For a year Abri and five other women have found themselves trapped on a lonely planet, after their shuttle crashes on its way to Ulsy. They have fled Earth and the fiery rubble it has become. The crash has left Abri deaf and hurting with her aloneness. When sound becomes nothing, her other senses heighten, especially when they encounter two huge, handsome aliens.
Raiden has seen human women, but on his planet females are few and far between. He and his warrior mate, Cace, can’t believe their good luck when they stumble across six of them on a deserted planet. The little deaf female, Abri, catches Raiden’s heart the moment her essence seeps into his skin. He must have her. Their healing waters or his shield will cure her strange malady once they have mated. Or will it?

Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.

From the author:
Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.

I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.

I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.

I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?

Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.

If you want to get to know me better join me on FB or twitter. Right now I need to change back into a mom, it's my best super power.

The Castians are still out searching nearby worlds for any stranded humans. They are desperate for female mates and human women are irresistible.

They come across Abri's group and Raiden is immediately taken with her even though she's been injured and can barely hear.

Great continuation of a great series.

Another good read in this series

I did find the female lead annoying in how she treated people. This story also wasn’t as full of discovery as the others were. On a plus side it did have disabilities as a plot line and eventually as a strength.

I’m off to book 6.

this is probably one of the most beautiful stories ive heard, Just because someone can't see or hear or speak doesn't mean they are less of a person. the main female character does really really really annoy me shes so winey! get a grip in my view! the main male character is a wonderful picture of love! It's a touching story where love wins! :-)
I listened it via audible and it added so much to the story!
having listened to the other books it really helped me understand this.

Ok so sometimes this book does verge on forcing a woman to do something but if you understand the concept of the books you understand why.

Finished this one the other day, I really liked it, but it's really hard to top Doss from book #4, I think he's set my Castian/Tonan standards quite high!

Cute romance though, the pair was really well matched, but I wish we'd gotten to know them a bit better, this one seemed more circumstantial than anything else, I wanted the focus shifted more towards them getting to know each other. I think again maybe its just because Doss and Zoe were such strong, interesting characters.

Interesting premise and health conditions of the female lead. It lead to an interesting development, but the plot fell flat.

I know Cobra is trying to assist his warriors, but he gets on my last nerve. Abri watches her parents die while escaping a dying earth then gets injured in the crash to an alien planet. One year later, all her other senses have been enhanced so that she and the other 4 women can survive the unknown dangers that surround them. Then all heck breaks loose when the Castians and the Tonans show up. She meets Raidan, Doss’s brother and Cace his warrior partner. Now back to why Cobra gets on my nerves, he has the nerve to get an attitude when Raidan partially heals Abri. But Abri gets the last laugh!

the author takes you on a journey of the senses. not as action packed or fast paced as the others but still steamy and romantic. the lightness of the story delved a little deeper and I didn't have and witty laugh out loud moments like the other books.
so this outline was definitely different.
it gives you an option to understand human senses and how they can be experienced at different angles and in different ways.
Matthew again did perfectly but his tone for dry wit wasn't needed as much in this book.

I'm really enjoying this series. This was about Abri and Raiden. Oh and once again Cobra. I'm really getting tired of that guy.

Cobra loves to come in and ruin everyone's day.

Abri is partially deaf and I love how Raiden cares from her right from the start despite her not being able to hear him.

Not expect much with this one as it is a "I will save you and might be able to 'cure' your affliction", trope. She had cancer which we knew had to be cured. This could be an enhancement of the other senses or a new sense, I would hope. But so far these have been the Castian becomes all to the female.

This one was decent but a bit mundane. It may be that it is running its course. I will finish out the series.

Stars: 4

Overall: Abri and a few other woman crash land on a planet on there way to Ulys. They spend a year there , until one night a ship lands and saves them. When Abri first meets Raiden she can't hear him because the crash made her deaf, but once they mate, she gets half her hearing back and he gets half of his taken away. At first Raiden and Corba are both upset about it because in Cobra's eyes that makes Raiden weak, but after a few weeks Raiden is able to sense things that no one else can. After some scaring moments at the end Raiden and Abri become a couple to be reckoned with.

Pros: I really liked how Abri & Raiden connected with the hearing lose and finding a middle ground and making that so much more than what you had before. At first it was hard for them and than everyday seemed to bring that closer and showed what the true love was really about.

Cons: In most of these stories I don't care for Corba and how he treats the women that are boarding his ship. I get that he has to be watchful of everyone because he is in charged of everyone, but he is just a little too much for me at times and how he reacts to certain situations.

Characters: Abri & Raiden

Series Cont: Yes

When I picked up book one on a whim I thought it was fun, and acceptable for a new writer. By the time I read the fourth book I was greatly impressed with the author's growth and was amazed at how the story had evolved from sci-fi fluff to plot driven romance. Unfortunatley, Engulf took a step back and was more on par with the first book in the series; Light on story, and characters that I felt like I never fully got to know.

If I had to guess I would say the publisher/fans were demanding another book too soon, leaving the author under pressure and eventually leading to the release of sub-par material.

I hope Scholey takes her time with the next installment and brings back the spark that I found in books 2-4 :(

*Let me clarify that I don't discourage anyone from reading the New World series, they're great reads in the 'mars needs women' trope. I read a lot of sci-fi romance so I know it's hard to find good ones. Compared to others (of the same genre) Engulf would probably rate a 5, but I'm rating based on what I know Scholey can produce, and I know this isn't her best :(

.....And yay! yay! yay! Thank you C.L. Scholey

I thoroughly enjoyed this entire book with absolutely no caveats! ;)

Raiden was everything a hot alien should strive to be. He is a tough male with a caring inside that is not so much gooey but, caring & thoughtful.

What made me love both Raiden and Abri was that they came across real. They both have struggles working out feelings and emotions while trying to figure out what it is going on between them. This story had a progression to their relationship that felt real. I loved it.

A must read if your day is in need of a really lovely HEA!

Abri is a heroine that is strong that not only embraces her adversities she makes them her strengths! Raiden is a wonderful male that is slightly flawed in his reaction to "mating" with Abri. But together they create a wonderful love story that completely captivates. I never wanted this book to end and had to start the series over just so I didn't have to say good-bye to this wonderful writers world. I hope that this series never ends! Keep up the fantastic work C.L!

I've read the whole series. This is probably not the best one of it, but still above many others in the same genre.
I really liked the author choosing someone with a handicap as the heroine and that she made her someone courageous. The positive twist given to something that could be view as a source of danger made me smile.
The hero being naive whereas the heroine is sexually experienced is a nice touch.

What a brilliant series, I hope the author continues with these. Appreciating yet again another angle on the Castian/Human matings with a forced mating between Abri and Raiden and how the relationship has to build afterwards. Very enjoyable.
