This is book two of An Oak Island Novel series and the main character, Dr Nyla Clark, moved to Oak Island, NC, from Boston, when her best friend offered her a new life and a partnership in the medical practice her father had been about to sell. Now Nyla is running the practice on her own whilst her friend and practice partner is on maternity leave. It has been three years since Nyla left her ex-husband Miles, after being served with divorce papers during an intense period of her career, where she put her work over their marriage and the hours apart soon pulled them in different directions. In the last year, she has finally felt she might be ready to date again, and a stand for the local spring festival will soon have some clamouring for her and an ice cream date with her as a prize from their stall. When a handsome stranger moves into town and saves the local surf shop, he catches her eye. Cohen Sumner is a city man through and through, from a wealthy family, so why he has chosen to invest in this small town is a huge question. He starts to pursue her and tries to get her to date him and even pushes for more, but whilst she finds him attractive, his life of paparazzi in the city, isn’t something she would ever want. What she doesn’t realise, is that Cohen is keeping a huge secret from her and it would change everything!
Nyla has been seeing Cohen for about a month and the spring festival is just a few weeks away, when she thinks she sees Miles in town. As she looks again, she can’t see him and persuades herself that she must have made a mistake. When next she sees someone that looks like him, it actually is! Miles Henley is in town, supposedly for one of his best friend’s bachelor weekend, as he is due to marry shortly. He has chosen activities in the town that might bring him into contact with Nyla, the woman he has never fallen out of love with. When she meets up with Miles, she can’t resist him and gets all of her old feelings for him resurface. He asks her for dinner to talk to her, as he is in the town for a few weeks, visiting different fire departments to do work whilst there. He doesn’t tell her he wants her back, but did ask the husband of her friend, if she was single or not! It seems his timing is really bad, but nothing is as bad or as complicated as the revelation of what Cohen has been hiding from her all this time and why he was really in town to begin with! It is a huge shock and brings her into a triangle with two men vying for her, Cohen her new possible love, and Miles her former love and the one who still has her heart probably. What links them together like family, is even more complicated than she could ever have imagined. Her new love Cohen is lying about something and has fooled Nyla with his attention, doing anything to be with her and keep her in his life. Or so he says! When Miles meets Nyla’s new love, he can’t believe who it is and can’t reveal the truth to Nyla without it hurting his own chances with her! Who Nyla is going to choose soon takes on a difficult path, as a simple dinner becomes so much more. A thoroughly modern romance with a surprising twist! Great fun to read and some great characters I can’t wait to see more of. I received an ARC copy of this book form BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I read an ARC of the first book in this series just before it released and I really enjoyed it! I was excited for this book to release because I knew that it was going to focus on a secondary character from the first book! I then received an ARC of this book and I started reading it straightaway! After reading, I can say that I enjoyed this book just as much as the first book! The plot developed at the perfect pace and it only took me a few sittings to read! I didn’t read the synopsis before reading, so I actually knew nothing about what was going to happen in the plot lol! I enjoyed the plot though and the direction it went in! There was a lot of romance in the plot and a love triangle! There wasn't really any action or suspense, but the love triangle was the main focus of the plot! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Nyla was the main female character, and in this book she had moved to small town to join her best friend to manage their medical practice! I really liked Nyla and she had worked hard to get to where she was! She was easy to connect with as well! Cohen and Miles were both the male characters and love interests of Nyla! I actually liked both guys at certain points of this book and then one of them started to show their true colours and changed everything lol! Both guys were also different! Cohen had a lot of money and was well known! He also hanged things for Nyla! Miles was the ex-husband of Nyla! It was easy to see that Miles still had deep feelings for Nyla and they deserved a second chance! This book was written from both Nyla, Cohen and Miles point of views! I was kind of expecting it to be written from all the characters point of views because the first book was written this way! I loved that it was written this way because it helped me connect more with all three characters and see how they really felt about each other! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as Nyla, Cohen and Miles did go through some situations by themselves and they didn’t spend every second of the plot together! I now can’t wait to read the next book in this series! Well, I’m hoping that there’s going to be more books! I’m not sure if there will be because I couldn’t find any information at the end of this book and nothing on Goodreads! I really hope there will be more books and I would definitely read them! The cover for this book is also very pretty and would draw me to the book if I didn't already know the author's name! I love how well it suits the cover for the first book and it suits the small town feel of the plot! Big thank you to L.P. Dover for an ARC of Beginnings by the Sea!

Beginnings by the Sea (An Oak Island Novel Book 2) by L.P. Dover is an emotional journey through loss, self discovery, and learning to trust again. Oak Island is such an amazing place with incredible characters! I would love to relocate there just like Nyla did. Leaving everything that was familiar to her back in Boston, she takes a leap, following her best friend Everleigh to Oak Island. While in Oak Island, she’s able to take the time to evaluate her life, what she likes, what she wants for her future, and make new friends. This was something she was unable to do while an emergency room doctor in the city.
Nyla is a great doctor, always willing to help others. Unfortunately, it was that determination and drive which damaged her marriage to Miles. Feeling like he had no other choice, Miles made the biggest mistake of his life. He hadn’t really believed the divorce would go through. He had only intended it to be a signal to Nyla that they both need more out of their relationship.
What was supposed to be a weekend reunion and a way to reconnect with Nyla, Miles is confronted with a familiar nemesis. Cohen’s relationship with Nyla will test Miles patience. But, he has promised to give Nyla the space she needs. At the same time, Cohen will try to influence Nyla to questioning her trust in Miles.
Beginnings by the Sea is an amazing story about second chances. I loved seeing Nyla discover more about herself and being willing to try new things. As Miles who seem to know Nyla better than she knew herself pointed out, he’d “always tried to get her to make new flavors, but she was always too tired from work to even consider it. That woman wasn’t the same one sitting before me.”
I’m glad that Miles took a chance to follow Nyla to Oak Island. He needed to see if they were truly finished. Between Cohen and Miles, Nyla chose the best man for her.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. I love reading a L.P. Dover work. And while this is part of a series, it can stand alone. It’s an amazing series full of incredible charm and twists!

This is book two in An Oak Island Series and it is Nyla’s story. When Nyla’s marriage ends she knew that she had to get away and start over somewhere else so that she could move forward with her life and that is how she ended up in Oak Island where her best friend Everleigh had a medical practice and Nyla went in as her partner and then she met Cohen and things started to fall in to place but what she didn’t know is that Cohen had a big secret from her and if it is revealed it could tear apart everything that they had built together. When Nyla’s ex husband Miles shows up in Oak Island after them not seeing each other for three years it completely throws a spanner in the works and her life turning her life upside down and into complete chaos especially when she never stopped loving Miles so know her life had just got even more complicated and she doesn’t know what to do without someone getting hurt or there hearts broken especially her. This book takes you on a rollercoaster journey along with twists and turns that will have you turning the pages to see what would happen next and what the outcome would be for them all in the end. I can’t wait to read the next book in this addictive series.

I am packing my bags and headed to Oak Island. The sea, sun, sand and a great escape was what Nyla, Miles and Cohen gave me with a bit of a twist. Nyla was an ER doctor in Boston but when her marriage ended in divorce, she needed a fresh start. He friend needed a partner in a beach town practice, and this was her chance at a new beginning. When her and Miles separated it was because she worked to much it was never because she didn't love him but now, she is here, and a fresh new suitor is on her doorstep. Cohen is a big city businessman that has just bought a shop here in town and is making his intentions known to the lovely Nyla. Is it fate or a strange coincidence that her ex-husband is in now in town for his best friend's wedding. Miles never stopped loving his wife but when her job took over their life, he thought divorce papers would be her wakeup call but she just signed them thinking that is what he wanted. Now is time for a second chance but they have one small problem and Cohen isn't backing away without a fighting chance. This was a great adventure with a few unexpected twists and turns! Is a second chance in Nyla's future or is it a fresh start on the horizon!

Nyla visits her friend Eveleigh in Oak Island in the first book. Now she moved here to co-own a family practice with Eveleigh after her failed marriage to start over. Nyla and Miles's marriage ended because Nyla worked too many hours in the ER and never had time for Miles. She will always love him, but it's time to move on. She meets a new guy in town, Cohen, and he just might be the guy she starts over with. Miles shows up in town after three years of not seeing him. What happens now between Cohen and Nyla now that Miles is back in the picture?
This is a very interesting story that takes a surprising turn. I really love Cohen so when her ex-husband Miles enters the picture I had a hard time rooting for him. I wanted Cohen to be the one for Nyla but any new guy you've known a month is hard to compare to someone you were married to and loved. I don't want to give away what happens because there are a lot of surprises that you might not see coming and I don't want to ruin it for you. It is a good book that I really loved reading. I really loved the first book compared to this one. But this one is a very good read.

After reading the first book, I knew instantly Nyla would get her story. I anxiously anticipated this story and it did not disappoint. When Nyla moves to the shores of North Carolina from Boston to help her bestie in a family practice, her life gets interesting. She meets Cohen who becomes a new love interest. Miles, her ex, comes to town for a wedding and so begins a love triangle!! That was a great read and such a sweet story with a few curveballs. ~Helen

L.P. Dover is a relatively new author to me but what I have read I have enjoyed. However after reading Beginnings By The Sea I will be looking at other books by this author as soon as time permits.
Oak Island, NC sounds like a wonderful place to be based and I was drawn into the magic of this small town. Nyla Clark has started a new life after her divorce in Oak Island and it looks as though she has found new love with Cohen Summer. From the moment Cohen met Nyla, he was drawn to her but he has secrets, ones that need to stay secret.
Such was the descriptive writing I could easily see myself on Oak Island. The friendship between Nyla and Everleigh also added another layer to the story.
However, when Nyla’s ex Miles Henley turns up, complication arise and secrets are revealed? Will it bring them together or rip them apart? Will Miles convince Nyla to give him another chance or will Cohen win her heart?

Nyla came to Oak Island for a fresh start after getting divorced, and her life takes off with the practice taking off, plus a new man on top of that. Cohen is amazing for her, but he's got a secret with the power to derail what they're building when it comes out, and we all know secrets tend to come out no matter what. Her new life gets dicey when her ex-husband comes to town, and now she has a triangle going on since she still has feelings for the ex. Normally I'm not one for a love triangle because I get so frustrated, but I don't read the blurbs to anything this author releases anymore because I'll always love the story no matter what. I will say that a love triangle is even more frustrating when the two men are decent to where I see the point of both, and that's what happened here, however, there's more complications to come which had me turning the pages like crazy. I don't want to get into any more detail since it's so much better to just experience it for yourselves, especially since Oak Island is a great place to go to get a break from life! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

If you read book 1 of the Oak Island series, you met Nyla, the divorce ER Doctor who has moved to Oak Island to start a private practice with her best friend. (This is book 2 of the series but can be read as a standalone - however I Highly recommend reading Hide Away by the Sea first). After her divorce Nyla threw herself into working even more hours just to survive the hurt. But after visiting her former colleague who moved to Oak Island, Nyla knew she needed a change. She even met a wonderful man, Cohen, a rich man who also needed a change away from the hustle and bustle of NY. But a month into dating Cohen, she runs into her ex, Miles, who is in Oak Island for a bachelor weekend party. Both men stir things in Nyla, both men want her. But when secrets come out, which way will Nyla go?
This was an outstanding read that broke my heart in places and melding it together in others. Kudos Ms. Dover for giving us an amazingly romantic read.

I haven’t read the first book in the series and after reading Beginnings By The Sea I’m struggling to understand why. I will certainly be picking up the first book as soon as time permits. I have fallen hard and fast for the town of Oak Island, NC and it’s residents and it feels like the perfect place for me to retire too.
Nyla Clark has moved to Oak Island to start afresh after her divorce and from the moment she meets Cohen Summer sparks fly, there is a instant attraction but he has secrets and is it all to soon for Nyla to find love again and what happens when her ex turns up in town…..One click to find out what the future holds for Nyla and Cohen.
Oak Island is a magical place and from the moment I picked this book up I knew this was going to be a very special read. This book has it all, it has wonderful characters and a wonderful storyline but what took this book to another level was the friendships the residents of this Island share. This is the second book in the series. They can be read as standalone books. Nyla is in the first book but the stories aren’t overly connected. Nyla got divorced two years ago. She is finally ready to move forward and take her life in a simpler, slower direction. She is now Everleigh’s partner. A chance meeting has Nyla beginning a new relationship with a man named Cohen. Then out of the blue Nyla’s ex-husband is in town. For a bachelor weekend with friends then staying on for some classes he is teaching. Things aren’t as they seem. Both men have secrets they are keeping from her. Both want her. What will happen when all the secrets are revealed? This book was slowing moving for me. The characters were good but I had trouble continuing to read it. In the beginning I was pulling for Cohen. After all you get divorced for a reason. But, then as things were revealed I liked him a lot less. Nyla is a great character. Great job L.P. Dover.

This is the second book in this new series and after meeting Nyla in the first book I was really looking forward to reading her story and LP Dover did not disappoint me! I devoured this in an evening.
After her divorce Nyla has given up her hectic life as an ER doctor in Boston and followed her best friend back to Oak Island to live a more relaxed lifestyle and honestly I adored watching her blossom in this new town.
When she meets Cohen she decides she is ready to date again and really enjoys spending time with him. That is until her ex-husband Miles unexpectedly turns up in town and she is forced to face the fact that their connection is still strong. She needs to choose between her past with Miles and her possible future with Cohen.
This is a well written story from LP filled with friendships, secrets, second chances, steam and love making this a serious page turner and I cannot wait to read more in this series.

This is Nyla and Miles' book.
Nyla is Everleigh's best friend and newest partner in her practice in Oak Island. She relocated from Boston's Mass Gen ER to the idyll of OI.
She's divorced but never got over her ex-husband Miles.
Miles is a firefighter and he couldn't forget his ex-wife either. So he's up and - sorry not sorry no spoilers here. Only so much, there's a second love interest and to be honest I was rooting for him rather for Miles. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
An intriguing read, well written goes from perfect to complicated to sappy and back to perfect. 4,5 stars.

Miles is a firefighter and he couldn't forget his ex-wife either. So he's up and - sorry not sorry no spoilers here. Only so much, there's a second love interest and to be honest I was rooting for him rather for Miles. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
An intriguing read, well written goes from perfect to complicated to sappy and back to perfect. 4,5 stars.

This series just keeps getting better and better. Beginnings by the Sea is a second chance love story that grips your heart and has you on the edge of your seat. Nyla moves to Oak Island to start fresh after a failed marriage. Just as life seems to be moving on, her past comes crashing back and feelings that never truly went away rise to the surface. Nyla's story takes you on one amazing ride and is filled with plenty of surprises. This is a story that holds you captive and will not let you go. You will find yourself holding your breath and waiting for the unexpected as the story takes a few twists and turns.

Another great story set in Oak Island by L.P. Dover. This was a fast read. We met Nyla In Hide Away but now it is her turn for love. Nyla's story is a second chance, love triangle that will surprise you.
Miles and Nyla have always had a connection even after their divorce. Miles finds Nyla on Oak Island with a plan to win back his ex-wife.
Cohen and Nyla heat up over a month but something is holding Nyla back from filling giving herself to him.
Of course it gets complicated. Miles is all swoony and Cohen a little too "slick". I was on Team Miles from the beginning but getting them together was a work of patience and angst. I really enjoyed this story.

Beginnings by the Sea is a delightful, contemporary romance. This is the second book in this series but it can be read as a stand-alone. Although Nyla was featured in the first book she was only a secondary character. This is her story.
Nyla finds herself unexpectedly caught up in a love triangle between her past love and her present one. Secrets, lies and trust are at the heart of this well-written story. The characters are wonderful and the author steers the story well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

This is the second book in this incredible series. After her divorce Nyla moves to Oak Island for a fresh start, and she works hard to have her thriving medical practice. Cohen is the town hero, and from the moment he sees Nyla, he wants her. When Nyla’s ex-husband Miles, arrives in town, secrets are revealed, who will Nyla chose between her past and the present?
This is a well written story which is a love triangle, with emotions, secrets, truths, lies, trust, making choices, romance, second chances, and love, which leads to an entertaining, twisted, unpredictable, and steamy addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I need to move to Oak Island. The author has painted the perfect small town. I swear I could smell the ocean. I want to sit in the sand and watch the hunky surfers. I want to shop in all of the darling boutiques and art galleries. I want to live in one of their quaint beach cottages. Most of all I want to be considered a native. I wanted to be accepted with open arms like Everleigh's friend, Nyla.
Nyla moves to Oak Island to mend a broken heart. After divorcing Miles; she immersed herself in her job. Unfortunately, spending all of her waking hours at a Boston ER wasn't doing the trick.
She takes a gamble and follows Everleigh to Oak Island. She finds peace sharing a medical practice with Everleigh. It is time to pick up the pieces and begin again. It is time to finally say goodbye to Miles.
Cohen has perfect timing. He bumps into Nyla at a diner and they just click. He has become the town hero, saving Freddy's Surf Shop. Now he wants to save Nyla. Get ready to be swept off your feet as Cohen works his magic. He knows what he wants and he wants Nyla. Heart palpitations.
The story gets really interesting when Nyla bumps into Miles. He is the last person she expected to see in Oak Island. Nyla soon finds herself stuck in an awkward situation--wanting two men. This is one love triangle with lots and lots of drama. I am so happy I wasn't in Nyla's position although it made for a great read. Her life became very interesting. I loved living vicariously through Nyla, it never got boring.
Oh my goodness! I can't believe what happened. Chapter after chapter; I found myself shocked into silence. I couldn't wait to turn the page to see what happened next. The unexpected left me speechless. I have to admit I just didn't see it coming. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat. The last few chapters were real nail biters. The author completely pulled the story out from under me.
Nyla has to jump through a lot of hoops to get her happily ever after. I wasn't sure it would happen. The happily ever after in Beginnings by the Sea is one I won't soon forget.

This book makes me want too move to Oak Island. Nyla is still not over her ex but meeting Cohen could change that. Just when Nyla is ready to see where it goes with Cohen, Miles Nyla ex is back for round 2. The love and chemistry between Miles and Nyla is undeniable. The twists, wow I didn’t see that coming at all. This story and the characters had me completely hooked. Definitely a second chance romance that everyone should one-click.

Nyla is finally ready to get back to dating when she meets charming and handsome Cohen. After being with Cohen a month she unexpectedly runs into her ex-husband Miles. The yearning she feels when seeing him makes her wonder if their divorce was a mistake. Pick up this book to see how it all plays out. You won’t be disappointed!!

4 1/2 stars for me. I enjoyed this reunion story. Nyla's heart was owned by one man, though she thought that she screwed up her happiness after hurting him. She tried to move on in her new town. Surprise, her ex, Miles, came looking for her, and feelings and connections were still there. Nyla was a strong character and trusting. Miles was honest and open, and determined. Throw in some secrets, a rivalry/family feud, and friends, and this was a wonderfully strong story.

Nyla was over her old life and wanted a change. She met her best friend and fell in love with their small town. Once the ink had dried she was so excited to start her new beginning. After meeting for dinner with friends she hear a voice that she had no clue would bring so many memories back. Miles was with his friends on a bachelor weekend. He has ulterior motives that no one knew about. He will do anything it cost to find Nyla again. Will someone else already have the spot though?

Nyla sees Miles after her divorce and it brings back all the feels. Her heart is still beating for Miles but she is not sure if she can go back and what about Cohen.
Miles is determined to get Nyla back and he will do anything to get her back. When he finds out who Nyla was dating, everything gets more complicated for all three of them.
