Tony Ruggiero is best known for his dark fantasy thrillers about vampires being used by the US military. Ground breaking and fast paced, the novels are a characteristic mixture of the vampire lore of Anne Rice and the clandestine secrets of the military found in Tom Clancy novels. The concept led to a series of books released in 2006 through 2010, labeled the Team of Darkness Declassified Files. The books include: Operation Immortal Servitude, Operation Save the Innocent, Operation Face the Fear, and Operation Endgame.
A longtime favorite for Tony is the old style of “space opera” type stories which is the center of his two book series: Alien Deception and Alien Revelation. The series deals with an alien organization that has infiltrated the American political system. The series runs the gauntlet from humorous and light hearted to deadly serious as a young man and woman search for answers.
His latest release is Coven. Little towns and secrets: a guilty pleasure for some and a harsh reality for others. Witches have secretly been in control of the town council for years and the town has prospered...until now. As they search for the truth behind the mysterious death of one of their shop owners, they uncover disturbing secrets about an ostracized witch and their own coven leader, making it unclear which one may have been using black magic to murder.
Tony retired from the United States Navy in 2001 after twenty-three years of service. He and his family currently reside in Portsmouth, Virginia. While continuing to write, Tony teaches at Old Dominion University and Saint Leo University. Visit his website to read sample chapters at www.tonyruggiero.com

This book was soooo good. I couldn't put it down. I read it in 1 day and I had to go to work the next day. It doesn't bog you down with lots of military detail. It kept my attention to the vampires and what they were sent to do. I'll be reading his next book, Alien Deception.

This was a very enjoyable read. The characters were well developed and it was filled with action. I enjoyed the plot twists throughout the second half of the story. The author did a great job of using his knowledge of the military and incorporated it in ways that were easy to understand and follow. I highly recommend this read.

Though I had much fun reading this book, there were several items that also bothered me. First, let me say that while reading the story I immediately thought of it as a book for male readers. Don't get me wrong - this is not meant as pure criticism, but just a personal observation. There are such authors I consider mainly read by either males or females. For example, Clancy definitely is one them ;) But how does that influence my impression of the book? I have to admit, at times I got bored with all the military stuff and explanations.

The writing had a very matter-of-fact style, which made it hard for me to feel with the characters and really get involved. While I enjoyed the fast action and plot twists, I was not as emotionally engaged as I have experienced with other books. One other thing that bothered me were the dialogues, especially the statements given by Dimitri. While they did show depth and philosophical content, they were often expressed in a plain way which diminished their true value.

The first part of the plot was predictable but well-written, so it never got boring and kept me reading. The end offered some surprise and the promise for a sequel. Add more emotion to the characters and story and that will be even better.

Note to self: this book closes a gap - while I have read vampire stories from almost every genre mix so far, I had not yet read a military vampire story.

This was a refreshing book to read! I enjoyed reading a vampire book that was actually about the vampires and not about the sex! Had a hard time putting this book down, had enough info to understand the military aspects without boring me with an overabundance of unnecessary jargon.

Some violence, (wouldn't want to read a vampire book with none) but not graphic enough to be gory. I would recommend this to the men (and teenage boys) in my life. Look forward to future reads from Mr. Ruggeiro.
