Hunters are a special breed, dedicated to tracking down treasures, magical beasts, and even other people. But such pursuits require a license, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the grueling qualification exam. Those who do pass gain access to restricted areas, amazing stores of information, and the right to call themselves Hunters.

JOINING THE FRAY
The time has come for the Hunter Association to choose a new chairman, but it’s shaping up to be anything but a clean election. While the world’s Hunters descend into dirty politics, Gon remains hospitalized in critical condition. Killua knows of a way to save him, but it will mean facing his deadly family of assassins…and the deadliest and strangest of them all, Killua’s little sibling Alluka…

This volume started off strong but became way too long winded for my liking by the end.

Aside from Killua's friendship with Gon, his relationship with Alluka is also one of my favorite part in HxH. I admire how Killua was so determined on saving both Alluka and Gon. He was not just the very ideal best friend, he was also the best brother anyone could have. He was such a sweet, loving and protective brother to Alluka and their status was like 'you and me against the whole world'. It was so messed up to know that no one other than Killua treated Alluka as a family member and treasured her so dearly. Killua was also the only one who sees her as a girl. It was just because of Illumi's needle that he completely forgot about her sister. This part of the arc was so precious to me.

I love this part of Hunter x Hunter anime and manga, Alluka is an interesting character and her/his relationship with Killua is beautiful, I mean the way he recognises and protects her, it melts my heart, really, who wouldn't love to have Killua as a brother?

Really enjoyed reading the manga, it doesn't differ much from the anime so you are not missing anything if you preferred watching the anime over reading it.

I'm reading the last three Volumes of Hunter x Hunter to catch up with the events of the latest volume. However, I still enjoy the story and Togashi's art, hope he gets well soon and continue writing.

- I hate seeing Killua crying, wth he has been crying ALOT recently.. stop it-

Now I'm gladly going to start the next volume.. so excited to read about the reunion of Gon and Ging!

Dang, the manga has been going so long (with plenty hiatuses) that Killua has a tablet when two arcs ago we were playing a copyright-safe knockoff of the original Playstation.

Anyway, I'm not particularly invested in the Election itself, as earlier chapters haven't really established the politics of the Hunter Association well enough for me to care outside of the Chimera Ant mission. That said, I dig the re-introduction of Leorio, when he (finally) uses Nen to punch Ging, earning him favor among the other random hunters, keeping him high in the rankings throughout the entire Election. Pretty funny. Otherwise, I feel the stuff with Killua and Alluka and Illumi and Hisoka is the superior story (as brainlet as that might sound, for favoring the story that lends itself more easily to battles), but they manage to intersect near the end of the volume so that's nice. Props to Killua for deciding to use the Election's anti-Netero faction's desire to change the Hunter bylaws as a way of getting people to retard Illumi's pursuit of his younger siblings. And the Hunters afraid of Illumi's large army, not aware it's really just Hisoka by himself. And of course you get the good ol' dynamic of Hisoka and Illumi being frenemies while Hisoka wants to kill Killua but also not-kill him so Gon could be healed so he can kill Killua and Gon later, but also because it would be fun to kill Alluka to piss Killua off and Killua to piss Illumi off (and he gets a pretty good rapeface when he makes that last decision!).

Really, this volume is just The Hisoka Show, and it's pretty great for it. Always an entertaining character. Really missed him throughout the Chimera Ant arc, but that story allowed more minor characters the chance to shine. The same continues here, with the Zoldyck butlers showing off their abilities (even if it's just for Hisoka and Illumi to kill them). I guess Gotoh was in the Zoldyck Family arc ages ago, but I can't remember that so well, and anyway I believe Togashi's art-style, paneling, and composition have vastly improved over time, so Gotoh flexing his coin attacks here against Hisoka is far more interesting than it may have been so long ago.

And it's pretty interesting that Hunter x Hunter is more or less the only shounen battle manga where a car crash is a valid means of deterring the heroes.

****

EDIT (11/05/2024): I've burned out on re-reading again. Hell, I've burned out already on the new batch of chapters! Decided to resume today on a whim, and realized, somewhat cheekily, that it's Election Day.

Anyway, fights:
(Leorio versus Ging)
(Illumi, Hisoka, and needle-people versus butlers in cars)
Hisoka versus Gotoh
(Hisoka versus voters)
(Hisoka versus no-name candidates)

Not really an action volume.

I am so unbelievably intrigued by this volume, because we have the reveal of a new character - Kil's sibling Alluka who, up until now, hasn't been mentioned once by anyone? They definitely seem to be immensely powerful (if not in the "usual" way) and there's a lot of mystery around them and who (or what?) they are, so I really want to know what the reasoning is behind all of this...

The election is still running in the background, and Leorio is suddenly a frontrunner to become the chairman of the Hunter's Association for no other reason than he punched Ging in the face which is honestly the best reasoning ever (....just how hated IS Ging, anyways?)

Oh and bonus? Hisoka's backkkkkk 8D

ok so i lied, i wasn’t done

but in my defense!! this was a very killua-centric volume and there was so fun/interesting gender stuff going on that distracted from the boring election nonsense

This volume was quite a fun read. Alternating between Killua's adventure to get Alluka to Gon, and the politics of the 13th Chairman Election, we learn more about both the Zoldyck family and how the Hunter Association really works.

It was fun to see Leorio again, and I completely understood his feelings towards Gin. Anyway, I can't wait for Gon to come back and see what kind of state he'll be in.

13th Hunter Chairman Election arc I
Politics and disagreements in the Hunter Association for the succession.. but who cares? The star of the show is Killua!! The Zoldycks are a group of rotten psychos and control freaks. The fact that Killua was born into such a family is really cruel.
In this volume, we are let in on a secret of the Zoldycks, we get to witness the sweetest version of Killua as well as an intrafamily disagreement...

Hisoka's character design looked more casual in this volume and I liked it so much better. He looked like an actual person, and I admittedly do love he and Illumi's comedy routine

I enjoyed the dive into politics in this volume. The dynamics are interesting, particularly with my boy Leorio. Seeing Ging take up so much "screentime" feels surreal after all the build up. Killua and his relationship with Alluka melts my heart. So did the way all of the ally characters returned to support Gon. There are so many returning faces, which makes me realize just how much I've come to love the world and cast of Hunter x Hunter. It crept up on me, but I'm fully in love with this world now. I also really liked seeing Illumi and Hisoka pop back up again. I almost wish Togashi would take things a bit slower so we can revel in the returns and the political games between the zodiacs and Pariston.

Pariston felt all too real in his level of disingenuous, selfish, nihilistic political obstructionism. But I am disappointed that this is portrayed in the story as an individual character flaw or quirk, rather than a part of the system that is materially rewarded (as it is in the real world). Either way, I appreciate that the Hunter's Association as an organization is being fleshed, with all too real problems in management, imperialism, and control.

KILLUA AND ALLUKA ARE SO CUTE OHMYGOSH sorry. I'm good. I'm fine. Had to get that out of my system. Anyway, really good volume. Glad to see Illumi and Hisoka taking the spotlight again. And this election sub plot is interesting too. I didn't expect Leorio to come back so soon let alone have a shot at being Hunter Chairman. Really cool stuff.

4.2 - the Hunter Election is rather dull but Killua and Alluka's story is sooo entertaining. I love getting more Zoldyck family as well as seeing more of the butlers.

This book was interesting getting into the middle point of it . This volume brung back a lot of the old characters throughout the series . I find the old characters interesting because u do not know their full strength and potential . They seem to be the strongest in the whole book , and the author introduces they’re secret powers . Kilua is trying to save Gon and it interesting because you really don’t know why hisoka and his brother is trying to stop him they don’t make that clear . That’s one thing I don’t like and it throws this book off a little .

This arc feels nothing like Chimera Ant and much more like early hunter (late exam - early York New) and I absolutely love it. Alluka is such a great character and seeing how much Killua cares about her is just so good. And seeing again how fucked up Killuas Family actually is also a lot of fun. And Leorio returning was so cool. He is such a great character and I hope to see more of him in the future.

Killua relationship with Alluka is also one of my favorite part in HxH. He is the best and my favorit character. He's such a sweet, loving and protective brother to Alluka and treasured her so dearly. This part of the arc was so precious to me, If had more time with them than politics things, it would definitely be a five star. I hate seeing Killua crying, Togashi, you make me suffer every time you make Killua suffer.

This new arc I'm finding quite interesting (plus it's nice to see Leorio again after such a long time- despite Kurapika still being MIA). While I'm not a big fan of the whole election debacle- it is well done and holds my attention with the inclusion of Leorio. What I'm way more excited about is Killua's family dynamics with the new sibling introduced and their powers. I'm supper excited where this arc is heading!

Apparently Killua can be friendly with someone who isn't Gon! Who knew? These two are so cute together. This election thing is going over my head though, I really don't see why I'm supposed to care about it. Surely something has to happen as a result but that's a lot of story being dedicated to something I give no shits about.
