Rock star Ethan Richards has fought depression and a host of other demons all his adult life, and it’s caused him to lose everything—his wife, his son, his friends, and he almost loses the one thing that means the most to him—his band. He hits rock bottom and believes there is no way out.
Enter Jenna McCormick, a feisty drug and alcohol counselor, a woman with her own share of troubles. She finds Ethan intriguing but keeps him at a distance while trying to help him face life without crutches. She feels a spark but denies it, knowing that a relationship with unstable Ethan could be dangerous for both of them.
Ethan knows what he wants, though, and isn’t used to being told no. Jenna isn’t willing to risk Ethan losing his tenuous grip on sobriety, however, and is prepared to deny her deeper feelings to help Ethan climb out of his hole, but he learns how to let go of his pain when he finds that someone is prepared to walk with him through the shadows. Can he convince Jenna that they should take a chance on love or will they forever deny their feelings in an effort to keep Ethan on the straight and narrow?
Jade C. Jamison writes steamy contemporary romance that’s full of heat, heartbreak, and hard rock. Known for emotionally raw rockstar romances, sizzling billionaire stories, and unforgettable second chances, Jade delivers passionate stories with fierce heroines and brooding heroes.
When she's not writing, she's jamming to metal, sipping strong coffee, or spoiling her pets and family. Whether set in small-town Colorado or on tour with a band, her books take readers on an intense, romantic ride—one story at a time.
Ok, I am sick of hearing how Val didn't understand him, um hello, he never opened up to her about everything, he didn't give her a chance!! She did everything for him.Now this councilor is somehow the savor???!! Hello, she understands him cause she's a councilor and he opens up to her and the group! Nothing special there, it's her damn job! She is not more understanding than Val and would have left him in a minute if he did that stuff to her. I hate that Val is being pictured as Not Understanding, Brad too. I think it disrespects them after all they went through with Ethan and all the love and support they gave him.
Ok, so I finished this book this weekend. I will have to say that I was extremely excited to read this book when the author said that she was writing Ethan's story. I have alot in common with Ethan and understand his character, being a recovering drug addict with 8 years sober. I did alot of things myself that people would shun me for if they knew.
With that being said, the reason that I gave this book 2 stars is this; Was this Ethans story? YES. Did he want to get sober and redeem himself? YES. Did he go through the necessary struggles to get sober? YES. Did his recovery seem REAL to me? HELL NO...........
For 1 he was forgiven WAY TO EASY and was an ass about the fact that he had been sober for oh 8 MONTHS and deserved to be able to continue life as if nothing had happened. Is getting sober a living hell???? Absolutely, I know I have done it. When a topic hits so close to home with a book that I read, its hard for me to remember that this is JUST A BOOOK.
Im sorry, I try my best not to post negative reviews because that does not do anyone any good. However in this instance, I just cant let this go. You could have made Jenna ANYONE else in the entire world but his DRUG COUNSELOR. It almost makes me think that the topic was not researched at all. In recovery in order to get clean and stay clean there are certain rules your must live by. Dont drink or use, Call your Sponsor, No relationships in the first year. Etc, Etc...... Jenna being a drug counselor SHOULD KNOW THIS. This book would have been so much better had the whole recovery process not been botched to hell and back because the readers wanted to see Ethan get his happily ever after. I believe that the author needed to throw a love interest in there and Jenna being someone that is paid and trained to help was the likely choice. NOT even thinking about the fact that it was morally and professionally WRONG.
BOOK REVIEW: Rock Bottom (Bullet, #2) by Jade C. Jamison
“I know you think you know me. Like everyone else on this whole goddamn planet, you hate my ass. I realize I deserve part of it, but you’ve only heard Valerie’s side of the story - you don’t know shit about me. Probably the only person who really knows me is Brad... and even he doesn’t know everything. I know its easier to have a black-and-white picture. Gray isn’t always easy to process. But guess what, folks? I’m deep in the gray...and, if you’ll take a few moments to learn more about me, you might find it a little harder to judge me. But I leave that up to you.”
Rock Bottom follows Ethan Richards, the notorious bad boy lead guitarist of the highly successful Metal band, Fully Automatic.
Ethan has had his fair share of ups and downs, but his character in Bullet was the one that ripped the readers heart out and fed it to our disheartened souls. He was the character that pushed our buttons and had us clenching our fists and shaking our kindles. Love him. Hate him. There is no denying his pull; he is the character that gave Bullet substance, it’s angst, and pummelled the reader in the chest with all his multifaceted ways of fucked up!
I have read on Goodreads that some people are reluctant to pick up this book because of how Ethan made them feel - well let me tell you right now, if you decide against it, you are making a very big mistake! This book was everything I imagined it would be, and more.
Ethan is the embodiment of broken. A deeply tortured soul who suffered at the hands of his deranged Father - as a child victim, he witnessed and endured emotional and physical abuse, those memories have never faded, they have escalated, continuing to haunt him in adulthood. Yet throughout all of his wrongdoings and the trail of devastation that he left lying in his wake, deep down he is still that small boy who held a love for fire-trucks and chocolate chip cookies just screaming to be let out. To break free from the plague of chronic depression caused by the remnants of his past; feeling isolated and misunderstood, he knows that release can only be actioned by someone who truly understands, and yet no one ever has ...until now.
His heroine (pardon the pun) and angel of mercy comes in the form of a drug and alcohol addiction counsellor named, Jenna McCormick.
Jenna runs the local drug and alcohol support group in the basement of a small church. After leaving the rehabilitation centre clean of drugs and booze addiction, Ethan is advised to attend a weekly meeting to discuss his substance abuse with others who are continuing to battle the same demons as himself. This is where he sees her for the very first time.
Ethan arrives fashionably late, hiding behind his traditional self-assured and cocky persona he makes quite an entrance. His fame doesn’t go unnoticed with Jay, a young and impressionable Heavy Metal fan which only adds to his excessive ego. Jenna, already fully aware of his social status is not surprised by his attitude, yet when at the end of the session, he puts on his famous lady-luck charms, she defuses the situation immediately, putting the young Rock Star in his place.
”If you want my help, if you want to connect with the group, fine. But check your ego at the door. No one here is a rock star. We’re all broken.”
There... that one moment is all it takes for Ethan to finally appreciate and understand that the world does not revolve around him. He is not alone. Here, within this group of strangers he can learn what it means to find himself again.
Immediately, he forms a close connection to Jenna as she provides a very strong voice, her skills in the art of drug addiction counselling is loud, honest and authentic.
As a reader, I believed every word she said, as did Ethan as we watch him pull strength from her unwavering advice without judgement, in new surroundings. Gradually, he becomes besotted with this strong, independent woman as she becomes his rock. Jenna knows about the world of addiction. She understands how the drugs ‘were’ the only consistency in his life, there as when he needed them. It was his choice, his decision, the only one he ever had control over - that is, until it started to control him.
Knowing you have a problem is the first step to recovery and letting go of those bad habits was always going to prove difficult, but with love, support and understanding, it goes to prove that anything is possible.
“I am in a million pieces, and I don’t know where the fucking glue is. I’m... His voice dropped so low she had to strain to hear him. “I’m afraid that if I don’t get started, I’m going to start using again. I...I can’t do it again. I just can’t. I need your help.”
Jenna on the other hand is struggling to come to terms with an episode that rocked her world two years ago. Ethan is proving to be more than the cliché rock star that overdosed on heroine, twice!. And yet, she can see the good man that lingers inside, the broken man gradually setting himself free as he opens up to her in ways he never has before, but she’s scared to let another man in. Little does Ethan know, when she said, ‘we’re broken,’ she didn’t just mean her circle, she also meant herself.
“Then we will get through it together...”
When emotions run high and passion intertwines itself within this newfound friendship built on honesty and trust, the lows seem a fading memory.
He took her face in his hands and kissed her again. Then he said, “You...are something else.”
She giggled. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He felt so warm, so loved. “Everything.”
“Last chance. You know what you’re getting into.”
She nodded, feeling a steely determination course through her veins. “I’m here for the long haul.”
But what happens when two broken people fall desperately in-love? Does chronic depression just disappear? Do the nightmares fade into the darkness never to return? Does the addict just stop hearing Lady H’s call?
To put it simply...
NO!
They are always there, always lingering. The question is, does Ethan and Jenna have what it takes to fix it, to survive it, and remain fully intact?

Jade C Jamison has delivered a 12-step to recovery story with dignified honesty and heart.
This is no text-book read which it could so easily have been, because deep within the heart of Ethan’s rehabilitation, is a heart-warming love story that injected moments of sheer beauty that made for a welcoming reprieve because parts of this book are intense!
Yes, Jade has tackled some deeply disturbing subject matters and I have no doubt this is probably one of the hardest books she has ever written. Rock Bottom focuses solely on Ethan’s addictions, and how he manages to control them with the help, love and support of an amazing woman. Jenna’s past gave her an understanding but also an air of vulnerability, making her a well-rounded, likable heroine. She didn’t piss me off once, which is an incredible feat in this day and age with book heroines. This one rocked!
Brad and Valerie make an appearance but it is brief. This book in all it’s glory is solely focused on Ethan and Jenna, with an epilogue to die for!
Fully Automatic is lock and loaded - can’t wait to see where they go next...
Hello it is a HEAVY METAL ROCK STAR Book! I'm dead serious I was that freaking happy like totally OVER THE MOON! I couldn't WAIT for Ethan's story ~ In Bullet, there were times I wanted to chop his well you know off but deep down I had a feeling there was WAY MORE to him then just this gorgeous guitarist who enjoyed his vices (drugs, alcohol & sex) more than the things that really mattered in life! Yes this book had me...
Jenna is a drug/addiction counselor and happens to becomes Ethan's. She's also a ROCKER CHICK! Totally loved that about her but Jenna has her own demons and had a childhood filled with pain and that alone is what makes her damn good at what she did and helped connect with Ethan early on. What Jenna's last boyfriend put her through had me......
and I was highly
when she revealed that she hadn't had sex in a year I was ....
not really! But I so wanted to say that! Ethan he's out of rehab working with a psychiatrist and still messing around with his divorce and custody with Val! I wanted to ....
him for that but eventually as he heals old wounds start to also. Ethan & Jenna are damn hot in bed and yes they have ....
down pat! What happens though when you've been burned in the past and you find yourself falling for someone who has their own issues? Do you....
or do you stay in and take a chance with your heart? Well, you have to read Rock Bottom to see how this all plays out. While I was reading it I did have a few.....
but I also had a good amount of ....
when things were good they were good but I knew Ethan had a long road ahead of him still and I knew that Jenna, well I felt, she would be key to his recovery. When Ethan gets a chance to be Chris' father I was ....
and
at the same time. It was an emotional moment for me to see him come face to face with Brad & Val. There was a point in the book where I wanted to ......
Val! UGHHHHH!!!! it was this one part and she had me seeing red. The further I got into the book the more......
I got and then Ethan oh poor Ethan, well I started to .....
and I was ....

oh yes I was totally freaking happy to see this rocker face down his demons and start living the life he always deserved. Jenna was a tough as nails character on the outside but she had her vulnerable moments and that just endeared her to me more. I was....
over her! One of my FAV female characters of all times. After I finished the Epilogue I thought Jade had....
and I'm kind of ....
because I read it so fast but alas I read it again! I can't wait for more from Jade! She is truly one of my all time favorite author's and I've been reading her books FOREVER! I purchased Rock Bottom to add to my all time favorite list! Yes it had a rock star but that's not what this was about AT ALL.
Rock Bottom was about depression, addiction, forgiveness, fighting for someone you love and having the courage to fight for yourself. Jade can always write a sexy as sin scene and those were just that but Ethan showed us just how deep he was and how much he wanted to be a father to Chris! Jenna showed us that when you stand by the person you love and take that risk of putting yourself out there you can find your soul-mate and both of them FINALLY got the happiness they always deserved!
A TOTAL 10 HEADBANGING HELL YES STARS FROM ME! Now, can I have some more please? Totally recommend ALL of Jade's books! I LOVE THEM ALL ~ if you haven't read Bullet you must do so NOW and then jump on Rock Bottom! I promise you probably will HATE Ethan in Bullet but he redeems himself in Rock Bottom.
I am giving this book 4 stars, because I think the author is totally sweet and I loved Bullet.
This book, well my review will be short and sweet.
Ethan isn't a monster, he was addicted to drugs and it's horrible the things he went through in his past..
However..
He blames Val and I don't like how he treated her.. He should have been at her feet begging her to forgive him, and I wanted to hear that he still loved her, I felt like his whole relationship with her was a lie and the way he treated her because she wasn't understanding wasn't okay. I wanted to see begging, I wanted to hear more remorse for the woman who was his soul mate, who loved him with everything she had, who stood by him while he abused her emotionally and cheated on her and i just didn't get it (perhaps I read too many romance novels, I just needed more with this)
So major shocker.. I didn't like Jenna.. I didn't believe her story and I just didn't care for her, but to be perfectly honest I think my dislike for her ties into my first point, that I loved Brad and Val together but I wanted Ethan miserable for a while, without his ex wife.. Instead he gets his "HEA" with someone else at the snap of his fingers..
IDK I feel worse after reading this, but I did it because I LOVED Bullet and the author rocks.. Hopefully I will recover soon lol
ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. Spoiler-free. This book does not end with a cliffhanger. I recommend reading Bullet by Jade C. Jamison (book 1) before reading Rock Bottom…but this book can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone. 4.5 – 5.0 stars!
Ethan Richards is in one of the biggest rock bands of all time. But the only thing “rock” about his life is the hard rock bottom he has hit. Before he entered rehab (again) the only tracks he was laying were the tracks on his arms. Ethan has been on a downward spiral into a drug induced abyss. Everyone in his life became collateral damage in the wake of his drug fueled existence. He almost killed his wife, who in turn took their toddler son and left him. His band is exhausted of his erratic and dangerous behavior. Everyone gave up on the charismatic, smoldering hot, self-absorbed douche bag star rock…except for one. Jenna McCormick - his substance abuse counselor. Usually a therapist isn't supposed to cross the line and get involved with a patient. Ethan meets Jenna his new substance abuse counselor and sparks fly. Jenna is full of her own dysfunctional demons. She is doing her best to help herself and her groups’ members. Then Ethan walks into her life. Can Jenna pull Ethan out of his depressed filled life before he hits six feet under? Will Jenna be able to help herself and help Ethan?
I loved the way Rock Bottom picked up where Bullet left off without missing a beat. This story unfolded from both Ethan’s and Jenna’s pov. I enjoyed their internal dialogue which captured all of their feelings, observations and emotions. In Rock Bottom, Ethan’s behavior is not justified but explained. He wants to get better and feel well. I believe Jade Jamison did her homework on depression and the hard realities of addition. She exposed the very essence of the pain, heart break and aftermath that drug addiction and depression causes. Rock Bottom might be one of my favorite books by Jamison. I have to mention the great steam factor – dam this woman can write a hot scene! I think RB can be read as a stand-alone but to really understand Ethan’s past and understand the bigger picture I would recommend reading Bullet (Book 1). Rock on and enjoy. 4.5 – 5.0 Heavy Metal Stars.
I wanted to start this series, but after reading the description of book 2, I don't know if I want to start at all. I hate stories where a guy treats a woman like shit, only to change and be wonderful for the next woman. How nice when another woman gets the benefit of a "great" guy when the woman who loved him and stuck by him through all his shit got the crappy version. Lets just gloss over everything and throw in a pity party so he can have a happy ending. And a drug counselor???? THAT's his love interest?? That's just wrong and against what Ive ever heard about the boundaries of recovery. Gonna have to think long and hard about starting this series...
Could have been better. I'm not sure if it was a glitch with my kindles operation system or if the author actually repeated the same few stories a few times throughout book.
Once again I Loved the writing, the storyline not so much. I am still struggling with book 1 and how PO'd I was. As much as I wanted and expected a different ending for book 1 I am thrilled with Val's choice, now. I felt this book was way too much "Poor me no one understood me". I was sick of hearing it already. I do get what he went through was really tough and a hard thing to overcome but It seemed too much blame was dished out. Ethan in my opinion never gave anyone a chance to help him or even talk to them. At the end I did feel a little remorse from him but not near what they all deserved. I did not buy this Jenna thing at all. No connection there. On a lighter note I am looking forward to Jet's story next.
In Rock Bottom we pick up where Bullet left off, but now we get Ethan's perspective. He is in recovery in a way that he hasn't been before. Losing his family, his friends, and his music finally brought him to a point where he was willing to deal with his real problems. He meets Jenna, an addictions counselor, who struggles to keep him in recovery while she deals with her own personal issues. They are quickly attracted to one another, but both have some serious concerns based on their respective histories whether they will be able to be together in a healthy way.
I feel like I need to put out a disclaimer that I likely had a much harder time with certain aspects of this book than most other people will. I am a licensed therapist, and the way that Jenna rationalized and then completely disregarded any ethical boundaries, or any of the very specific rules of licensure by having a dual relationship with Ethan was tough for me to swallow. I kept wishing that the author had made her a member or the support group, or even kept her as a counselor- but NOT Ethan's counselor so I could just read past all that stuff. I'll just say that I struggled with that a lot. That said- if I disregard that aspect, there was a lot I liked about this.
It was really great to get Ethan's perspective this time, and to have some of the scenes from Bullet relived from his memory. We obviously know that he is struggling with a lot including depression and addiction, but now we really get to see what that looks like and feels like for him. It was great to see him push through his discomfort and really work towards sobriety and good mental health. I was glad to see he and Jenna find a connection they both needed. And their physical connection was definitely smokin' hot!
Aside from my anger regarding Jenna's using her job as a counselor to attempt to address her own counseling needs, and complete disregard for the reasons it isn't appropriate to have a dual relationship with a client- I really liked her. I thought she was a strong woman who tried to be strong and supportive for those who needed her. I thought she really was a good match for Ethan, and I was hoping that they would be able to make their relationship work.
If you've read Bullet, you should definitely give this one a read. It is interesting to see rad and Val again from another angle, and to get to know Ethan on a much deeper level. I'd give this 3.5 stars.

Wow! I don't even know where to begin. I really didn't like Ethan at the end of Bullet. I wanted to keep not liking him, but at the end of Rock Bottom I cried for him. This book touched me in a way no other one has.
Ethan hid a lot of secrets from Valerie, Brad and the rest of the band. He is has a tortured soul, he's broken. He tries to pick up the pieces of his life. Rehab and counseling, through this he meets Jenna. I liked Jenna instantly. She too has a past, though addiction to drugs and alcohol she never has dealt with herself, she's no stranger to what it can do to you. She tries to guide Ethan down his path to sobriety and peace.
I can't stress enough how raw, and emotional this book is. It is about recovering from an addiction and dealing with depression. This book takes you on a journey and is so well written that you will feel Ethan's pain. I cried through the last three chapters. I felt his pain, I cried along with him. I give this book 5 Rock Stars! I am really looking forward to Book #3. I can't wait to read Jet's Story.
Okay so can I can say I really Loved this book. I kinda hated Ethan at the end of Bullet. Well no actually I hated him while reading all the book. BUT this book made him shine.
In this it start's when he is out of rehab and us seen someone for his addiction. His doctor then tells him he thinks he should visit a weekly meeting, that it would help his progress in getting him to where he needs to be. So even though he doesn't want to,he pull's up his big boy pants and goes. Of course he goes late, making an entrance stomping around. He is after all Ethan Richards, rock star. So In he struts, cocky and confident. But what he wasn't expecting was the beautiful girl running the session. Perfect body, face of an angel, reddish hair and almond shape green eyes. He is smitten before he even takes a seat in the meeting.
Jenna is this girls name. And it takes everything in her not to go all fan girl on his butt when he stroll's in like he owns the place. So what does she do? Yep pretend's she doesn't know who he is. That'll teach his confident self LOL. But he is drool worthy for Jenna. But she needs to shove them taught's from her mind straight away. She may lead this group, but just like Ethan she has a past as well. She to is also broken. She's just good at hiding it and putting in a show.
Ethan get's under her skin, and then asks her for private sessions. Which she really doesn't wanna do BUT that's what she's there for. But them sessions just end up making them closer. Then one day Ethan open's up in a group meeting and tell's everyone a horrific story about his abusive dad and mam when he was only a kid. Jenna with her emotions running high ends up sobbing her heart out in front of him. And in the one weak moment Ethan make's his move. BUT she doesn't stop him. She know's its wrong, but she has been drawn to him from the day he walked into her meeting.
Jenna past though is so dark. It eats her,but Ethan finally gets her to tell him everything. She's terrified he will think differently about her. Yeah like that would happen. He may have been a b*****d in Bullet but he's changed in this. He's getting help and he's been clean for months.
I actually felt really sorry for Ethan in this book. You don't see hopw much he's hurting in book one. He is literally dying inside. And has no idea how to save himself. I'm not saying what he put Valerie through was okay. But you would have to have no heart if it didn't break for him a little. He is like a lost soul. But so Is Jenna. But not anymore. They find each other and together pull each other out of the darkness that wants to swallow them up. You go through all the up's and downs with Ethan is this book. And it even goes back and show's what he was thinking on some of the mental time's with Val.
All in all I really like it! Jade.C.Jaminson done yest another amazing job! And I cannot wait now to sink my teeth into Jet's story :)
My love affair with Bullet & all the characters within its pages began earlier this year in 2013 .... Since then I have read every single book written by Jade C Jamison & love them all ..... her writing style is what I love best & although you know this is a story there is realism to it !!! In BULLET I loved Ethan the handsome bad boy & front man from "FULLY AUTOMATIC" but his character took a beating when he started cheating on his then wife Val & when drug abuse took a hold on his life.
Ethan the tough rock star has been to hell & back .... in writing Ethan's story Jade brings out the fragile & fractured man/boy that never ever wanted to cry & show the deep scars & pain from an abusive upbringing .... instead he turned to sex - drugs & alcohol as an escape & become an ass to his naive straight laced ex-wife Valerie (the woman who he still loves & the mother of his cute son Chris) - best friend & bro Brad & his band mates ... In ROCK BOTTOM Ethan faces his demons head on in an eye opening account of his huge struggle with addiction to "H"....with the help of the beautiful Jenna, Ethan's drug counsellor & new love who totally understands his demons & what he is going through Ethan makes it through the darkest time of his life.
I went through a gamut of soul crushing emotions myself reading this book .... crying - smiling & crying again & sympathizing for the broken Ethan who was seeking professional help & trying to redeem himself after he literally hit "ROCK BOTTOM"
Jade I just could not put the book down -- read till the wee hours (2.30am) & woke up at 6am for work .... soooooooooooooooo worth staying awake for !!!
BULLET & ROCK BOTTOM(BULLET 2)& JADE C JAMISON ------------- JUST ROCKS !!! 5 STARS !!!
After silently cursing my way through BULLET and despising bad boy messed up in the head Ethan...it would take a miracle to understand and forgive him. Rock Bottom did just that and so much more! We hear the sarcastic, cocky tone right from the beginning as Ethan wants the reader to know that it's his turn finally to tell it like it is from his side and really...shouldn't we always be willing to hear both sides? Author Jade Jamison finally does let us in with more details of Ethan's horrible, abusive childhood and it is really understandable to see the hurtful place where all his bravado and posturing originates from. Depression and addiction are monsters with no conscience and nobody is immune to the disease. This book very eloquently describes what it is like for the addict and the loved ones helplessly looking in and it's only when we see both sides so clearly, that we can learn compassion and understanding and acceptance for the things we cannot change. Rock Bottom still had some hotter than hell sexy scenes with Ethan and his committed counselor/love interest Jenna, and we get to see more of the interaction between Val, Brad and Ethan dealing with how they will all get along for the sake of little Chris...but make no mistake... this is a very deeply intense story of redemption and forgiveness and the strength of the human spirit to keep fighting to live. Not just survive but be able to soar and have quality of life again. *5* beautifully heartbreaking intense stars...have a drink and some tissues handy =)
Ethan... You may have hated him in Bullet, lets face it...he gave you so many reasons to. He was a cheating, lying, abusive, drug addict that broke Valerie's heart time and time again. But when he hits Rock Bottom, Ethan takes steps to turn his life around and in doing so discovers addiction is not his only obstacle. This book starts off after Bullet but in thoughts and dreams you are able to relive parts of Bullet through Ethan's eyes. Seeing it from his perspective doesn't make you angry, it makes you sad. You're able to see why Ethan did a lot of the things he did and with a little insight into mental health conditions or drug addictions, you have the ability to see his version without as much judgement or rage. His battle may never end, like many addicts, but his fight is amazing. He finds his soul mate in his quest to find himself and together they take steps toward the future. I do hope for more books in this series...maybe Zane's book?? I just want to check in on Ethan and get to see a little more as his journey continues. These characters Jade created sucked me in, in Bullet and when others hated Ethan, I just felt their was more to him...I was right. He's a massively complex man with a tortured yet hopeful soul. I'm glad to have read his story. Thank you Jade...you're phenomenal as always!
When I finished Bullet I absolutely hated Ethan Richards. He was a major jerk (the nice way to say what I was thinking) and I was so frustrated with him I wanted to punch him in the face. Now, we get Ethan's side of the story. He lets us in a little more and gives us the story of his childhood that has shaped the man he has become. We also meet Jenna, a counselor who develops feelings for Ethan. I was upset about that too. It seemed unprofessional and unethical to me that Jenna would act on her personal feelings. She has a Master's Degree for goodness sake! But, she doesn't deny her feelings for him and sets out to help him in his recovery.
This book gives us a look into what addiction is like for the addict. It is raw, emotional, and tough to take at times. We see life through Ethan's eyes, is past and his present, and much of the time it is unpleasant. Jenna also has addiction in her past and she is fighting her demons as well. This book brings closure to Ethan and Valerie's stories. 4 out of 5!
Oh Ethan Ethan Ethan..... How I hated you. You had the Luv of a good woman and she gave you a beautiful son and you through it all away.. For what?? For drugs and sex and a pathetic path you chose...
I never thought you would make me even like you again.... How could you ever redeem yourself??
Well enter a Jenna... The light at the end of a very very long tunnel... And you almost threw her away too, didn't you? Then you would have been a level below rock bottom....dead.
Jenna is a very strong character... She would have to be to deal with all of the skeletons and darkness that is Ethan... And because of her... I have been able to forgive you...and yes.. Even cheer for you!
This book didn't redeem Ethan's actions in Bullet, but I did feel empathy for him. His POV really helped me to understand him better. If he continues to stay on a straight path, his character may even become loveable.
My only complaint is that the book was a bit slow/boring at times. I didn't find chronic depression and drug abuse information to be entertaining. Yet, I get why it had to be included in his story.
On the other hand, I really liked his substance abuse counselor, Jenna. She seemed like the perfect fit for him. I liked that she not only tried to help Ethan, but that she tried to help Val understand what Ethan was going through.
Overall, I did enjoy the sequel, especially the alternating POV's. My Rating: 3.5 Stars.
Well let's just say that this book was horrible. It was unethical on so many levels. You have a drug and alcohol counselor who starts to date a patient but can't seem to see when said patient ( Ethan) starts to spiral down hill. Come on did she get her degree from a cracker jack box? Let's not forget about Ethan. This guy has narcissistic written all over him. He kept making references about how Val didn't know him and that Jenna got him right of the starting block... What a total looser. How about you pull you head out of your behind. Val stuck by your lame butt one to many times. And still loved you you schmuck. I found my self skimming through pages and pages looking for dialogue between Val and Brad. I feel let down.
So I started reading this and I could not remember much about bullet so I stopped and went back and read bullet again.... And I think that was where I went wrong. I should not have done that back to back because then I just kept thinking about how big of an asshole Ethan was and I couldn't get into him. And he kept harpin on Val and I loved her in the first one! It was ok and I'm glad I read it and glad he got his happy ending. And I will read the next one for sure, if there is another. If you read the first one you need to read this one it gives you a little closure on the whole Val/Ethan/Brian relationship.
I take my 5 stars seriously. sometimes I give a 4 for the story but not the writing and vice versa. this story was not only unexpected after the first book but so well written. I often struggle when a book switches from H to h point of view but this one was different. emotion written so well I didn't even have to wonder what the other thought. Well done Jade, well done. I'm officially a fan for life. Read this series friends!
I'm still not an Ethan fan! He expects Val to forget all the awful things he did. I didn't feel his remorse as much as I thought I should. I think trying to choke someone to death deserves more than I'm trying and I've been sober for 8 months and should be part of my child's life. Didn't buy it.
For those who read Bullet and thought Ethan was a asshole douche have to read this. You will come to love him or really like him. He is painted in a whole different light that makes you come to really understand him and sympathize with him.
Is it just me or did this book end rather abruptly? We were going along in the story then boom. Everything was miraculously better and the end. I liked ethan a little more but not much.
*Arc provided by Jade in return for an honest review*
I have been fan of Jade’s from technically the very start. When she had less that 100 LIKES on Facebook. I found one book of hers and then from then on I was hooked. I am so proud and absolutely love that she is getting the recognition that she deserves. She is a great person to know and talk to and she writes amazing books (Everything But is one of my favs). Bullet definitely put her on the map and I am so privileged to again, be a part of her book tour for Rock Bottom (#2).
Firstly, if you haven’t read Bullet, where have you been these past couple of months? Go read my review HERE then go and buy it. Rock Bottom is about Ethan from Bullet and to be honest, not a massive fan of him so I really hoped that Jade would be changing my mind about him in Rock Bottom.
And Jade has done it again. I despised Ethan in Bullet but my god, Jade makes you change your mind about him, makes you understand him and learn about him and you cant help but fall in love with him. Rock Bottom is definitely a 5 star book and as always, I love every word she has written in this book. She makes you feel. So many feels. You will be angry at Ethan, you will then switch and feel sorry for him, want him to change himself for the better, want him to love and be loved back and be the best guy that he can, putting his drug and alcohol abuse behind him and of course, try to overcome his past.
If you have read Bullet, then you know the story between Ethan and Val, and basically how toxic it was, how Ethan was a damn right douchebag to her after a while (I did like him, and then no-way José). Taking drugs, cheating on her and just fucking her around, so when she ended up with who she did, well I was literally hoping for this ending and for her to end up with… ;)
So now in Rock Bottom, we get to the bottom of Ethan. Of his childhood, his drug habits, why he did everything to Val and to be honest, you really get to know him so much better. You begin to understand him more, feel sorry for his upbringing and the way it shaped him. But then add in Jenna – His group councillor and perhaps there is hope for Ethan after all!
I’ll start with Jenna first. Jenna is a councillor for a drug and alcohol support group and shes a damn good one at that. She understands and guides and helps everyone in the group and they all trust her with everything. She knows what to say to them to help them stay on the straight and narrow. She’s a strong character but in a way that is a front. Just like her group, she too, is broken but she doesn’t show it, she buries it away in the hope that it doesn’t resurface. She doesn’t want to relive it and her tattoo is a reminder of the past and how she won’t.
I adored Jenna. She was such a breath of fresh air, so lovely and strong but inside she was broken too. It took Ethan’s stories to hit a cord in her to make her see that she does need to figure out her own shit as she kept saying she was a fraud but you could see the love she had for her group, how much they loved her and you couldn’t help falling in love with her too.
You could see just how amazing and how great she was to and for Ethan – to his progress and to finding love again, someone to fully love everything about him and to make him see that he can overcome his addiction, that she will always be there for him no matter what and she believes in him. Their relationship was something that you just were addicted too (wrong choice of word? :P ) and you will be obsessed with them both and how they both help one another.
She really is the best thing to ever be in Ethan’s life (bar Chris of course, that little cutie)
Now Ethan. He really is the guy you love, then hate then love again. He really did redeem himself, in my opinion, in Rock Bottom. It took a lot for him to admit he had a problem, for him to act upon it and for him to actually want to change, and he did it all for Chris – his son (and then Jenna). Of course, he is a douchebag and the Ethan we know at the start but he slowly lets his defences down, knows he needs to get over his addiction and Jenna seems to be his new one, which I loved. Despite the back and forth, Ethan found someone to focus on and he sure as hell wasn’t going to let her go once he found her.
He does some soul-searching, we find out a hell of a lot about his childhood and why he acted the way he did with the band and of course, to Val. He was so lost and depressed and you understand him so much more in Rock Bottom. You feel so sorry for him, for everything he has been through and you feel so proud of him for getting his life back on track, for finding Jenna and finding solace in her.
You can completely see why he and Val just weren’t meant to be, but he and Jenna totally are. They are soul mates. They understand each other, understand addiction and they really are the perfect match. Their chemistry was instant, sparks flew and they are amazing together. Even the sex connected them together and Jade always writes great sex scenes :D
Rock Bottom is completely different to Bullet. Bullet was about the band and Val and making it in the music industry, but now Rock Bottom – it’s all about Ethan. His journey to becoming a better man and to getting over his addiction to drugs. About falling in love and being happy for once in his life. And he is, happy that is. With Jenna. And with having Chris – his son back in his life.
Chris is the cutest kid ever and I was so glad that Ethan cleaned his act up for Chris and before having him back in his life. Everything was for Chris and you can see the love Ethan has for his child and how Chris loves Ethan back too. Their bond was the sweetest!!
I cannot tell you how much I loved this book. It’s different from Bullet but I was glad. I loved that it was Ethan’s, that we got to find out so much more about him but also that he redeemed himself and that I actually love him now. Yes, you read that correct. It deals with some heavy issues but Jade wrote them perfect and she deals with them in a sensitive manner. Something I knew Jade always does!
Love you Jade and thank you once again for a brilliant book! <3
I read Bullet when it first came out and thought it was fantastic. I have a deep love for my rock star books, and Bullet quickly topped my list of favorites. When I heard Jade was writing a sequel, I mentally fist pumped. If you have read Bullet, the reason I wanted another book might surprise you. I wanted the story to continue because I loved Ethan.
Yes, you heard me, I loved Ethan. I know he did some awful things. I know he treated Val horribly. I was glad she got a HEA. It's hard to explain, but I just wanted Ethan to have one too. Behind his f**k-ups, I honestly knew he was a good guy. He was just consumed by his past and I wanted him to have a future. I couldn't wait to see if Jade was going to validate my feelings in Rock Bottom (Bullet 2).
This book was appropriately titled. Ethan has definitely hit rock bottom. He had destroyed everything in his life...his family, his friends and the band. So when he decided to get help, it was totally understandable that no one believed him. Like all loved ones of addicts, they had heard it all before.
I love how Jade writes her rock star characters. She didn't try to make him endearing. She made him exactly how I would think he would be...arrogant and spoiled. I mean, come on, we all know that it has to go to your head when everyone constantly tells you how amazing you are. It wouldn't take long for you to feel entitled. That's Ethan to me.
Jenna changes that. I liked her from the beginning. She wasn't immune to Ethan's charm. She just didn't let him see it. Her main focus was Ethan's recovery. I loved that she swooned inwardly but never let others see it. She was professional and honestly wanted him to be whole. I gave her a mental high five every time she shot him down and knocked his ego down a notch. ;)
Rock Bottom has a totally different vibe than the previous book. Where it was focused on the band, the music and the dysfunctional relationships involved, this book is about healing, moving on and repairing what has been broken. Ethan isn't the only broken person in this story. Jenna hides her own pain behind a mask of professionalism. She finds out quickly that Ethan is persistent when he wants something, and he wants her. Cue the sexy music!
Jade Jamison writes smexy scenes that make my girlie parts squirm. They are as raw and gritty as the rest of the book. They aren't hearts and flowers. Totally rock star sex like we picture it would be....frantic, no holds barred. So don't worry, this book doesn't do soft even if it is dealing with Ethan becoming a better person.
I would definitely recommend Rock Bottom (Bullet 2) to everyone who has read Bullet. You have to read Bullet first, or you will be lost since past relationships are revisited throughout the book. A solid 4.5 rating from me!
