Cities have become the most dangerous places on Earth, infested with thousands of Bane, and people must now survive in the mountains and wilderness. But ammunition and medicine are essential to survival and they don’t grow on trees. Eve, as an elite defender of Eden, must go on a raid with a small team into the city for supplies that will keep their people alive. But this dangerous world is evolving and the rules that once kept them safe are changing.
THE RAID is a 3,000 word short story in THE EDEN TRILOGY. Book one, THE BANE, will be available March 5, 2013.
Keary Taylor is the USA TODAY bestselling author of over twenty novels. She grew up along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains where she started creating imaginary worlds and daring characters who always fell in love. She now splits her time between a tiny island in the Pacific Northwest and Utah, with her husband and their two children. She continues to have an overactive imagination that frequently keeps her up at night.

When I saw that this short was free on amazon I jumped the gun on it. I was accepted to review The Bane (The Eden Trilogy #1) on NetGalley and sadly have yet to get to it but thankfully Keary gave her fans a free short sneak peek into the revision world she has created.
I am one of the few that have yet to read the original, Eden, so I am new to this written world of hers. I do have it on my kindle but now with its new makeover I am more than excited to get to it. So with no comparison to the original, I give you this review.
I loved it! It felt real and Mrs. Taylor created a perfectly vivid picture for us readers. I honestly felt like it was me hiding from the Bane and it was my bullet that slipped from my pocket that had created the attention towards us. So yea, this short has some great tension which makes this a fun sitting on the edge read and one where I can't wait to dive head first into the novel of this world.
I don't want to say much more about this as it is short but I will say a few short things. Don't expect much character development as this is just a little piece of the whole puzzle, though I am sure this shines some light onto the novels many mysteries. If you are one of the many bookworms out there that are excited to read The Bane then you most certainly should get this as this is a great little sneak peek to the young dystopian world Mrs. Taylor has created. And finally this most definitely will make you crave to read onto the novel and even the other short, The Ashes, that was taken place before this.
All I can say is that I have many questions, I want to know more about The Bane and their odd quirks, I notice that Mrs. Taylor has grown within her writing and I truly love it when I see a great author be able to do that, and lastly I give this five hearts!
See that title? Best title ever! The Raid by Keary Taylor is exactly what you get, a brief detail of a raid the characters from the Eden Trilogy must go on to survive after “the Bane” has struck the world and few survivors are left struggling against zombie-like creatures, once human whose very bite could kill, or worse, infect the healthy.
This is the perfect fly-on-the-wall peek at the tension, tone and existence for the characters of this series. You will feel what it is like to never be able to relax, what kind of inner strength it takes to trust in yourself and those around you to come out alive.
I absolutely love this trilogy, so, I’m thinking that if Keary Taylor wrote an Eden Trilogy grocery list, I’d read it! Her ability to slam the reader right into the thick of things is astounding!
Series: The Eden Trilogy, Book 0.6 Publication Date: February 24, 2013 Publisher: Keary Taylor Books Genre: Paranormal Fantasy Number of Pages: 11 Available from: Amazon | Barnes & Noble
Post apocalyptic short story. Full of tension. Too short for me to get enough of an idea about the world's setting. Such a rapid close that I'm uncertain about the future of the main characters.
This was the lone book in the Eden series that I had yet to read. But I zipped through it today. It's a fun little kickoff to the series.
The Raid is a very short story. I liken The Raid to a high quality movie trailer in book format. There's just enough to make you want to read more.
In The Raid, we're introduced to Eve and other people from a colony of human survivors. They're on a raiding mission to gather ammunition and supplies when things go wrong...
I'd recommend reading this book followed immediately by The Bane. Seriously, don't wait. As soon as you finish this dig into The Bane because it leads you in nicely.
As a stand alone short story, you're not really going to benefit much from reading it. Obviously, it's hard to develop characters, plot, and give context in only a few thousand words. But as a small piece in a much bigger pie it's a satisfying morsel.
I’ve been wanting to get into the Eden Trilogy for some time. The storyline sounds great and it’s something I’ve wanted to check out. While I haven’t started the trilogy just yet, I thought I was a good idea to throw one of the short stories into my reading pile.
I was pleased to read The Raid, as I feel that it was made me want to read the full novels even more. This story is fairly short, but it does a good job a giving the reader a glimpse into the world of this series.
There are a few characters established, and through that the reader can get a feel for what’s happening now that the world has become a post-apocalyptic wasteland for humans. There’s a new threat in the world, and without mentioning what it is, I thought it was a great mixture of the horror and sci-fi genres.
I’ll be bumping the Eden Trilogy up on my reading list after reading The Raid.
I think I have become obsessed with anything from the Eden Triliogy after only the first book. I had to get this and anything else I could get my hands on. As far as short stories goes this one doesn't have some great reveal to it or make your impression of a character change in the blink of an eye. It is just what the title says, The Raid. It's the telling of the raid that starts off the first book of the series. Quick and efficient. A good read if you are into the Eden triliogy but please do not read this and think that this is how the series is. The series is engrossing and you will not be able to stop reading or thinking about it. This was just filler to me but I had fun reading it. Gave me a small Eden fix for the evening. : )
This was a short prequel to the series, showing our team out gathering supplies and trying to evade capture by The Bane, their robotic enemy. There was the tension of a zombie supply raid in this book so I'm not surprised that I enjoyed it.
I read this book a few years back at the height of my YA dystopia reading, so I added the series to my wishlist. However since then, I am less interested in the genre and I avoid YA books with insta-luv and love triangles so I won't be reading on with the series. If you like that stuff in your YA you might well like the series so try this book free and see what you think.
not sure what to think of this series changing. I am a huge fan of the eden stories and i loved the name the fallen, the bane sounds too technical and unemotional. where is the fallen gives the name some humanity even though they are machines they use to be human. I am still not sure whether i will read the bane or not although keary suggests that to understand the long awaited sequel, for me personally I loved Eden I don't think it should have been changed but I guess I will have to see what the next installment brings.
I must say, this short story gave just enough information to peak my interest in what happens throughout the rest of the series. The intensity was there and the story was short enough to hold the intensity throughout. I had a few issues with the grammar at times, but it was only minor, although the main character did seem a tad bit unfeeling, particularly nearing the end. However, The Raid has definitely grabbed my interest enough to make me want to read the first book in the series and see what happens.
The Raid is a very short prelude to the start of Eden series. Keary Taylor is my newest addition to my list of favorite authors. Upon the start of the House of Royals series I just can not get enough of this author. The Raid is a very short glimpse at this new world of Eden, and it was just enough to tempt the pallet and entice you to crave more. Be on the lookout for the review of Eden to come shortly.
(Source: Downloaded for free from Smashwords.com) This is a really short insight into the world in which this series is set. It's entertaining, and will make you want to read more, but at 6 pages, it is incredibly short, and not much happens. I'd suggest reading 'the bane' instead, unless you manage to pick this up for free. 7 out of 10.
I really wish this story had been a bit longer and had stopped pretty much right before The Bane began, but it was still a perfectly executed piece of fiction in relation to the Eden Trilogy.
