Wade is a throwaway, forced into prostitution at fourteen and living on the mean streets of Los Angeles. Nearly four years later, and now calling himself Trick, he’s still struggling to survive. While huddled in a doorway on a cold rainy morning, he thanks his lucky stars when an expensive Mercedes pulls up and rolls down a window.
Phoenix, known as Master P, may be a big intimidating Dom, but he has a soft spot for vulnerable young men. When he sees a homeless kid trembling in the cold, he has to stop and pick him up. What he finds is a boy with a naturally submissive nature and a damaged soul. As he begins to train the boy at the online BDSM club where he’s employed, DOMZ.com, they form a fast and explosive combination.
When Trick begins to fall for his big Dom, Phoenix is forced to tell him that this is only play. The resulting fallout will shake Phoenix to his very core. Is this chance encounter doomed for failure or can the two men find a balance?

This book has left me all of a quandary, because I loved it and hated it both at the same time, the concept is great but the content is all wrong! I was totally engaged with the characters, Trick is an adorable innocent and Phoenix the all powerful Dom and I liked him, when really, I should actually hate him… the problem being - was Trick only swapping one evil for another?… see …confused!!
Trick, who’s real name is Wade was thrown out of house and home at the age of 14 for being gay, which led him to living on the streets and selling his body for food… four years later, he is tired and used up, pitiful and lost, huddling in a doorway from the rain with his whole being shouting “help me” so when Phoenix spots him by chance, he stops. Trick is streetwise, he has had to be just to survive, but there was such a vulnerability to him that screamed sub that it pulled at Phoenix's heart strings and knowing full well what it is like to be homeless his empathy kicks in and he is compelled to help him!
Trick is confused, he thinks Phoenix is just a John that wants to fuck him like everyone else, he is a whore after all and a John never spent more than the required time with him, let alone speak to him… and conversations and buying him food… nope that never happened either! Phoenix is all well meaning and cares deeply for Trick and that is what he should have explained to a boy that would obviously hero worship him because of his kindness, a boy that would fall in love with him but not think himself worthy of being loved, so we have a whole lot of communication issues right there to start with!
So you can imagine, my heart is breaking for Trick, he is alone in the world, having survived without love or comfort and the mundane things in life we all take for granted, he himself had never experienced and just being normal was something he wanted to hold onto even if it was only for a short while.
Phoenix works for DOMZ.COM which is an online BDSM site where members can watch live scenes being played out, and when at play he is Master P, There is a whole compound with lots of space and rooms with various Masters that work for Master Z, Zachary Teak the owner and the Dom of local Cop Ryan Cassidy. If my understanding is correct the premise of this series is taking boys who are gay and fallen on hard times and giving them hope and love… there are six books in the series and I can see them all being subs paired with a suitable Dom.
Now, my head is telling me that this is all so wrong, taking boys and offering them a life in the BDSM/Porn scene screams of taking advantage of their vulnerability, and it is also convenient that Trick is a sub but had to be enlightened to the fact and in real life I would be appalled, there are issues regarding trust not discussed and Trick was never really given any choices in his future. But… this is fiction and I read some pretty dark books that I even shock myself with… and in fiction I want the MC’s to find love and I want Trick to be cherished… because if anyone needs it, it’s him and I also think that Phoenix is that man but alas we have no HEA in this book, we do have some BDSM scenes which were sizzling and HAWT! and Phoenix is droolworthy in his leather and buzzed hair, so if this is your thing and like me you can can see this series as a guilty pleasure and dispel reality then you will enjoy this book. If not, then don’t read this book!
Ms Logan writing, certainly kept me turning the pages and wanting more, I was totally engrossed and compelled to read it, even downloading the next book as soon as I had finished, wanting to know more, I did however feel at times the conversations between the characters were a little stilted and didn’t flow, they just felt uncomfortable somehow, and there were some editing issues, but as you can see I was totally invested in the characters and I want them to find happiness and my heart was just about broken for Trick… onto Jett now!
Laughably bad. The very worst aspects of the BDSM and rent-boy sub-genres, without a single redeeming feature. Appalling. Should be an object lesson in how not to write m/m anything at all, ever.
Well... I see a lot of great reviews for this book. As far as the writing goes, it is good. The sex is hot but I don't think it overcomes the horrible personal cost that Trick pays to have it.
The character of Trick is compelling. Zack and Master P though are nothing but scummy pimps. And self congratulatory one's at that. It boggles the mind that Cassidy doesn't make the same connection in this book. That he doesn't see it and call them on it ruins his character for me now too.
Trick has no options. He is a homeless rentboy trying to stay out of the rain when he runs into Master P. Immediately, Master P decides to rescue him and get him off the streets. Great. I commend that. However, his idea to do so means that he brings Trick to a sex shop and offers a homeless kid room and board and a cut of the profits for having sex on camera. Trick has no other options and knows no other life. Of course he takes it. Don't get me started on the immediate and full immersion in the kinky side of it all too. The kid is filmed having sex without any mention of legalities or contracts. No business discussions. Legally that should have happened, but in reality, none are needed because the kid doesn't think he has any other options anyway. Have sex on the street in the rain and get paid for it or have sex in a room with a camera and get paid for it. Might as well make the best of it.
What is so terrible really is that Zack and Master P do this so matter of fact and act like they are actually doing him a favor. "wow, aren't we great, we are getting this rentboy off the street!". In the meantime they talk about the popularity of the kid on the live feeds and are making a bucketload off of him. While they are counting the $$$, he's in his onsite room and the reader should at this point realize, just as he does that his life hasn't changed, just the location. And the saddest part is that Trick knows it even as he stockholm/white knight syndromes falls for his "rescuer" (aka Master "P"imp) who he feels lucky to have.
So, Domz.com is a business. I'm not against that kind of business. When the doms are hired and the subscribers have a life they lead away from it and CHOOSE to be there because they have options then it's all consensual and I'm totally on board. Since it is a business, Zack and Master P could have trained Trick to be a cameraman or a technical editor. Hell, Zack has a terrible receptionist. It's a running gag in the book. Trick could have been given that job and at least learned a marketable skill and maybe earned himself some self respect that he could use to get OUT OF THE SEX TRADE.
So. Hmm. Well, overall I think it's an appalling abuse of trust and power and after reading Jett's book it only gets worse. Not only for Trick but now for another unfortunate kid with nowhere to turn.

I was a bit torn with this one. On one hand, I enjoyed most of it. On the other, I was a bit disappointed. I loved the idea. Master P comes across Trick "tricking" and decides to save him and offer him a chance at a better life. Unfortunately, things become a bit far fetched at this point. Master P does give him a place to stay, etc. but offers Trick a job "training as his sub" on his employer's live video stream site. There was quite a bit of bad bdsm behavior that also didn't sit very well with me.
That said, I loved Trick/Wade's character. He is a total sweetheart who has had a rough life when his parents kicked him out when he came out. He's been living on the streets for four years, doing what he must to survive.
This doesn't have much of an HEA and a fairly weak HFN. Hoping to see more closure in the next story.
As pure "Pretty Woman" type but in the MM variety this hits the spot. Loved Wade (Trick) and how he could seem innocent after everything he has gone through. The DomZ thing is kind of cool and, after a bit of the book passed, I could see it in an online environment. Although I make comparison to Pretty Woman this is not really a romance - and there is really no HEA or even HFN. I guess it's the hooker/rent boy who has a rich (but used to be poor) guy pick him up and bring him to the Hills (metaphorically speaking of course). A few cases of stilted dialogue that could be cleaned up but otherwise a pretty fun read!
This was a good read. This was book 1 in the "Master's Boys" series. Wade is a throwaway, forced into prostitution at fourteen and living on the mean streets of Los Angeles because his family kicked him out. Nearly four years later, and now calling himself Trick. While huddled in a doorway on a cold rainy morning, he thanks his lucky stars when an expensive Mercedes pulls up and rolls down a window. Phoenix is on his way to work when he spots a homeless teen in a doorway he stops to help him he has a soft spot for homeless youth. Trick doesn't know what to think about Phoenix he buys him breakfast in which he (steals the tip) he takes him to Domz.com he works as a online Dom. Phoenix knows that Trick is a sub and he is willing to train him. This was a good read I liked the owner Zack who is also a Dom and his sub Cassidy who is a detective with LAPD. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.
I am so glad that this is only the first book in this series. It means I have more to look forward to, and I am.
For such a short story, Patricia Logan gave me a lot of information, but there was never an information dump. What I got was a really heart warming story of two men who were not wanted by there family's.
Wade, who was a homeless throwaway, and Phoenix, the man who saw so much potential in him. The BDSM aspects were not over done, and it turned out to really just be a beautiful love story.
There was a fast pace, that wasn't rushed, and secondary characters who I want to learn more about.
I will be reading the next part of this series soon.
The sequels did not pan out for me, at all. These were not my kind of BDSM M/M romance stories.
Originally written on March 8, 2013: I am going to wait to rate this one until the sequel(s) comes out. Apparently the MCs weigh heavily in the series to come and we got a HFN instead of a HEA, and to be perfectly honest, in a book like this, I need for our MCs to have their HEA together to be happy and satisfied.
I liked it. There's usually a nice gritiness to Patricia Logan's writing, and she captures Trick's desperate life really well. It's a simple story, with several classic BDSM scenes played out, all in all a very good start to the Master's Boys series.
Audio performed by Peter B. Brooke who delivers his trademark gruff, growly dom voice as well as his sweet subby one.
Yet again another fantastic book by Patrica Logan! Wade or Trick as he calls himself has been thrown out of his home for being gay and has been living as a prostitute in LA for 4 years. I know that this REALLY does happen and I spent the whole book just wanting to give the boy a huge hug and make everything better, fortunately Phoenix or Master P is doing the same thing. I love the interactions between the two as Trick adjusts to the idea of someone just being nice and it's good being back inside DOMZ.com which I probably love more than is healthy!
This is a short book and at the end you are left desperate for book 2 - Jett - so I will spend the next couple of weeks hounding the author to GET OFF social media and GET WRITING!! And I won't be alone!!!
I started with the cover art, loving the slender submissive male on the cover. I was touched how she began the book with a poem, a beautiful one at that. I immediately connected with and cared for Trick, standing in the rain, hoping to find a customer. I was in love when I got to chapter 2 and read the first pages in Master P's perspective- he was an dominant I could believe in. As the book unfolds, as does Master P's plan, I love to see how he cared for Trick and how sweet it was when he used Trick's given name, Wade.
She has written an absolutely fascinating book that looks at a side of life that most people don't want to know about with characters that you can't help but root for. I can't wait until the next book in the series comes out!!
This is the first book in a series of novellas taking place at DOMZ.com, a business making money from streaming sub training sessions over the internet. An interesting idea, and subtly different from "just porn", but that is a matter of semantics. The fact is that, from what I have seen in this first book, the series is still about boys who get paid to have sex – except it is on camera, not in the streets or some seedy motel. However, that is just what happens on the surface. Underneath it all, as always, there are human beings with all their physical and emotional needs and it will be interesting to see how the various participants in this series are motivated and how they end up dealing with the reality of their jobs.
Wade, who named himself Trick when he was kicked out of his own home as soon as his parents found out he is gay, has survived on the streets of LA doing whatever he needed to do to survive. Mostly he sold his body, and, now eighteen, he has no hope and no expectation that will ever change. His self-esteem is nonexistent, so when Phoenix, also know as Master P, picks him up, feeds him, then offers him a job to have sex (or be trained, as he calls it) on camera, Wade has no idea what to think. Mind you, his issue is that he doesn't trust the offer, not that he wishes he could get out of the sex trade. That is three steps beyond where he is at currently. His other problem is that he is falling for Master P (I suspect this is mostly Stockholm Syndrome, the misplaced gratitude of a victim toward his jailor). Wade wants to be cherished, he needs affection, and if it weren't for the fact that he takes to the kinky things Master P does to him like a duck to water, I'd probably yell "abuse". As it is, I am willing to suspend judgment and give him a few years to grow up and figure out what he really wants to do. At least he is physically safe for now.
Master P is a piece of work. I know, most people will probably see him as the savior of a young, endangered boy, but I cannot quite get there. All I can say is that he may mean well, but he is too immersed in the sex trade himself, and loving it, to conceive of someone else wanting a different life. He is also very selfish in wanting to make Wade "his boy", so he never gives Wade a choice. Granted, he does get Wade off the street, which makes him a somewhat decent human being, but he isn't really the "savior" or "white knight" that society and those who like fairy tales would like to see. If that were the case, he'd have offered Wade a job as receptionist, or have him trained for any of the other jobs at DOMZ.com.
So, if you’re looking for a story a la "Pretty Woman", you will be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you want a look at the grittier side of life, if you enjoy reading a "forbidden" fantasy about a somewhat romanticized version of what it's like to be a sex worker, and if you’re looking for a hot read where a strong Master rescues a suffering boy to make him his sub, then you will probably enjoy this novella.
NOTE: This book was provided by the author for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
Trick has been living on the streets since his family discovered his sexual orientation. He has had to make do with selling himself to men and woman to be able to survive. He doesn't know when his next meal is coming or where he will lay his head next. He only knows that he must survive. One rainy morning, while huddling under an alcove avoiding the rain, he is approached by Phoenix. Master P is immediatley drawn to the young man he picked up in the streets. He sees something in the young man and he is determined to help Trick out of his situation.
So after reading the blurb for this title I thought the concept was interesting enough and wanted to see how it would be played out. Although the writing was good, with some interesting dialogue exchanges and hot sex scenes, I can't help put point out that concept lacked in its execution.
There were some issues that weren't dealt with and some scenes that just baffled me. For example, were was Trick's development in the story? I didn't get see that he experience any change at all to tell you the truth. His rescue from the streets didn't enlighten or helped him grow as a person in any monumental sense. He went from being paid to have sex in the street to being paid to have sex on video. Why couldn't he start as a gopher in the company. I don't know, he could have replaced Master Z's receptionist and learned some office skills instead of being thrown into the BDSM world head on. That right there baffled me.
In regards to the issues that weren't dealt with I could not overlook the fact that Trick starts working but is not presented with a contract or some kind of orientation into what he will be getting into. Master P didn't even discuss the kid's limits, he just showed him a couple of scenes, mentioned safe words and went right to having Trick perform.
I truly hoped that I would find something redeemable about this title, but I could not. I found the character's lacking, Trick needed to grow and discover himself as a young man and Master P needed to be taken down a few notches. The emotions were lacking and the chemistry and connection between the men felt forced to me.
This is the first book in the Master's Boys series and as such I am willing to concede that the first book in a series can be a little hard to execute properly. I am hoping that the next book in the series improves in its execution.
I really really like Trick/Wade. He has been hurt and badly but Phoenix is there to help him. For the first time ever he feels cared for and for someone so in need of love that is great. I recommend this but only to those who enjoy all different aspects of the BDSM genre. Phoenix and Wade encompass all sides, from the rough to the gentle, but the relationship doesn't progress much until the second book.
Why aren't more people reading this series. I know it's only the first book but I just loved it! Not 5-star love but a very solid 4. God, I wanna take Trick (Wade) home and keep him! Kinky smexing, BDSM, hot Dom, what more could a girl want?
Ewwww ... Pretty Woman-ish where instead of the whore getting married and driving off into the sunset, the hero client becomes the pimp and thinks because he's cleaned up the client base, he's doing the poor slut a favour.
This book is set back in DOMZ.com which I just read about in Silver Ties.
When Wades parents found out he was gay at the tender age of 14 they threw him out on the street with 10 dollars in his pocket. For the last four years he has lived on the streets and turned to prostitution to survive......and really he is only just surviving. When Phoenix told his parents he was gay they were fine about it. When he tried to explain his involvement in the BDSM lifestyle he was told to go and not bring embarrassment on his family. He is now a very popular Dom at DOMZ.com and known to the online community as Master P. When he spies Wade in a shop front one morning on his way to work something about the desperation in his eyes calls to him and he makes the impulsive decision to pull over and offer the boy a hot meal. One meal turns to two which turns to a hot shower and new clothes and before he realises it Phoenix can’t bear the thought of sending this beautiful young man back to his life on the streets. He comes up with an idea for a job and once the owner Zach, who we meet in Silver Ties, has agreed he puts forward his daring proposition to Wade. Nobody has been kind to Wade in such a long time that he is instantly suspicious but agrees without hesitation in the hope that he can keep a roof over his head and food in his stomach. As Wade starts out on his training Phoenix becomes more attracted and attached to the young man but we don’t really get a HEA of even a HFN at the end of the book. I am hoping that we find out what happens with the two of them later on in the series
Tricks is 18 and living on the streets, selling his body to survive. Master Phoenix picks him up one night and decides to train him to be a sub for the online webstreaming company he works for domz.com
The idea had merit, but the execution sorely lacked. Master P was without a doubt one of the worst doms I have ever read and dear lord, free me from all knowing doms who will negate other peoples opinions, because they apparently know better!
I think the lack of length harmed this story a lot - it ends at 85% - we have no idea about these characters other than a very 2-dimensional view of a stereotypical dom and a too innocent to believe rent boy. If Trick has lived on the streets for 4 years when we meet him, I cannot believe he has so little street savvy, he would have wised up or been dead by now...
Master Phoenix was apparently named Ivan? And there were some notion of a back story, which made me think that this was a spin off from another series or book? I don't know. It ends on a HFN note, but there are 3 more in the series, so this couple will probably crop up again at some point later in the series.
This was not for me. But if you are looking for a quick read with quite a high sex to plot ratio, it might be for you.
Slightly a little too pat: the trust issue between Trick and Phoenix never got explored; there was no real backstory for either of them (apart from being thrown out of home when they each came out to their families); and there was no build-up/explanation of why they should 'feel' good about each other.
Not bad, but could have been expanded. (Maybe I'll learn more in the next two episodes) :)
This had the potential to be awesome. Instead it was awful. Master P is a creep that thinks he is a hero...dude was skeezy. Wish I'd read this review first. I believe I am done with this series and possibly this author. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go shower this off.
4.5 stars Trick's story is quite sad' On the streets from a young age, working the streets to get money to eat etc, until one rainy morning when someone he thinks is just a posh guy, on is way to work, closeted and after a quick hook up, offers him so much more than just a hook up. Master P isn't looking for another sub but when he sees Trick he's reminded of his past and, after deciding to take a chance on the lost young man, huddled in the doorway, realises that Trick is so much more than just a prostitute/street worker. What follows is a fantastically written story, full of emotion as well as a jealous, vindictive character too. Even though I absolutely loved Trick' story I'm gutted at how it ended and am hoping we get more of his story in the rest of the books of the series, hence me only giving it 4.5 stars.
