J.E. Fison is an Australian writer. Her first series for young adventure lovers was inspired by a family holiday on the Noosa River. Her sons teamed up with friends and spent the summer exploring sand bands, building camps and dodging stingrays. She had to write about it. The result was the Hazard River series - about a gang of kids who encounter all sorts of dangers while holidaying on Hazard River. The books are page-turners with short chapters - perfect for reluctant readers, and young wildlife lovers. J.E. Fison has many other books for tweens and teens as well as a play. Introducing us to another animal in danger, Bat Attack! continues the story of Jack's holiday at Hazard River.
It's New Year's Eve and a near collision between Jack's bike and a car has him wondering what the driver's big hurry is. So, of course, he chases after the car to find out.
In the process, he learns a lot more about bats than he ever thought he would. This is partly due to his friend Mimi, who is a wealth of knowledge, and partly because he's face-to-face with the screaming creatures.
Slowly, Jack is learning the perils of combining saving all manner of species with life as a normal boy.
And he knows that a holiday at Hazard River will always guarantees lots of adventure.

In Bat Attack the kids are getting geared up for the Hazard River New Year’s Eve disco. On their way to the fire station where the disco will be held, Jack and Ben are almost skittled by a speeding ute. Due to the near collision, a backpack has fallen from the vehicle. Naturally the super sleuths look inside. What they find is a map to a derelict gold mine, which proves to be home to a colony of rare ghost bats. When the fearless four discover the ute’s owner’s plans to blow up the mine and thus destroy the bats’ habitat, they come up with an effective, if not particularly smart way to foil the baddies’ plan—and all before midnight. The Hazard River series has much going for it: Beautifully bright, detailed covers, non-stop action, short cliff-hanger chapters and wise-cracking characters kids will love. While there are a few interesting facts to be had, this series is geared towards entertainment. Kids, particularly boys aged 7+ with a lust for adventure will have a hard time putting these books down.
