When Mary Hanon has to go into a leather bar to get keys from her roommate, Ashley, she doesn’t know she is about to have the most amazing sexual experience of her life.
Jackie Meredith has had a crush on Mary ever since she started delivering UPS packages to the law firm where Mary works. She is stunned when she sees Mary in the lesbian leather bar known for sexual promiscuity.
Mary gets cornered by three predatory women in the bar and Jackie comes to her rescue, which leads to an erotic encounter between the two of them.
Mary and Jackie try to ignore each other after the encounter but their attraction to each other is too strong. As their sexual relationship starts becoming romantic, will the two women be able to conquer their fears to have something more.

I really expected to like this more than I did. Sadly this book has a lot of faults. The most obvious being there are lots of spelling and grammar errors. The other thing that baffles me is just how much these characters are based on negative stereotypes. The biggest issue I had however was just how awful these two main characters and one secondary character are.
One of the mains calls the other a dyke thug and on the very first page there's the following line: "...except the women who were married to men. She didn't fool around with women who played both sides of the fence." Who knew being Bi is a bigger offence than being married?
The other main character admitted: "She had to get her out of this bar before she did more stupid shit, like force Mary to f**k her, which she would have done with any other woman." Forcing another woman? Are you frikkin' kidding me?
Then there is the secondary character who is the queen of snobs and thinks because someone is butch they're an illiterate hick among other awful presumptions.
Thankfully this was a short and quick read and supposedly book 2 is better than this one. I'll keep my fingers crossed because this was worse than wet socks or a hangnail or soggy cereal.. you get my point.
Mary and Ashley are roommates and tend to do stuff together. As in work together, go to parties together, etc. Not as in sex. Though both are lesbians - closeted lesbians (more on that later). They just never fancied the other.
After a, to Mary, boring party, Ashley needs to rush to her 'date' and can't take the time to drop Mary off at their apartment (they also share a car on occasion, though both have cars - Ashley just doesn't like Mary's car because it's one of those mini ones that get like 800 miles to the gallon but is the size of a condom), but will drive to the date and turn over the car to Mary to get home. Ashley will catch a ride from there.
Mary is kind of trapped in the passenger seat without a choice, so it's good she's basically okay with this arranagment. Until they go into an interesting area of town. Pass a bunch of biker, and leather bars. And stop at a lesbian leather club (lesbian leather bar? one or the other). Still basically okay. But . . . Ashley forgot to leave the keys.
Mary is forced to either wait in the car or push her way inside the club. She's heckled by some leather wearing women outside (well, heckled might not be the right word, whatever term is used when a construction worker sexually harasses a woman who walks past - the leather women standing outside smoking do that to Mary as she's going inside).
Almost immediately upon entering the super packed club, various people start aggressively hitting on Mary. And by aggressively, I mean seriously. Really aggressive. Might include a little groping.
Mary can't seem to spot her roommate, and asking for a woman wearing basically black while having blond hair causes the bartender to laugh at her then point out everyone out on the floor.
Mary did finally see someone, though, who she recognized - Dyke Thug, or, as she prefers to be called (since it's her actual name and not an insult Mary flung at her earlier that day) Jackie Meredith.
While being basically groped by three women at the bar, Jackie slides in and 'saves' Mary from them. Implying that Mary was there looking for her. The other women tentatively back off while Jackie pulls Mary onto the packed dance floor. Mary's kind of wide eyed starring at some rather obvious activity going on around her while Jackie's asking questions. Jackie learns of Mary's plight - looking for Ashley, and tries to help.
They go back to the back area and Mary finally spots Ashley. On all fours. Licking a woman.
Things proceed from there. Two things to note: considering everything, the 'aggressor/agressee' in the Jackie-Mary situation was both surprising and quite neat; there's more to this story than just erotically graphic sex scenes. Just like Mary has to learn that there's more to Jackie, a reader has to learn that there's more to the book than the cover would suggest (if the reader gave the book time).
Somewhere near the beginning I mentioned something about closeted lesbians and that I'd say more later. Well, apparenty Mary, along with Ashley, belong to a particular class of lesbians that seems more fitting to the 1940s/50s (and possibly 60s/70s) - the closeted professional kind. The kind of lesbian who fears for their job if their sexual orientation is found out by their employers (despite legal safeguards put in place; as . . . someone put at some point in the book, Ashley?, Kentucky is a right to work state (or something like that), meaning that the company can fire at any time for any reason (as long as the reason is legal), so even though there are safeguards, the company could find something else to point at as the reason to dismiss).
This was a fun, exciting book. There's a sequel involving Ashley and her 'friend', but a) I do not really like Ashley and b) the description of that sequel sounds very alarming. So this might be one of my dipping into and then quickly out of a series that I sometimes do. Even when I enjoy the books.
I enjoyed this quick little read. It starts with some pretty intense sex scenes but soon becomes sensual and romantic. I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series.
Was going through my TBR pile and saw Judge Not. I'd read this one about 4 years ago so figured I'd give it a re read before Judge. There's a lot of sexy time in the beginning, it's sorta flipped backwards as far as a normal book goes, but there is actual plot (as well as PLOT). I really liked Jackie in this one. She's cool. Ash (Mary's roommate) got on my nerves a lot but kinda grew on me. Anyway, off on to book 2...
Quick read staring out quite erotic then moved into a more romantic endeavor. Pleasant enough read, glad I did, but nothing too exciting in the areas of character development or plot. I get the small community and conservative homophobia but not being able to be professional especially in a professional environment because of how someone looks just isn’t right.
The Wrong Place at the Right Time was a fast read on a cold afternoon. It is a sweet butch-femme story of an erotic encounter in a bar mixed with romance afterwards, and the main characters are likeable, even though Mary's weird behaviour in the beginning, but the typos that have been left in the book are sometimes a little bit annoying.
Quaint This is the Story of Mary and Jackie. A gentle romance with some truly erotic moments. Set about 10 - 15 years ago, when a person could be fired for being out, this tale revolves around an out and proud butch and a very closeted femme.
This is a likable tale. I was a bit confused about Mary. As far in the closet and afraid to come out as Mary is suppose to be, it seems like she did very little to hide with Jackie came along. Maybe that was part of her process but it happened really quickly with no inner turmoil.
Don't misunderstand me, it was still a good story, I just felt it to be too easy and rushed. It was still a good story to pass an afternoon.
Look for Ms. Tudors follow up book, Judge Not. It is much better!
This was really bad. The story was kind of bland but it might have been okay if it had had a better editor (or any editor at all?). However, the writing was mechanical, the dialogue incredibly stilted, and I had a whole list of other things that annoyed me in the short time it took to read it. I can often overlook bad writing in erotica if it's also essentially hot, but the sex scenes in this book felt very wooden and not at all erotic.
This is a quick read that is erotic and sweet at the same time. Mary is closeted while she ends up falling into lust for Jackie, a butch lesbian. Story is plausible and just enough back story for each character makes you actually like them for more than sex. My UPS drivers never look like Jackie.
Only short, but a good story which was enjoyable - could have done with a bit more depth. Good though, recommended to keep you entertained for a couple of hours.
This was a surprisingly great little book. I have to admit that with that cover, I wasn't expecting a lot, so I was so pleasantly surprised by how fun and sweet this book is. It starts off hot and dirty, but like any great erotic romance, each sex scene built the foundation for their relationship. I was also surprised to see something I've never seen in a lesbian romance and only once in a het romance.
Also, I appreciated the discussions about why Mary and Ashley are so careful to stay closeted at work. It's not something I ever expect from a romance, it was a good reminder that while in many states things are largely better, in other states there's still a long way to go in terms of rights and equality.
Other than the cover, my only major issue is that this book needed another proofread. That said, I paid a dollar for it. At that price, I'm much more willing to forgive a handful of typos.
Like: It ended up a surprisingly sweet romance with good characters that I ended up really liking. Their relationship was very believable. Secondary character Ashley was also well done.
Didn't like: The writing. Sorry to say the writing was poor. Simplistic and not in a good way. Too much telling. The POV switches (sometimes every paragraph) were annoying. There were a few typos. That's okay. Not enough to worry about. Stereotypes - Jackie's butch, so of course she can fix closets and stuff.
I nearly baled due to not enjoying the way the story was told, but I fell for Jackie and Mary and their relationship.
I really can only bring myself to give this story 2 stars - although I will note up front that it is very good value for money - I'd pay $1 again to read this book but not any more.
A sweet little romance and some hot-ish sex scenes emerge, almost despite themselves, from the poor prose and multiple typos throughout this book. Lots of telling not showing, and a very stilted tone.
Points for effort and a readable story but a lot of improvement to do before I'd spend my money on anything else by this author.
Really didn't enjoy this book. Found the whole thing shallow and empty. Poorly written with unimaginative dialogue. The sex scenes were repetitive and crass. Really felt it was a waste of two hours and the typos were also slightly annoying!
This book just didn't flow right to me. I know it's only erotica, but something was missing. It wrapped up into a nice perfect bow when it was anything but.
You’ve got to see this book for what it is (a quick and easy read) and then start reading it. Yes there are some grammatical errors in this book that even I saw (not native English reading), but I chose to not let it bother me. If you can let that go, you can pick up this book. This is also a novella, so don’t expect deep character building. Let me start saying I hate snobbish people in books. So I did not like the bff Ashley in this book. But have to admit she turned around quite good. The book starts with a fast and hot sexual encounter in a leather bar, and from that point on a love story runs its course. I enjoyed it for what it was: a quick and easy love story with no dyke drama.

Great premise, plot, and characters. It had what I needed to read it all the way through. Even the microediting was pretty darn good. It could have used some macro editing, some polish. Maybe a little more showing and less telling. Most of the sex scenes read a little like a police report of sex, I didn't feel like I was immersed in it - which for me was fine since I'm asexual and can take or leave sex scenes, but seeing as hot and heavy semi public sex was the hook that was supposed to get readers invested in what grew into a really sweet love story, I thought those could use a little more work.
Expected a lot of drama at the start, but it wasn’t crazy and over the top like I was thinking it would be. I like the characters, though I do feel there could have been room for better character development (the story is pretty short), especially with the super confusing character Ashley. I just didn’t quite get her, and I’m still curious on who her date was.
Definitely not the story I was expecting after reading the description… but like, wow, was this a really, really, really good book!!
A good, entertaining story with interesting characters & hot sex scenes extremely, very well-written— & an unexpected touch of emotional depth making it feel like more than just fluff. Good for some enjoyable reading?! .
Very intense beginning to a very soft and loving ending. I would've liked a little more leather bar scenes, but that's just me being greedy. It's definitely worth the money to buy.
This book kept my interest the whole time. The story line was amazing and the characters became so real. Great read. Will read again and recommended it to friends. Thank you!!!!
Three stars because it's a quick easy read and it's good. I highly recommend it for those reasons. The characters are loveable and I like that. It has lots of room for development but then it wouldn't be quick or easy.
