It's time for the Human Empire to expand and take on this Frekkin threat!
"Assault" is the fifth book in the SODIUM series (comprised of novellas Assault a, Assault b and Assault c). The world struggles to recover from the devistation caused by the Moon's gravity. The Human Empire pushes to defeat their enemies. The threat of the Frekkin Empire must be abolished. Will Man be ready for that which comes? Find out as the exciting SODIUM series continues!
I came to this planet sixty some odd years ago. After exiting my mother's portal, the doctor slapped me around until I started breathing the oxygen. I'll admit, at the time, I had no idea what I was doing or where I was. Being an infant Human, I was completely reliant on the responsible actions of others. It was a time that I have largely forgotten.
I reside in Central Florida with the wife and children. After thirty years in engineering, my time is now spent chronicling the adventures of fictitious heroes. They are off-world, fighting the good fight. For me? I'm stuck here on this planet in this feeble existence that we Humans are all forced to endure.
So, I ask you this... do you wish to escape the bonds of this surly planet we call Earth? Are you looking for a bit more adventure than what the grocery store has to offer? Do you worry about being enslaved by alien androids or six-eyed alien goats with lasers? Pew, pew, pew!
Yeah, that's what I thought. Asking yourself those questions and getting back an answer is the first hurdle to cross in the race to get off this world. Sounds like you are ready to venture out, to put this place behind you.
So crack open one of my books. Take to the heavens and let me shout this out to those who remain: "Watch out universe! Another Human is on the loose!"
Just as in SODIUM:4, this volume ends with the main character, by now the Supreme Leader of the Human Empire, a captive of enemy aliens. Aliens who do not now seem so scary and evil in comparison to THEIR enemy. I can imagine little more frightening to a civilization than to discover that their powerful and dread enemy who have almost destroyed them, are themselves fleeing an even more powerful and evil enemy. Technology must continue to race ahead to find ways to combat increasingly powerful and mysterious enemies. Apparently SODIUM:6 will continue with the same main character.
I liked it much more than the previous book. I was happy to not read all of the technical space ship mumbo jumbo that was in the previous book. The character development was much better and the different aliens kept it interesting. A few parts were ridiculous as they didn't fit into the character, but it was overall an enjoyable read.
Humans just cant seem to get a break at all as they try to survive whilst building up alliances and meeting new threats whilst hoping to finally defeat the empire which started it all. Good continuation of previous characters and a nice page turner
A series of books with no direct speech and no charcter names is very brave because those are a large part of what helps a reader to identify with the lead character. I have to say that Stephen manages it beautifully. I would recommend reading this series first, then reading AMP, then reading Sodium again. Everything becomes incredibly clear.
