Familiars: Animal Powers of Britain

Rate this book
An animal familiar represents the species as a whole, not a wolf, but Wolf. Through this connection the shaman or witch can draw on the power of the whole species for their strength and abilities. A familiar also acts as a guide to Otherworld places, where knowledge or healing may be sought. A special relationship is formed between the practitioner and their familiar, otherwise referred to as Totem, Power or Nagual animals. This fascinating and enlightening book details seeking a familiar using pathworkings and dance, calling a familiar, shapeshifting, spirit flight, thought forms, and entering the Otherworld. It goes on to detail animals, giving folklore and names, associated deities, elements and plants, natural history and a pathworking for a wide variety of animals.

A fascinating dip into the shamanic world of the witch's familiar - wild and domestic animals. It includes real life testimony from people undergoing shamanic experiences. It gives great details of the lore of fifty different British/Celtic animals and tells you how to work with those animals and what visions and contacts with those animal spirits might mean. I have always been inspired by animal totems and this really gave me another (more complete) insight into how the magic works. This is a full and exhaustive coverage of the subject, well researched and cohesively written.

Best Familiar book I've seen so far.

All animals come with correspondence such as the Associated deities, Plant allies, Element, Festival.
Details each animal with History, folklore, path workings and what they teach us as a familiar.

If familiar is to be a study for the craft this book is a must.
