I can do that. I can pretend it didn’t happen. But when he’s standing this close to me, I can’t deny I want to kiss him again.
Abbie Linley loves her small-town life. Leaving for college may be the next step for her friends, but she’s not ready to walk away from the horses. She’d happily keep her world the same, but everything around her seems to be changing.
Starting with her gruff, new farrier.
Carson Daniels’s only job is to shoe horses, but he gets more than he bargained for when he shows up at the Linley’s barn. The last thing he needs is to get distracted by the owner’s beautiful daughter—even if she’s the only good thing he can say about Florida.
It would never work. She has a boyfriend. And he’s leaving.
Between his dry sense of humor and her ever-growing realization that her boyfriend isn’t all he’s cracked up to be, Abbie and Carson can’t seem to stay away from each other.
Abbie thought she had realistic expectations about love. Carson went and raised the bar on all of them. She would never ask him to stay for her. He won’t ask her to go with him. But they’ll make the most of the time they have left.
It’s only one summer, but maybe that’s okay—maybe they can put it all behind them.
Or maybe it will fuel a love they could never forget.

Make Your Move is an absolutely adorable small-town romance that flowed so well. This is my introduction to Heather Garvin and I am super excited to explore her other books. The story follows Abbie, a recent high school graduate who is content to live and work at her family's ranch instead of going to college or moving away like her friends. She spends her days mucking out stalls, taking her horse Sully for rides, and hanging out with her boyfriend and his obnoxious friends. When she meets Carson, who is helping out around the ranch, they instantly click and become fast friends. However, when her boyfriend sees issue with her being friends with Carson, Abbie quickly begins to realize just how poorly her boyfriend treats her. As a result of her strained relationship, Abbie and Carson become even closer; and soon their friendship deepens. However, both are reluctant to pursue more as Carson is planning to move back home soon and Abbie doesn't want him to settle.
The first 30 pages or so made me think this was going to be high school-esque with the gossiping friends and juvenile relationships, however, Carson and Abbie were so mature and healthy for each other. The strangers to friends to lovers trope worked so well with how the story and their love unfolded, both of them were so sweet and understanding. Don't even get me started on the tension and banter, the resulting dash of spice was perfect!
~I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Make Your Move has captured that feeling of young love and navigating that uncertain transition between high school and becoming an adult. This is a sweet summer romance with loads of tension before the giving-in and sprinkles of drama, as well as the risk of giving your heart to someone that may not be able to stay.
I really liked the story and the main characters, Abbie (h) and Carson (H). I did feel that Abbie was mature, but still with growing pains happening where she acted young still. Which fit since she's just graduated from high school, has had her best friend leave for college early, while also in love with her first boyfriend, but having doubts about their future. Carson enters the scene as a new worker on Abbie's mom's ranch in Florida and they slowly develop a friendship. He's only there temporarily though before he returns to his life in Tennessee. At the same time, drama is unfolding in Abbie's relationship that also filters down into her hobby of competing at horse shows, and the temptation of something between her and Carson becomes greater. The whole story takes place over the summer, although the timeline was confusing to me in places. I wasn't sure if days or weeks had passed sometimes. Written in first person, single POV of h's. No ow drama (although the H is hit on in front of the h, he's not interested), om drama from h's boyfriend who she begins the book dating, and neither are virgins (h had only been with her ex and I don't recall history for the H).
The story is overall lighter, but with pops of angst throughout. Carson is grumpy and reserved at first, but does open up. He's also protective and supportive of Abbie, initially as a friend and then as more. This does have a forced proximity feel in places because Carson is doing work around the ranch while Abbie is doing her own tasks so at times they're practically tripping over each other at every turn. There's also a scene with one bed and a "touch her and get what's coming" moment (no dying so I adjusted the wording lol). I liked the steamy scenes and the slow burn to get there. The scenes of Abbie and Carson talking about his eventual leaving were also heart aching, just like they're meant to be.
The supporting cast was a little smaller with Abbie's mom, Carson's dad, a trainer, Abbie's BFF (via phone), and of course her ex and his group of people. Abbie's mom and Carson's dad were great and I liked that both Abbie and Carson had had complicated relationships with their parents in different ways. I do wish that Abbie's BFF had made it on page in person and that the drama with her ex had been toned down a little. It did play a role in moving some parts of the story along, but he was so immature and I felt like even when he suffered consequences, he didn't learn from them.
The ending is a HFN with an epilogue 6 months in the future that was sweet. They exchange I love you's and it was a warm and fuzzy feel. Normally I love my epilogues extended but given how young they were and the rest of the book, I think this fit more naturally. I do think that the ages of these characters and that young love feel may not be for all of my friends, but it made me reminisce and gave me a glowy feeling.
This is the first book written by Heather Garvin that I read, and I really enjoyed it.
“ You've ruined me, you know that?- he murmurs against my ear.”
Right at the beginning of the story, when Seth appeared, I already knew I wasn't going to like him. As the story developed, I couldn't wait for Abbie to break up with him. On the other hand, Carson was a hit. It was a very well written character. I love a man of few words who knows how to show his affection with actions.
The story between Abbie and Carson made me feel like a teenager again. Living a summer romance, when it has a deadline to end, I really liked how this was developed.
It is a good read, and I recommend this book.
Thank you, NetGalley and Heather Garvin, for this ARC.
i’m not a fan of cowboys and horses and all that. but i loved this book so much. it was super enjoyable and i loved the characters a whole bunch. it truly was just a five star read for me. no flaws. insanely quick and easy to get through. just cute small town lovey vibes and i ate it up.
abbie is a cute little horse girly living her perfect country girl life with her perfect fancy boyfriend when someone new comes to the small town to help get some work done and ends up stirring everything up!
1. i will love any book based in florida just a lil bit more bc it makes the book so much more fun and relatable as a florida gal. like what do you mean y’all can hang out in lakeland??? let me join you!! 2. i love a story where the main male character radiates “touch her and i’ll kill you” energy. we all deserve our own carson’s to beat up our ex boyfriends. 3. on that note, i will always appreciate the trope of finding the perfect man immediately after breaking up with a shitty boyfriend. and i ESPECIALLY love it when said shitty boyfriend already knew you would become involved with perfect man, was previously jealous about it, and warned you about said perfect man. 4. the way they said i love you for the first time while looking at the mountains over a balcony on 80 acres of farmland in tennessee????? love that
This is the third book of hers that I have read and I feel that this one is the most emotional one I’ve read yet. It did not have the subtle funny hints as the other novels but it was so incredibly romantic it left me begging for more. I love both main characters so much. I love how Carson is a protector and only has a soft spot for her. He’s got tunnel vision in the best way possible and such a maturity and self-esteem, it’s incredible. As for Abbie, I connected so much to her, in such a deep way! Her inner monologue is something i would have myself. She’s adorable, a fighter and a cutie, I want to be friend’s with her so bad. This author has never disappointed me before and this book just shows it!
Super cute and the whole time I kept thinking this would be such a good new adult rom-com movie! The setting was fun with it being on a ranch but I wouldn’t label it a cowboy romance. The only animals here are horses. I liked the progression the relationship took and the conversations had between the main characters. Overall a fun and quick read!
🐎 set on a ranch 🤍 strangers to lovers 👥 close proximity 🛏️ only one bed
* ARC review via NetGalley, all opinions are my own * I’m currently in my cowboy era after reading the chestnut spring series and I’m so glad this book didn’t deter me away from my high. if you're looking for a short small-town (I guess workplace?) romance read, this is a good shout. * I read this book in one-sitting and whilst I haven’t read any of Heather’s work previously, this was a great impression of her quality of work. * I liked the writing style, it wasn’t too tacked on to modern-day references or ornately cheesy when there’s a cute moment between the two protagonists *The book follows Abbie Lyndam and new boy working at the ranch, Carlson who end up developing a fondness for each other that turns into something greater * Abbie and Carlson are two peas in a pod, they’re “outsiders” and on the outside they’ve managed to find each other. Where Abbie has struggles, Carlson is ready to help her through them, which makes the pair a great example of what they highs of a relationship should envision. * While there isn’t objectively wrong with the book, I just wanted more from it, I wanted more depth within Abbie and Carlson’s relationship, it felt fast-paced in that regard. Carlson was too 'perfect' and where Abbie had complexities to deal with, I found it harder to picture Carlson to be realistic. Although there were some mentions of Carlson's past, I wanted the book to showcase that. That's where I find the passion was lacking, because Carlson's character was a little mundane. *I just wished for more conflict to overcome within the relationship or without a third party character to blame. *Please take my preferences for conflict and 'flawed' characters with a grain of salt, considering my affliction towards imperfect characters and conflict resolution * Overall a great read, and something enjoyable if you want a small-town/ cowboy romance
Okay where to begin?? For starters, I absolutely loved this book and can easily give it 5 stars! I’ll have to admit this is the first book I’ve read that was about horses and Equestrianism. I think this is the perfect summer romcom. If you’re looking for something that has good banter, a grumpy/brooding male main character and a tension filled longing with a slow burn then this is the book for you. The pace of the book was perfect for the amount of pages it had as well as for the plot of it. It is also an open door romance 🌶🌶
This was my first ARC book and I absolutely loved it. I finished it within 3 days because I couldn’t put it down.I loved the setting of a farm and the love story it entailed. Throughout the book I felt ALL the emotions from anger to all the butterflies and the pain Abbie felt. I was able to feel the heart ache in the last chapters and the happiness at the very end. If you enjoy love stories, this one is an easy read and really gets you invested.
✿ I received a free eARC from the author of this book. All opinions are my own and voluntarily so.Thank you! ✿
✨️ 𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑠/𝑛𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑠: • equestrian summer romance • brooding mmc • one bed • open door romance with few 🌶 scenes that sizzles! • good amount of drama, it was executed tastefully! • set in a small town on a horse farm • mention of The Vampire Diaries ❤️

“You’ve ruined me, you know that?” he murmurs against my ear..”
Heather Garvin strikes again with another amazing read-it-in-one-sitting kind of book.
She delivered and met my expectations and let me tell you they were high after I read 'Crossing The Line' from her which is one of my favorites (it still wins but this book held it's own too)
Make Your Move was beautifully written. It had great tropes,a good story, fun and depth filled characters, good amount of drama and definitely that sweet tension and chemistry.
Abbie and Carson are lovely together and their relationship felt real. Whenever I read Heather's work she transports you into the story and the characters and you don't want to leave until you finish it.
Also love that her work doesn't drag or get boring. She gets to the point with her books being under 300 pages. So it's perfect for you to dive into and consume!
And the fact that she mentions tvd,Salvatore brothers and Ian Somerhalder like Heather knows what's up!
So saddle up and ride on into this equestrian farrier x horse girl romance!
I was given an ARC for an honest review..I have read all of Heather's books and they NEVER disappoint! This one was no different, and it was such a fun summer read! I highly recommend reading in a summer cabin with woods or mountains as your backdrop! Lol
Abbie is the stubborn girl we all have a little bit of on the inside, once she breaks down her walls the emotion is so raw! I was laughing and crying at times.. ugh!! And on top of that I've got such a craving to go horseback riding and maybe even muck a stall- especially with a view of a "sexy cowboy" 🤣
Spice: 🔥🔥🔥 (perfect amount imo)
Kudos Heather, this was SO fun! & So YOU! 👏👏

Although I don't ride myself, I've always found horses to be such majestic animals, and have always been captivated by the sport itself, so I enjoyed that the story's primary setting was a horse farm. 🏇The writing is also smooth, and I realised that because it can often be overwhelming, I prefer simple writing styles as compared to very fancy ones.
Abbie's love for horses and commitment to her goals is so admirable, I love how she didn’t give up on her dream despite Seth's constant criticism (who I'm so glad she got rid of since he makes my blood boil). Carson me swoon HARD throughout the story. 😮💨 He may seem a little closed off, but you can see how much he cares for Abbie from the way he treats her and the fact that he always knows exactly what to say to her. 🥺
My favourite scene was definitely when they were riding together - the fact that he trusted her enough to give horse riding another go all these years later since his mother’s passing was the turning point in their relationship.
I like how the author took her time to develop a sense of trust and a relationship between the two characters, it was well worth the wait and i really enjoyed the book overall! 🫶🏻
A big thank you to NetGallery and Tuscan Publishing for trusting me with this ARC!

This is the first book I've ever read by Heather Garvin. I found the beginning to be a little tough to get into, but once I was hooked, it was a page turner! I think this would be a delightful summer read for anyone and I wholeheartedly recommend.
My rating: 4.5 stars
Big thanks to Heather Garvin and NetGalley for this ARC!
**spoilers**
I found it frustrating to read about how Seth treated Abbie, while she seemed a bit clueless to the mistreatment. Seth's character was written as a spoiled immature entitled prick and it was successful because I hated him. Thank goodness Carson came along when he did and swooped Abbie off her feet. I really enjoyed this sweet young love story and while I am not by any means an equestrian expert, I enjoyed reading about Abbie and Carson's touching relationships with horses.
I think Heather Garvin did an excellent job building and growing Abbie and Carson's characters as well as their relationships with their family and one another.
Thank you so much Heather Garvin for this ARC. This was a super sweet story about young love, set on a horse farm.
I found the beginning super frustrating, though it was well written. I just couldn't stand hoe clueless Abbie was about Seth, because he SUCKED! Then Carson comes in all broody, but so kind and thoughtful.
Also I love a story with good consent. Even if it was mostly silent in this story, it was still noted, and I always appreciate that in a romance.
I don't read a lot of horse themed books, but this was a fun change of pace, and I enjoyed it. I took riding lessons as a kid, but it's been a long time since I rode a horse. This story made me miss it.
If you like young love, broody men, horses, men who don't mind getting dirty... this was a fun fast read.
I've always thought horse riding was such an elegant, classy sport. So, getting to be an ARC reader for Make Your Move was such a treat!
When Abbie meets Carson, it was love at first sight... for ME! There's just something about a guy who uses very little words, yet says so much through facial expressions and body language! Carson is freaking hot!
I liked Abbie too, even more so when she gets rid of the dung pile that stinks up her world.
There is sexual tension, and there are steamy (literally steam!) scenes, we feel the slow burn so much we are yelling for them to hurry up and change lanes so they can get in the fast lane, there's heartbreak, so much family loyalty, a man with a past, horses, strength and it's guaranteed to make you smile!
Garvin just keeps upping her game, and I'm hooking my line to her bumper so I can catch every book she throws my way!
This is the third book of hers that I have read and I feel that this one is the most emotional one I’ve read yet. so happy to have received this ARC via netgalley! 🫶
3.5/5 ⭐️ 2/5 🌶️ tropes: grumpy x sunshine, one bed, friends to lovers, equestrian romance
this was a very cute book! there were a lot of fun moments between the MCs within their relationship building and being an equestrian myself, i loved all the horse content 🥰🐴
i did think the writing could have been a bit better in places and i do wish the story would have taken place over more time & was a bit more realistic, but overall i had a great time reading & would recommend!
Make Your Move was an adorable book that left me feeling rather nostalgic. It took me back to hot summer days spent in Florida with my friends and latest crush.
In my opinion, late teens/early 20s should definitely read it to see the difference between the Seth's and the Carson's of the world. This was such a sweet story.
I just finished it and my heart is overflowing, it's a cute romance, full of horses, beautiful moments and two characters that were made for each other. Thanks to Heather for ARC, I loved every moment of it.
**I received an ARC in exchange for an HONEST review of this book**
I devoured this book in one day; it would have been one sitting if I didn’t have stupid obligations. Heather Garvin has written Abbie and Carson to be one of those book couples who would definitely get married, live a long happy life, and die together while holding each other’s hands. They’re that perfect, even if they’re just out of high school.
Carson is in Florida for a few weeks to help his Dad out with his Farrier business. Horrible, sweaty, Florida. Then he’ll get to go back to Tennessee, back to his regular life, back to his home. However, the more he gets to know Abbie Linley the more he’s not so sure where his home is anymore.
Abbie Linley is one of those girls who’s content with her life, as long as she gets to be around horses. She knows her boyfriend, Seth, will probably break up with her at the end of summer when he goes off to University, and she stays home to help her mom with the Barn. She knows she’s out of his league and is just enjoying the ride while it lasts. And deep down, she knows he is a bad boyfriend.
That’s why, the moment Carson enters the barn for the first time, he becomes a catalyst for everyone.
And thank Heather Garvin he does because the buildup to the inevitable of this romance is pure perfection. From the moment Carson enters the picture, their connection ignites with an instantaneous spark. Carson's stark contrast to Seth serves as a strong reminder of what Abbie should seek in a partner—he shows her that money isn’t what determines ones worth. Meanwhile, Abbie's character resonates easily as her internal dialogue leads us to her conclusions about who she desires and why. Abbie and Carson’s witty and flirtatious banter made me fly through the pages, and left me stuck in smile mode. Garvin's skillful portrayal of their conflict resolution, although possibly unrealistic for college freshmen in reality, effortlessly suspends disbelief, allowing me to giggle like a schoolgirl at their playful, yet wise, exchanges. They held space for each other to make mistakes, to stumble and grow, while cherishing moments of vulnerability and nurturing their sweet connection. Together, they discover what love actually is.
This book has earned a place in my rainy day pile for when I need a feel romance featuring a slightly grumpy & sunshine couple, or a quick escape from a reading slump. I highly recommend this read!
This was adorable! As a lover of horses, I just needed to get to this book. The cover alone just convinced me to request it on NetGalley and pick it up and I’m very happy that I did. This story is about Abbie and Carson and they’re so cute as characters. They both love horses (like live horses) and the small-town vibes are IT! It reminded me so much of the Chestnut Springs and Rebel Blue Ranch series. It’s perfect for fans of those books.
Let me give you the little synopsis:
I can do that. I can pretend it didn’t happen. But when he’s standing this close to me, I can’t deny I want to kiss him again.
Abbie Linley loves her small-town life. Leaving for college may be the next step for her friends, but she’s not ready to walk away from the horses. She’d happily keep her world the same, but everything around her seems to be changing.
Starting with her gruff, new farrier.

It would never work. She has a boyfriend. And he’s leaving.
Between his dry sense of humor and her ever-growing realization that her boyfriend isn’t all he’s cracked up to be, Abbie and Carson can’t seem to stay away from each other.

It’s only one summer, but maybe that’s okay—maybe they can put it all behind them.
Or maybe it will fuel a love they could never forget.
Even though it doesn’t look like it, this book is written in first person, which we love 💕 Overall this book was so heartwarming and cute! I had such a good time reading it and I’m so sure you will as well 🥹🤍 Definite recommendation!
Thank you so much to the publisher and to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
Okay this was adorable, I'm so happy for Abbie and Carson - my heart was a mix of sad, happy and then overjoyed for them. It's a perfect summer read.
'I can't move. I can't breathe. I can't tear my eyes away from the guy in the backward hat'.
Synopsis On a ranch in Florida, Abbie adores her horses, caring for them, training them and loving them, alongside her equestrian boyfriend. Everything changes when Carson, the usual farriers son, takes over jobs in his father's place for a while.. meaning he'll be around Abbie's ranch for quite some time.
Carson was never meant to stay in Florida, and will return to Tennessee. But feelings and sparks fly between them.. knowing they'll have to inevitably say goodbye. Sometimes the heart wants, what the heart wants - and Carson shows Abbie what it's like to be treated right.
Thoughts I've never actually read an equestrian romance before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The tension between Carson and Abbie throughout was great, even if some scenes tore my heart in two. The mature scenes were well done and didn't go overboard or tear away from the storyline as well.
This is a lovely coming of age story with a summer romance. Abbie realising that how her ex-boyfriend treated her was not the normality in relationships, and Carson showing her what she deserves.
'I told him Tennessee is my home, but there's a girl in Florida who feels a lot like home, too'.
Thank you to NetGalley and Tuskan Publishing for this copy. This review is voluntary.
Thank you NetGalley and Tuskan Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
As a lover of cowboy romances, I requested this book as soon as I saw it and I couldn't have been more excited to have a chance to read it! Make Your Move was a sweet and steamy new adult romance that's super easy to read and even easier to adore. The YA/NA genre isn't always my go-to but I loved every minute of this book and absolutely devoured it within hours. The pacing was perfect and the writing was so easy to understand and I was sad for it to end. Carson and Abbie are the sweetest couple! Between him protecting her and her helping him overcome a personal fear, they were the cutest friends to lovers and I hope to read more by Garvin in the future!
This was my first ARC book and my first Heather Gavin read and I absolutely loved it.
I love horses and riding, as well as summer romances, so if you are into these as well, this book is for you! Small town girl, riding competitions, add the drama and you have a great recipe! Loved the storyline and the pace of the book, just perfect for the plot and length. Spice 🌶️🌶️, book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
I will be reading more from this author!
Thank you Heather Garvin, Victory Editing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This was the last book I had to read in order to have read all of Heather’s books and it did NOT disappoint. I absolutely adored Carson and Abbie’s story, and I neeed more of them! I wish there was another book to this!
