Going Down
Tattoo artist Laurie Watson has felt the distance between himself and his live-in boyfriend, Win, for a long time, but he's finally had enough. He's determined to figure out how to work out whatever's gone wrong between them. Unfortunately, when he gets home, he finds Win talking with his ex.
Figuring he's missed his chance to fix things between them, Laurie flees. The temperamental elevator has other ideas, however, and Laurie and Win are trapped between floors.
No longer able to hide from their problems, Laurie and Win will either make up, or break up for good...

I really thought this was going to be a sweet little 3 star read, and for the most part it was. A typical failure to communicate theme, but it was working well, right up to the last ten or so pages. I was expecting the sex, after all these sort of shorts are kinda geared towards it. But the timing of it made me want to scream.

Laurence "Laurie" Watson and Percival Stanton Winthrop III (or "Win") are opposites attract. Laurie is a tattoo artist, while Win is one of the rich-breed, though now Win is working as a lawyer in a small-firm doing a lot of pro bono work. Lately though, Laurie feels that they are growing apart. Then when he is planning to confront Win about it, he comes home to Win and his ex, Blaine, looking cozy drinking wine...

With so many new authors I have lack of interest to try and having my own 'issue' with some of old favorites, Cassandra Gold is one of the few go-to authors for me, when I want to get a feel-good sweet story. She never does over-the-top drama. And I love her endearing characters.
I love how this is about an established couple who finally talk about their insecurities, before everything goes for the worse. I know that it takes an elevator broken down on them before they finally TALK. However, Win DOES chase Laurie down to explain, before they are trapped inside the broken elevator. I'm always up for established couple stories. Because as much as I enjoy HEA, it's better to see "what's coming after".
There are no elements of surprise or unnecessary drama. We get Laurie and Win reminiscing the first time they meet and when things start to go wrong. It's lovely, it's short, and it ends in satisfying note (and we get extra sex scene in an elevator! *grin*).
PS: I must say though, Laurie's phone screen surely lasts quite long time to give them light through all the talk and sex *lol*. I want to know what brand the phone is. Mine can only last 30 minutes without activity!!

I like Cassandra Gold's stories, she has a way of making short ones, in this case just 9000 words, tell a complete story and not feel like I'm missing anything.
Laurie, a tattoo artist from the 'wrong side of the tracks' met and fell in love with Percival Stanton Winthrop III, Win comes from a very well to do family with high expectations.
Falling for Laurie, working as a lawyer in a small firm, more interested in fighting discrimination, than making money is not how they saw their son's future.
Laurie has been feeling the distance between them grow, they don't talk anymore and he can't remember the last time they had sex, but he isn't a quitter, he is going to get his man back.
What he didn't expect was the cozy scene he walks in on when he gets home from work.
I was a little disappointed that Laurie decided to leave and not directly confront Blaine, the snotty ex and Win, but it gave Win the chance to chase him down, and being stuck for hours in an elevator gave them a lot of time to reminisce about their past and where it started going wrong.

A nice story about two people who do not communicate well and risk losing each other. Some things worked really well for me, others didn't. But I loved the relationship between the two, and how they talked about what was happening. Sex was hot, too.

Sweet but short story about an established couple who forget to communicate and lose their way and also believe they've lost the love of the other. It takes them being locked together in a broken elevator for them to sit down and finally talk about why they are falling apart. It seemed so real, the reasons I could relate to and you feel the pain in both men. But, fortunately being trapped was what they both needed to re-establish that what they have is real...and sex in an elevator has never been hotter.

I usually like Cassandra Gold's stories so much more. But the set up for this one drove me mad. Stupid boys are stupid.

I’ll be honest I genuinely and truly hate reading stories about people on the cusp of the end. There are just too many endings in reality for me to find any interest in the fictionalized version. But in the case of Cassandra Gold’s “Going Down,” I can’t say I wasn’t forewarned, after all I’d read the synopsis. Shallow, as I can be at times - book and cover and all that other crap - and there you go and here I am. Well, coming back from my irrelevant tangent the story is ridiculously short so I figured the brevity would make it more palatable, like the ending credits being the saving grace of a bad movie. “Going Down,” is not that story. It’s a tale of two people in love, rediscovering, not just lust, but also the true connection they have. You’ve got to know I was pleasantly surprised to find the perfect symmetry between the cover and text - and there you go.

Laurie and Win's relationship is on the rocks, because they don't communicate. They both thought the other one wanted out. Lucky for them, they get stuck on an elevator and talk it out. A little steamy sex didn't hurt either.
