放課後のカリスマ #8

Afterschool Charisma, Vol. 8

Rate this book
St. Kleio Academy is a very exclusive school. To enroll, a student must be the clone of a famous historical figure. Wolfgang Mozart, Queen Elizabeth, Sigmund Freud, Marie Curie, Adolf Hitler—with such a combustible student body, it's only a matter of time before the campus explodes!

IKKYU SOJUN (1394–1481)
A Buddhist monk of the Rinzai school in the middle Muromachi period, Sojun was rumored to be the illegitimate son of Emperor Go-Komatsu. After leaving home in 1399 to enter the Ankoku-ji temple, in 1410 he became the student of an abbot called Ken'o at Saikin-ji temple. There he was given the name "Sojun." He was known for his poetry, comical tanka poems, calligraphic works, and eccentricities. Many stories of Sojun’s legendary wit were composed after his death.

I continue to find this series a great subject for discussion in several types of courses; history, science, literature, and philosophy just to name a few. The topics of fulfillment and purpose, and ethics, repeatedly pose thoughts of consideration for the reader that will have them teetering and tottering but without dissatisfaction of feeling so.

In short, it remains fascinating and enticing.

Volume 8 has the scandal of backstabbing, by new and old faces, as well as redemption for others. The topic that has been on the minds of all the clones and originals is, also, FINALLY stated in this volume. What is unexpected is who states it; "Cloning a person isn't the same as reincarnating them. Cloning a person doesn't bring back their soul." - Rasputin (137).

Yes, you read that correctly. Regardless, I am glad he said it.

Volume 9 is on deck, and volumes 10-12 are on order. Let the aftermath of the conflict in Volume 8 begin!

In this volume, chapters 43-48, Shiro comes to some important realizations about trust and friendship. It's good to see him growing as a character. I, like his "father" have faith that he will be able to make a difference and change the state of things. And it's nice to see the man behind the disaster scenes given his just desserts. Something I like about this series is the twists that come in each volume. I never know what is going to come next. It keeps the suspense up and hooks me into wanting to read more for sure. The great artwork helps in that manner as well. I do recommend this series.

Hmmm. This didn't have a ton of action, but it did have betrayal. How DaVinci was punished was truly devious. And we get to see Rasputin again (albeit briefly), which was nice. You really need to pay attention reading this series, and this volume imo was setting up the drama yet to unfold. I'm curious to find out what Mr. Kuroe's backstory is, so I hope that's coming up.

Shiro and Marie Curie run away from the academy.

This volume was a bit better because it was fun to watch Shiro and Marie deal with being out in the 'real world'. They are saved by Jesus Christ - well, at least a homeless man who calls himself that, and end up at a soup kitchen before they are forcibly taken back.

Since there are only four more volumes in this series, I plan to finish it out.

Is anyone else confused by this series or is it just me? Maybe it's the amount of characters and the fact that there are multiples, but I find the plot hard to follow at times. There's a lot of subterfuge and behind-the-scenes politics at play as well, which makes following the plot and the characters that do or don't support St. Kleio's difficult. I'm not particularly attached to this series, but since it's so short I think I'll finish it out. It has it's ups and downs and I am curious to see what befalls Shiro after this volume.

Shiro and Marie run away only to be brought in again the next day. The interviewer continues to observe the Academy. Shiro must figure out what his role is to be while Clone Hitler pushes himself upon the masses.

This series had such a promising start, and the first big event and its aftermath (way back in volumes 3-5) was awesome. Since then, it has gone downhill, and I sincerely hope it starts moving again. The last few volumes have been little much than filler and do not progress the story that well. I want the action and pizzazz back! I've heard the characters discuss over and over again the conflicts and taboos behind clones and the world's view on the school. Now do something about it!

This is like the episodes in Walking Dead where everyone spends an episode talking about their ideals and abstract concepts. I'm chill with that. Imagining the public running into Barnes & Noble demanding the bestseller "Clone Hitler" is quite enough for me.

I'm completely obsessed with this series, can't wait for Volume 9.

Felt a bit like filler without much plot advancement. But then again, maybe it's because I read vol 7 so long ago.
