Run Run is on a mission – to travel the whole of China! But, arriving in Beijing on the eve of the Olympics marathon, he gets a little more than he bargained for!
Another tale in the Chinese Calendar series this one featuring the rat. A good fun tale again, as this series is a really nice way at looking at the myths behind the animals of the Chinese calendar. Are they accurate to the original legends? Who knows but they are good fun.
Like all of Sarah Brennan's Chinese Zodiac tales, this one is AMAZING. Combining the characteristics of the "rat" with a bit of Chinese history, geography and folktale, Run Run the rat takes his readers on a journey through China leading to a very satisfying conclusion. The fact that it's a narrative poem just takes it over the top! This, along with Chester Choi are probably Ms. Brennan's most accessible stories for younger readers. Don't miss her action-packed and (without even realizing it) educational stories.
The Tale of Run Run Rat is a heartwarming story about a rat who is searching for fame and fortune and finds it by accident. He is adorable and the story, told in verse, memorable. Children from ages 5-11 will enjoy the story and the comical illustrations bring the events to life. A great addition to a child's bookshelf.
So far my favorite from the Chinese Calendar Tales by Sarah Brennan. I love the connection to the summer olympics. Great read-aloud (even though on the longer side) to start a discussion around the IB Learner Profile. Which traits can you discover? Fabulous illustrations!
Great story in the Calendar Tales series. Our students love this one. Perfect introduction to both the Olympics and the amazing Chinese construction workforce when big events like this happen. Illustrations are superb as usual.
