Parang
Parang is the second collection of poetry from former Australian Poetry Slam winner Omar Musa. Written over four years, the collection explores Malaysian jungles, dark Australian streets, and dreams. Dealing with the issues of loss, migration and belonging, Parang is an incisive and sometimes raw lok at the here and now of a changing world.

Parang has some of my favourite poems in it that has put this book into one of my all time favourites. 'My Generation' and 'Fireflies go down as to of my favourite poems that I come back to time and time again. Musa did well to get this collection of poems up and published. It is fresh, new, modern and wonderfully complex.

Omar is a talented poet, his ability to fashion words together so dramatically and powerfully makes his book a fantastic read. I have only given it three stars as poetry is not a common interest or read for me.

An amazingly consistent collection. Traversing spaces, both internal and external. Malaysia and Australia. How the influences of two (and more) places affect a person. Love the way Musa’s language and approach range from gentle, heartfelt loveliness to hip-hop infused fierceness.
