When these three friends reconnect, Holly comes up with a plan, a plan that will change all their lives for the better. She knows that to start a fire, all it takes is a spark. However, as the sparks ignite and begin to burn, she realizes that she may have stood too close to the flame, and the torch she carries for Andrew burns brighter than ever.

Krista Lakes is a writer of romances that leave you feeling good and always have a happily ever after. She has two boys and a husband that keep her busy, not to mention two cats and a dog.
Very relatable story! Especially for a small town girl like me! This novel is full of small town imagery that kept me smiling.
This is a story of redemption, of second chances. Of first love, loosing that love and finding it again. But most importantly of all it shows the beauty of sex when it is an expression of love and respect for the other person rather than the damaging effects of sex for selfish gains!
Very unique and touching. An easy read and quite addicting!
I read a book by Krista that was tilted Burned. Even though this is a similar name it is the same description as the book I just read. Not sure why it different. This is a good read. The beginning of every chapter has me alittle confused. But towards the end you know what it's for.
First, I gotta ask: What's up with the italics at the start of every chapter? I kept hoping it was some sinister dark plot-twist, but I didn't quite get it.
Holly is home after discovering her college life was a tad-too-wild. Falling right back into her old group of friends, she comes up with a plan to help her friends achieve their dreams. What follows is a sweet romance.
The premise was good, and I absolutely adored how Holly slowly realized her crush for Andrew.
Their shenanigans were amazingly planned, and Krista Lakes definitely managed the mischief and feelings of being a new adult.
But then came the last half of the book.
I get that a friend's vow is important, but I couldn't get past the fact that Luke shunned his friends for being together. They're adults now. After rekindling his dad's high-school love, one would think he had more faith in romance. And it really bothered me because Luke was my favorite. The way he protected both Holly and his brother.
For some reason, we didn't see Holly hang out much with her best female friends.
And then Andrew goes all judgmental on her. Despite the fact that it wasn't Holly's fault. At all.
^I hope I didn't reveal anything. But to put it simply, the latter half of the book started to bug me.
I liked it, but I didn't love it. Would recommend for anyone who wants to hate character choices. =/
Well, I personally really enjoyed this book. I love the sweet teenage love stories. The pact made between friends is a nice touch. Obviously these are definitely set up to be broken! Holly, such a sweet girl with hidden ‘issues’ which she doesn’t want to share, and in all fairness we all have those, so you could definitely feel for her. Andrew, to me being the ‘typical male’ finds out half the story and throws a tantrum, refusing to listen. As the saying goes though, all’s well that ends well. Loved the addition of the parents getting involved. Old teenage sweethearts, married to different people who finally find their soul mate in the end. Loved this book and it certainly kept me reading till the end. Really liked the phrase at the end, ‘They say that fire always burns, but as the flames sweep away the detritus of the past, new beginnings can spring from the ashes. I smiled. I could feel the seeds of new memories germinating, reaching for the sun.’
Burned or Fire Always Burns is set in Colorado during a dry spring after a low snow cover. The title Burned fits how Holly feels when she returns home to the small town where she was raised after she made some major mistakes in college and was Burned by her boyfriend. She finds being home, getting a job checking groceries and hiding the truth about how bad she goofed up in college to be uncomfortable but with her group of supportive friends from high school, she is soon back feeling at home.
I loved how the author told about how the fire was started and slowly grew as background for the romance that developed between Andrew and Holly. I also liked that Andrew's mother Audrey found a second chance at love as a secondary love story. I was sorry to come to the end of Burned and look forward to reading more of Krista Lakes.
I don't even know what to think about this book. I get that it's YA, but was Holly 12 years old? Because I think that's how old the girls in The Parent Trap were. About 19% in ("hopped on the computer for research...Everything I found was either too complex or too reminiscent of The Parent Trap." I had no idea how to get these two people to fall in love..."). I can just picture this college-aged student Googling "how to make people fall in love." Holly's own relationship stuff wasn't as bad, but I was miffed their friends couldn't even be happy for them. It got better towards the end, but it was still so predictable and poorly carried out.
I was surprised when I finished this one. Surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it. I have read a lot of romance novels.. More than I care to admit. So I was expecting something cliche and predictable. While I did guess what would happen at the end, I still enjoyed reading it.
With some good things said, now time for the bad. A couple of characters annoyed me at times, and I thought somethings were made into a big deal when it wasn't something that they should have stressed over.
I don't know what else to say about it. It was good but not the best I have read.
Good stuff. Holly is back from college where she made some bad choices. Andrew is stuck in the small town caring for his widowed mother. Luke is dealing with his recently divorced father. Holly plots to get the parents together and along the way makes some sparks of her own with Andrew. The way the author includes the description of the fire was great. And the way the fire revealed a better and improved town -and relationship- was great. Great read
I Give this book 4.5 Stars the only reason I don't say a full 5 is there was some miscommunication somewhere and this story has TWO names which made it difficult for me to find on goodreads when the name of the book is BURNED on amazon. Miscommunication somewhere? Other then that this story was pretty good
Supposed to be a romance, but at 20% in, still nothing going on except for a lot of moping from some college age kids dealing with issues that people 10-20 years older then themselves normally deal with. So depressing and no love? Yeah, since I was just borrowing this from Prime library, I'm moving on.
Sometimes the deepest burns are hidden from view. Well, I personally really enjoyed this book. I love the sweet teenage love stories. This was not your everyday love story, that’s for sure. I noticed that either not a lot of people read this book or those that did didn’t leave a review. I truly enjoyed this story and it is a story I would recommend others reading too.
different title here. I got it free on amazon called Burned.
really enjoyed this small town story. very relatable characters. really felt for Holly at the amusement park. :( I wanted to hug her and punch Bobby arrrggg!! I loved Audrey and Ray's story also. will be reading more books from krista:)
DNF, I just could not get in to this book at all, I in no way blame the author as it might just be me, even though I have given 2 stars it may have been more if I had managed to finish the book. I have read YA books before so it wasn't that, I really don't know what to say!
