Ratnakar Matkari
59 books155 followersMatkari's first work, the one-act play Wedi Manase,was presented in 1955 on All India Radio in Mumbai.His play Pahuni was presented the next year at another venue.
Matkari worked as a columnist for newspapers and magazines in the 1970s. He wrote the column Soneri Savalya n Apale Mahanagar for four years.
Matkari's 98 works thus far include 33 plays, 8 collections of his one-act plays, 18 books of his short stories, 3 novels, a book of poems for children, and 14 plays and three collections of plays for children.His works include Gudha Katha --mysteries—for adults which maintain realism.Matkari wrote a few plays in Indian languages other than Marathi.Many of Matkari's novellas have been adapted for the stage.

काही वर्षांपूर्वी ऑफ सिझन ला कोळथऱ्याला जाण्याचा योग्य आला होता. दिवसभर गाडी चालवून पोहोचलो, रात्री जेवण झाल्यावर पाय मोकळे करायला म्हणून गावातल्या रस्त्यांवर बाहेर पडलो. मिट्ट काळोख, दर १००-१५० मीटरवर एका सिमेंटच्या खांबावर एक tubelight. जळमटं पाहता, तिच्याच खांबापुरता तिचा प्रकाश. त्यातून कधीही लोडशेडिंग झालं की रस्ता असा काही काळोखात कि विजेरीशिवाय बाहेर पडणं शक्यच नाही. ह्या अश्या काळोखात रात्रीच्या समुद्राच्या गाजेत रत्नाकर मतकरी किंवा नारायण धारप वाचावेत. शहरात दिव्यांच्या अहोरात्र झगमगाटात वाढलेल्या मुलांना डोळ्यात बोट घातलं तरी दिसणार नाही हा शब्दप्रयोग तसा कळायलाही अवघड, जाणीव तर पुढची गोष्ट.
कोकणातल्या भयकथा अश्या रात्रीच्या वेळी छान घावरवून सोडतात. कोकणातल्या वर्णनांमुळे फाशी बखळ परिणामकारक ठरते. हडळ कथेतला पावसाचं वर्णन, फाशी बखळ मधलं रात्रीच्या स्टेशनचं वर्णन अश्यांनी हे पुस्तक नक्कीच लक्षात राहतं. विक्रम मला खरंच दिसतो ही पण एक लक्षात राहील अशी कथा. लहानपणी जितक्या एकाग्रतेने आणि घाबरून ह्या वाचल्या तितका परिणाम आताशा होत नाही. अर्थात, ह्या पेक्षा चांगली त्यांची पुस्तके आहेतच. फाशी बखळ हे थोडं सरळधोपट वाटतं. वर्णनांमधील बारकावे टिपण्यात मतकरी नक्कीच उजवे, पण कथेत अपेक्षित वळणे आणण्यात ह्या कथासंग्रहात ते फारसे यशस्वी झाले नाहीत.
छोटेखानी कथा हे निश्चित केलं की माध्यमाच्याच मर्यादा आड येतात. व्यक्तिरेखांना थोडक्यात पण प्रभावीपणे मांडावं लागतं आणि त्यात कथा भाव खाऊन जाते. ह्या लेखकद्वयींकडून प्रेरणा घेऊन लिहिलेल्या रहस्यात्मक, गूढ अश्या कादंबऱ्या आहेत का हे पाहायला हवं. लहानपणी जे आवडलं तेच आणि तितकंच मोठेपणीही प्रभावशाली ठरणार नाही, ह्याचीही जाणीव झाली.
११२ पानांचं हे छोटंसं पुस्तक एका बैठकीत संपवलं, अनेक वर्षात असं करता आलं नव्हतं, हे एक वेगळं समाधान. पुस्तक वाचनीय जरूर आहे, सहज आणि पटकन संपतं. खूप जास्त आवडण्याची शक्यता कमीच.

मनोरंजक कथा संग्रह
या कथासंग्रहातील या सर्व कथा एकदम मस्त आहेत. या सर्व कथांमध्ये गुढ आणि रहस्य वाचायला मिळते. अगदी आवर्जून वाचावे असे हे पुस्तक आहे. रत्नाकर मतकरी हे माझ्या आवडत्या लेखकांपैकी एक आहेत.
या कथासंग्रहातील या सर्व कथा एकदम मस्त आहेत. या सर्व कथांमध्ये गुढ आणि रहस्य वाचायला मिळते. अगदी आवर्जून वाचावे असे हे पुस्तक आहे. रत्नाकर मतकरी हे माझ्या आवडत्या लेखकांपैकी एक आहेत.

Apart from Fashi bakhal ,I do not like other stories much. Probably I guesses the stories exactly . anyways it was okay okay kind of book . (Note: I have read 4-5 books of ratnakar Matkari prior to this, so is such a reaction). People who are looking to read this book as their first book of this author can go for it. 2 stars are for predictability not to criticize the quality of book.

I devoured this book in two days as it was written by my all time favourite author. Compared to his other short story collections like Khekda & Madhyaratriche Padgham, this book didn't have much scary stories.
