A starting point for someone who doesn't have a good idea of the history and current situation of tribals in India. thought the author is very repetitive, material in main text and appendices is about 40% the same, it helps in driving many points home.
Covers historical, cultural, political, economic aspects of the continuous struggle.
It also traces the multiple instances at which 'promises' to the tribal people were broken and how it has been one cause behind the rise of the maoist ideology.
Though tribals are painted in an overly grand and perfect culture picture, after reading what 'civilisation' has done to them - only oppression - one realises that we are not developing them in any way.
