great story. It was entertaining and a quick read. It was also a light read - it didn't hurt my heart every time I flipped the page, which was good because I didn't want a heavy reading.

The reason for my four stars then? Well, it kind of reminded me about a movie... you know the one with Tom Hanks? I think its called Splash. Yeah, it reminded me of that movie - except there wasn't a time constraint on the girl for living on land. And I guess it wasn't super similar to the movie when you think about it but for some reason I kept envisioning that movie with every word I read and it pulled me out of the novel just a little bit.

But all in all this was a great read. The characters were enjoyable and the plot was enjoyable. Give it a chance and read it. And to add to it, there was just enough steam to make my dreams of mermaids as a child become my dreams of mermaids and sexy men now as an adult.

I have to admit that during the first few pages I was a bit confused with the "realtor" talk, but then Marissa and Wyatt met and I became swept away by the tide of lust and romance that built between them. It was like riding the waves with the characters: one moment they were pulling back from each other, trying to fight the inevitable feelings they had and the next they were moving forward (and into each other)giving in to their passion in little bits and pieces that kept me wanting more and more.

A kiss here, a touch there, lust mingled with raw emotions that made my heart constrict and a sweet undercurrent that made the story not only sensual but heartwarming as well. "Oceans of Love" was a well worth read.

This was a quick read. The story was okay, but for me the pace was a bit off- it progressed way to fast. I wanted Wyatt and Marissa to spend more time together. I also wanted to know more about mermaids. It was great that Wyatt didn't care about her true form; however, I would have expected him to be a little more shocked! I really liked the interaction between the characters and I loved how Wyatt made Marissa feel her first time.

This was actually a really good book. It did a good job of building up the characters. There was enough detail to where you felt like you knew them. The ending was good, but a little short. It left me wanting more. But overall, a definite read.

I don't like supernatural romances and had no idea this would be one. The book was quite ok but the ending was a bit rushed.
I would have liked to know a bit more about their life after the first night before skipping to "one year from now".

I liked the story but thought it lacked much excitement or adventure. Good short read.

Hmm. This is the first book I've read about mermaids. And definitely the first (and maybe last) erotica mermaid book. Not that anything super weird happened, but I kept thinking about if it did....*shudder*

I was pretty satisfied with Marissa's character. She's beautiful, but she doesn't let that carry her in life. She's driven and is hella good at what she does. The fact that Wyatt ends up loving her personality as much as her looks is just splendid - except I wouldn't say that Marissa is bubbling with personality throughout the book. She is more so just saying no....and I guess that turns Wyatt on?

The whole book kind of leads the reader on. So Marissa is a mermaid. Okay, cool. So when is she going to transform? When is this going to be exposed to the other characters? How will they react? I'm thinking this for like the whole book....and what a freakin' let down. First of all, how does Wyatt not notice that she's scaly from the waist down when he's got his hands/mouth/anatomy are all over that? Is the room THAT dark? I enjoyed the parts when it was hinted at - like she was luminescent and reflected the light. But apparently that couldn't have continues when they were making love. Harumph. So the love scene isn't the big reveal...okay. Well they're going to wake up and she'll be a mermaid, right? No. She wakes up and goes swimming. And then he finds her swimming gracefully? No. CAUTION: SPOILER I mean...come on...she got harpooned?! Not the reveal I expected. And the dolphin thing just freaked me out - but that must have something to do with this being my first mermaid book. I clearly know nothing about mermaid/dolphin communication.

And the love story seems to come out of nowhere - and WHAM! BAM! No thank you....really....an unnecessarily cheesy romance ensues. With all the cliche endings imaginable.

Overall the book is awfully scattered too. It seemed to jump quite a bit. We'd be in one place and then another. At lunch. On the sidewalk. On the beach. On the sidewalk. In the car. On the sidewalk. Maybe it was just me, but it seemed choppy and a few times I thought I'd skipped pages. But no, it's just scattered.

Now I didn't completely hate the book. It was a quick read. And before the loving got too cheesy, I enjoyed Wyatt's strong character. I just don't recommend this book to people like me who like a bit more intensity and less happy-go-lucky cliche endings with rainbows, sunshine, babies, and weddings.

Ocean of Love is a lovely modern day fairytale, for adults. It is a story of contrasts which is definitely part of its appeal. Like the ocean Marissa and Wyatt's love is a sometimes peaceful and enticing and other times dark and stormy.

Marissa works in real estate and outwardly appears to be a dedicated, career minded woman who has little time for love in her busy life. Determined to secure a once in a lifetime deal on a prime ocean front property, forces her up close and personal with Wyatt, whose sole aim is to acquire the property and move onto his next acquisition.

Sparks fly from their first meeting and Wyatt is determined to have Marissa even though she refuses to combine business with pleasure. Marissa calls to his inner soul. Naive Marissa is out of her depth as she struggles with her emotions where Wyatt is concerned. Then there's her secret how will Wyatt cope with that?

The imagery in this story is enchanting and the love scenes are sensually erotic.

The ending leaves the reader with a number of questions and I look forward to the next in the series 'Sweetest Curse'.

The perfect beach read.

sometimes you get what you pay for with free books lol. i dont think there was anything redeeming about this book.the plot wasnt the worst ive ever seen if you like mermaids but it wasnt anything to write home about either. the heroine is ok if a bit wimpy but the "hero" is an asshat from the getgo. hes decided to get marissa into bed after just seeing her picture and immediately starts calling her darling after meeting her which to me seems so patronizing. despite repeatedly saying she doesnt wanna sleep with him and risk her business relationship he keeps pushing and she throws respectability out the window on their first business dinner..ahem date. then theres the sex scenes:theyre great...if youve never had sex. if you have theyre unbearably corny and laughworthy ( not in the good way). then at some point in the first 48 hours of their meeting he decides shes the one except oh wait shes an injured mermaid. cut to one year later(abrupt right?) and turns out he accepted the fact that shes a MERMAID with no issues at all. no character or relationship development, very little in the way of decent plot. save the space on your device and your time and skip this one...unless you like something that reads like a script for the worst porno ever

I don’t know about this book…the first 2/3rds of it I didn’t care for but kept going anyways…really wanted to like it I guess! I did enjoyed the last 1/3rd of it when they finally “got” together and the whole mermaid thing came into play – which I was shocked that it was so breezed over. I would have loved for there to have been a LOT less of the realtor thing and a WHOLE LOT more of the mermaid stuff and how he dealt with it – does he go swimming with her, do they go out in a boat…just something more I guess. Oh and what was the thing she was stabbed with, a fishing spear, a trident from another Mermaid/Merman, and who was that creepy lady from the restaurant?!?!? All in all it was an ok read…I wouldn’t go back and read it again but I did like the ending. It was a freebie so...

This book was 65% real estate lingo that the average reader wouldn't understand, there was no point in it being in the story whatsoever. The first 65% was reading about a business deal basically. Around the 65% mark the two characters finally get together and everything is solved haphazardly in the last couple pages. Many things were left unanswered, if you want to read a real estate book, look no further. If you are looking for mermaids, just skip to the last chapter.

This was a super sexy stunning story. Is that enough S's for you? I enjoyed this book. I haven't read many good books with mermaids since The Little Mermaid. I enjoyed the way Wyatt and Marissa interact and are both stubborn. They were a wonderful combination in characters. This is a great short read for a sunny summer morning!!! Enjoy

Abrupt ending; big jump to a year later without in-depth explanation on how the hero accepted what she was. It was a short read that assisted with relaxation, not having to read a book over 300 pages.

It was okay. I liked the mermaid part of the book. Wished there had been more story to it though. I thought the dialogue needed a bit of work when it came to the male POV. I thought all time spent on the real estate lingo could have been put to better use.

Did not finish reading and do not want to. Owned a copy from amazon but deleted it. The writing was choppy and had me confused and I just don't want to deal with the jumpy-all-over-the-place-writing/story.

It's a bit slow in the beginning and ends rather abruptly which might be alright if this turns out to be series.

Decent enough story. I love water and the fascination of Mermaids. However, the editing was a little off. I found quite a few grammatical errors.
