I picked this up totally on a whim with no context and am pleasantly surprised. Aside from the art, this is very good.

I thought that this was a fantastic introduction to the world. While there isn’t a lot of dancing to be seen in this, the first volume, it shows promise of what is to come. Getting an insight into what makes Subaru the girl she is and how dance came into her life at such a volatile point in her life makes it clear that dance is the release Subaru needs in her life.

I can fully relate to that sentiment. Though I no longer take dance classes 7 days a week, or even once a week for that matter, I understand the release that comes from losing yourself in the movement. I understand the freedom that comes from dance, from becoming something more than just yourself. If I’m feeling down I’m more likely to put on some music and freestyle around my place than I am to sit and mope. All of that from a love of dance.

If you’re looking for a manga that focuses on dance, this is a great one to try out. While I’ve read a lot of manga centered around ballroom dancing, this is the first one I’ve had the pleasure of reading that focuses purely on dance. It’s a fantastic read and a great way to see how freeing dance can be.
