This was a perfect ending for the series, and it was really nice to see Howard have some good happen to him. The beginning threw me for a minute. I got about 4 pages in and thought, "am I reading the right story?" Then it all clicked into place and the story took off. I absolutely loved it. It was worth the wait, and Robert, I am apparently your kind of nerd, because I enjoyed the post script about how you came up with your ideas almost as much as I enjoyed the story. The whole series is a great read and it flows so well you will blow through all three books pretty quickly. Howard Bell is one of those characters that you just can't help but root for, regardless of his sometimes imperfect actions and/or decisions. I recommend this series as well as everything else Robert Brumm has written. It's all top notch stuff!

I finished D3 a couple of days ago and have been thinking about the review. I enjoyed D1 and D2 quite a bit, but D3 is even better! Mr. Brumm seems to have grown more comfortable with each book and it is wonderful to see. No D4??? Well... maybe? Maybe not. The story does leave you wanting more, but not waiting or expecting more. It is wrapped up well and doesn't disappoint. It is very adventurous and action-packed which made it near impossible to put down.

Also... I loved the Epilogues. They were the icing on the cake! Thank you, Robert, for another great read!

An absolutely fun-filled, gut-wrenching, edge-of-your-seat finale to this great series. Robert Brumm excelled at this series and seemed to up the ante in every volume.

I really enjoyed reading the writer's note at the end of this volume wherein he talks about some of the mistakes he made and how he may have corrected some of them.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a good dose of a little horror and thrills.

I really enjoyed this series. I liked the writing and the characters, and the action was great. I might have to check out more of Robert Brumm's books.

With Robert Brumm's "Desolate" series, you'll pay for the whole book, but you'll only need the edge! Ok, that doesn't really work as well for books as it does for movies, but it's true nonetheless. If I had to describe this book series in one sentence it would be this:

A fast paced sprint through a redemptive love story with a pandemic and murderous aliens thrown in for good measure.

Robert tells a great story with plenty of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. From the very first page you're pulled into Howard's world, with his tragic past and seemingly hopeless present and future. The whole book series felt like a sprint to me, in a great way. The story moves along at a great pace but the action is what pushes you along and keeps the pages turning quickly. Each part of the book is either suspenseful and action packed, or filling you in on the amazing story behind the action. Either way, it's a hard book series to put down.

Robert's vivid depiction of scenes and surroundings makes you feel like you're in the moment with the characters. There's one spot in the book where Howard encounters another main character in the book (I won't spoil anything for you) that I can still remember like I was there. Two people, an unlikely duo, finding each other in a world that's been turned on it's head - where trust between strangers is a thing of the distant past.

The title of the final book, "Redemption", couldn't be more fitting. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire Desolate series, and encourage you to buy and devour them as I did. You won't regret it - I certainly don't!

Such a great ending to this series! I liked Desolate 1 and 2 very much, but this book is undoubtedly the best of the three. Story elements from the first two books get some added detail, and a few characters are really well developed. Loved both Emily and Soo, and was sorry to see Dave go. I liked Howard right from the first book, so I'm pleased with the outcome of his adventures. The rest of the planet, not so much, but it wasn't Howard's fault, poor guy.

I thought both the prologue and the epilogues added a lot to the story. The alien ship has its own story, and Howard shares some of his thoughts. I found a couple of things to snicker over, too, which is always fun. I'm sorry to see this series end, but it's definitely done now. Another book following this one would be telling a different story.

Thank you, Robert, for the great reads! Now go write something else, please. There's a nice corner right over there.

A very good ending to the series. The sci fi beginning was a bit confusing, but very informative. I loved the characters, even the convict Howard. The plot was interesting and fast paced, but I secretly hoped that the ending was going to be more dramatic. The style was vivid, but less descriptive than before. All in all, an entertaining read.

Nice ending (?) to a trilogy with an open end for the possibility of a continuation. Slow start for the series, but ended well with nice character wrap-ups.
