Beaux Chauvin loved his land of the bayous in the Cajun Country of southern Louisiana. He was an honorable, hard working man not given to impulses and had a serious avoidance of unattached females. Until meeting Lacy Landon.
Lacy Landon was finally standing on her own two feet. Born and raised in Charleston, she had been an unknowing pawn in a game of deceit from her father and boyfriend. Now she was beginning her own life that had no room for a man, especially not one as devastatingly sexy as Beaux Chauvin.
But life has its own plans for both of them as they embark of a journey of love, lies and hidden family secrets. As they face unseen dangers, they lean on each other as they fall more in love, learning that life may not always be beautiful, but love will see them through
I love the character depth in this book. The dynamics of the family bond between the male brothers and female cousins just makes you feel right there with them. I could not put this book down. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
The Best Laid Plans by Renee Peterson is a new-adult book that I loved. The book has a well written plot with mystery, intrigue, and suspense from chapter to chapter. The characters have smooth interaction and a heat develops between Lacy, a college student, and Beaux, a bar owner. With both Lacy and Beaux getting over hurtful relationships, I enjoyed how the trust develops between them. Yet, will the family's sorted past add too much drama and get in the way? I will be recommending this book to anyone I see. It is a great love story with everything you could want in a good romance. I give it 5 stars!!!
Beaux is the type of male character that I love and the one any girl would be lucky to have. He strong, tough and masculine but feels deeply, showing his love through actions. There are two scenes in this book that I keep rereading because they were so beautiful. Out in the field, in the truck under that stars as the storm rolled in gave me chills and was magical! The second scene was in the shower (no, no it's not what you think). In that moment, Beaux's love for Lacy was so tender and graceful that I found myself actually sighing. A wonderful read that I highly recommend.
I loved reading this book, and truly enjoyed it. Renee did an amazing job building the relationships between her characters; you are able to sense the strength in the bonds between brothers, friends and lovers alike. The connection and instant attraction between Beaux and Lacy was instantaneously infallible, sexy and relatable for those who have met their soul mates. And, although you only see a little bit of her, I found that my favourite character, and someone I thought was relatable to most, if not all readers, was Beaux's Mother.
I also enjoyed the plot line. It was truly suspenseful, and magnetic. There were times, where I thought it got a bit confusing, but it didn't deter me from enjoying the book or the plot. The unknown hardships that Lacy and her cousin Sara were in, were unpredictable, and suspenseful. Every time I thought things were settling down, and things would end happily for all parties involved, something just as suspenseful would happen, keeping me glued to the book and wanting to know more of what'll happen, and how things would get resolved.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this book and recommend it for all to read!
Bayou man Beaux Chauvin has been dealt a crap hand and the last thing he’s looking for is a woman to mess up his life – again. When Lacy and Beaux first set eyes on each other its instant dislike, Beaux because she’s a woman and Lacy because she doesn’t trust men but that doesn’t mean she’s completely immune to Beaux’s good looks and brooding charm. I liked the MCs, two decent people struggling with issues of trust amidst intrigue from Lacy's past.
When I started skimming, the story had lost me in some way just after the half-way point. There was just too much information that could have been condensed or repetition deleted altogether without deviating from the plot. It’s a personal preference but paragraph layouts with chunks of straight dialogue was distracting and stymied the flow as did the excessive use of full stops throughout that could easily have been rectified with a slight turn of phrase and/or a comma.
The story was okay at the beginning but it lost momentum.
While this book has many very positive reviews, I was very disappointed. The pacing of the book is awkward. The book isn't explicit, yet I can't exactly classify it as sweet or clean, as the characters fall into bed with each other after just a few dates. There's very little chemistry between the two main characters and the dialog is stilted and unnatural.
The family backgrounds are strangely over-the-top. The role of law enforcement is oddly detached. I think that was supposed to contribute to the mystery, but instead, it just contributes to the list of strange plot points in the book.
The best part of the book was early on when there were descriptions of some of the attractions the main characters visit in Louisiana. Beyond that, I can't recommend this book.
LOVE IT! Ever since my trip to Louisiana several years ago, I read any books I can that are set there. This one was definitely a hit and I finished it feeling satisfied and immediately bought the next in the series. This book ran the spectrum of emotions and there were beautiful descriptions. The love between the characters was strong and sensual and their chemistry came through the pages. I also loved the mom. For some reason she reminds me of Mama Conte from the Marriage series, but not as involved. Highly recommend.
I won this book on a contest so i decided to read it, i wasn't expecting much but i really enjoyed it. I would recommend to any one that like romance with a slight suspense twist. Good job Renee, now you have me hooked and i need to read your other books :)
A VERY SWEET, ROMANTIC BOOK. WAS NOT EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED BUT AN OK READ. SHOWED THE STRENGTH OF LOVE, FAMILY AND FRIENDS HAVE ON EACH OF US. THIS IS A SERIES BUT EACH BOOK CAN BE READ AS A STAND ALONE. MILDLY SEXXY BUT BIG ON THE POWER OF LOVE.
I liked the storyline and enjoyed the setting in Louisiana! For awhile I kept thinking Beau and Lacy were going to discover they were brother and sister! whoa! that would have been a shocker!!
