Gwen Palmer's saucy mouth gets in the way of her heart's desire...again. Just when she is about to trade her baker's hat for a nun's habit, she comes face to face with her idol, Ethan Reynolds.
Ethan isn't immune to Gwen's loose lips. Nor her quirkiness. And something about her smile tugs at his heart. Will he look beyond her outrageous remarks and see the truth inside? Or will Gwen lose her one chance at true love?
Super cute and quirky. Whether Gwen is twitterpated, addlebrained, or just loose lipped, she can't stop her thoughts from pouring out of her mouth. The fact that she looses her inner thoughts in front of a local panty dropping handsome celebrity when he stops in at her pastry shop, mortifies her, but instantly raises his curiosity. The awkwardness leaves them both confused and curious. The fact that her sudden attraction takes place so close to her getting a "special" gift for her birthday doesn't dampen the feeling. Ethan can't seem to stay away from this entertaining and sexy baker, despite the no relationship pact he's made with himself.
This was a cute nibble of an adult love story about a girl with a bit of an issue/curse that finds her true love. If the future stories are longer, I'd enjoy reading more about this Tipsy Godmother.
Oh, I sooooo identify with this main character! I have a tendency to blurt out things that sound fine in my head, but somehow the words completely change when they fall out of my mouth. Gwen is a normal, intelligent woman, but somehow, when she is in the presence of a single man her brain malfunctions and her mouth operates like it has a mind of its own. In the scenes where Gwen and Ethan meet, her humiliation just builds and builds with every word. It is so funny!
While most men are turned off by Gwen’s running mouth and biting honesty, Ethan finds it refreshing. As a famous celebrity chef, Ethan is fed up with disingenuous people who want to ride his coat tails. At least with Gwen, he knows where he stands. The romance that builds between the two felt realistic. It was quick, but no insta-love. The pacing was perfect for a novella length story.
I really liked the elements of magic in this story. In a novella, it is hard to build an elaborate paranormal world. The hints of magic reminded me a little of an Alice Hoffman novel. Just perfect.
The writing quality in this book was strong. (There is nothing worse than downloading an e-book that is riddled with errors.) Ms. Gray’s use of dialog was brilliant, and the book was well edited. This was a fun, short read.
Overall, I give Sweet Serendipity...
Plot - 5 bookmarks Character development - 4 bookmarks (Probably would have been 5 if it had been a full length novel and the characters had more time to grow.) Paranormal elements - 5 bookmarks Dream cast (otherwise known as who I pictured while reading) - Curtis Stone (Ethan - I know his coloring doesn’t match the character, but when I think of hot celebrity chef, my mind goes straight to Curtis), Carey Mulligan (Gwen), Carol Kane (Eliza)
What a super sweet story and I really mean sweet, the main character owns a bakery. Yum! This story started out really strong. For a novella it was really good. I am not a huge fan of short stories or novella’s but this one was good. It had enough details to keep me interested and the characters (all of them) were really likable!
I am beginning to think that this author is always making her main male characters perfect. I mean perfect! Sweet, kind and pretty much do no wrong. Ethan was amazing; he was total book boyfriend material. The female lead, Gwen was not the same. She had a serious case of diarrhea of the mouth and could not stop saying really weird and embarrassing things. I liked her and then the more she talked I liked her a little less. You could tell from the start she was kind and caring. She wasn't even annoying or immature she just blurted out these crazy things. Ethan and Gwen’s romance was sweet, subtle and not forced at all.
This book is short, sweet and definitely worth the read!
This book was awesome. It had me laughing out loud. I fell in love with Gwen and her unfiltered mouth! Ethan was hot, and may be gracing some fantasies of my own pretty soon! A man who is hot, can cook and sweet to boot? He's amazing, and perfect. The fact that he isn't put off by the odd things Gwen says, makes him a great man. Reading this, you won't be able to contain your chuckling at the things coming out of this woman's mouth. Bravo to the author for making a sweet romantic book something really enjoyable. I love quick wit and things that make me smile. Plus, there's a little heat in the kitchen sprinkled in! Great read, and I think you should definitely pick this one up.
Let me start off by saying that I absolutely loved Gwen and her habit of just saying whatever popped into her head. I thought her character was endearing and down right laugh out loud. Elena takes us on a beautiful journey of sweet romance, with the little help of a friend. I loved how Ethan still felt the pull towards Gwen no matter what she said.
Elena takes us on a journey with Gwen and Ethan, they have people in their lives on both sides that keep nudging them in each other's direction. Plus there is that little item from Mystique Antiques Shop. This book will have you laughing out loud. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more from Elena.
My favorite line in this story was "Would you like to lick my cupcake?"Gwen has no filter when she speaks to men. She had me rolling on my bed laughing with the things that came out of her mouth. When Ethan meets her he thinks he's being pranked because of what she says to him.
Love the matchmaking skills of Mrs. Haverty. I loved this story. It's sweet, funny and romantic. I highly recommend this book.
A fantastic short love story! With a little magic in it! Gwen the main character had me dying laughing with her honesty blurbs! 🤣 if only we all could be like her! And Ethan was just the cherry on top. This was a lovely comedy romance for sure! Give it a try you won’t regret it! Is fast and will make your day
Cute, fun "chick lit" story with a lot of great lines! I love the author's sense of humor. I could see where the story was headed, but the characters were so likeable that I didn't want it to end any other way.
Cute cute cute! This is such a cute fun story. I hated how short it was but I smiled the whole time. I feel for Gwen and her mouth slips.... I have no filter either. With lots of lol moments this is a sweet book to fill your time
