When writing about southern Louisiana, Cajuns, and the bayous, it's from real life. Terrebonne Parish will always be home even though GiGi now lives in Maryland via twelve years along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Writing is something she always kept private because she was teased as a child for having a wild and vivid imagination. She wrote her first "book" at nine years old, which consisted of 4 handwritten sheets of paper stapled together: crayon-colored cover included. Having earned a B.A. from the University of Alabama in Criminal Justice and then added a Master's in Criminal Justice from Capella University, that imagination is now even wilder! Married to her very own Prince Charming and living happily ever after for more than twenty years, she designs happily-ever-afters for the characters she calls her imaginary friends.
Writing From the Middle was a strange journey for me. It all began with an idea. Simply put, that idea was a look at how we as flawed human beings will run off without all of the story. How we react when we think we're being hurt or played. These thoughts gave me Brody, the middle child who plays peacekeeper for everyone and every thing. Hope was the perfect woman for Brody. She sees the good in everyone. Charlie was the perfect brother. He is stubborn, refuses to get the details before his temper has him running off and finally he has trouble swallowing the plate of pride he's been served. And then there's Brody's sister Heather. We all know a brat like her, don't we? The study of these characters and how they interact with the people of Moss Bayou was the aim of this story. I hope you enjoy the multi-direction, the redemptions, the confessions, and especially, the immediate attraction/love of Brody and Hope.
A sweet little romantic suspense-lite story about a guy helping his brother by hiding a girl....and then falling for her. With a group of sexy friends in a steamy locale, some instant love, and a bad guy after the damsel...it's a guilty pleasure. There were some steamy parts and I thought they were done quite well. Nothing over the top but sexier than I expected.
“I can’t get enough of you,” he whispered as he moved inside her, stretching her. He was pushing her over the top. She was so close. The feel of him pulling her to where she so desperately needed to be caused a deep, shuddering breath to escape.
“So tight and hot,” he told her. “So wet.” His eyes, a deep, dark blue-green with heat.
So yeah...Brody was likable =)
The set up for future stories for each of the friends is a given and I most likely will be checking them out. The story may be too sugary for some readers taste and not very believeable on the suspense (our damsel was roaming the church fair riding ferris wheels and eating pancakes at the local diner when she was in potential danger), but enough was there for me to be curious about what happens next in Moss Bayou. I thought Luke's story would be book two in the series but was surprised to see Jesse is featured in the second book, From the Dark.
I was able to pick up From the Middle for free at Amazon but it is also available to borrow for free through the Amazon Prime program for members (the whole series is).
This was a great read! The characters were well developed and the plot was inviting. I lived near Terrebonne Parish for a while and this book brought back a lot of fond memories. Even before discovering that this was the author's home, I knew.
Muddled through this one in hopes of it getting better--was terribly disappointed. Poorly written, poorly plotted, just poor. In this case, you get what you pay for, and i didn't pay anything...
