कहानी अच्छी है. Twists अच्छे हैं. Ending ने surprise किया. लेकिन भाई, औरतों से इतनी व्यक्तिगत दुश्मनी क्यों?
अगर इस किताब में misogyny और बेवजह की vulgarity थोड़ी कम होती, तो मैं आराम से इसे 4 stars दे देती।
Plot के मामले में किताब genuinely engaging है। कहानी बार-बार ऐसी जगह मुड़ती है जहाँ लगता है, अच्छा, अब ये कहाँ जा रही है? और ending तो मैंने बिल्कुल expect नहीं की थी। उस point पर किताब ने मुझे अच्छे से चकमा दिया, जिसके लिए credit बनता है।
लेकिन फिर वही पुरानी pulp-fiction बीमारी। किसी female character को morally questionable दिखाना है? ठीक है।
उसने crime किया? बताइए।
Manipulation किया? बताइए।
Murder किया? बिल्कुल बताइए।
लेकिन फिर अचानक उसका blouse, figure, drinking habit, relationships, कपड़ों की लंबाई, चाल-ढाल और पूरी social life FIR में क्यों शामिल हो जाती है?
मतलब मैडम ने crime किया है और narrator का concern है: "लेकिन देखिए, उसके कपड़े बहुत छोटे थे।"
जी हाँ। बिल्कुल। Murder investigation रोकिए। पहले neckline नापते हैं।
पुराने pulp fiction में कई बार ऐसा लगता है कि कोई औरत अगर freely जी रही है, अपनी sexuality को लेकर comfortable है, drink करती है या multiple relationships रखती है, तो किताब तुरंत घंटी बजा देती है: "CHARACTERLESS WOMAN DETECTED"
अब उसके crime का motive कुछ भी हो, उसके कपड़े somehow supporting evidence बन जाते हैं। और यही चीज़ irritate करती है।
अगर कोई character बुरा है तो उसे उसके actions की वजह से बुरा बनाइए। उसके lifestyle को moral science का chapter बनाने की क्या ज़रूरत है?
अब कहानी पर आते हैं।
Audiobook surprisingly addictive थी। मैं लगातार सुनती रही क्योंकि genuinely जानना था कि आगे क्या होगा। यह Surendra Mohan Pathak की strength है। उनके plots में एक ऐसा curiosity-hook होता है कि आप सोचते हैं: "बस पाँच मिनट और।"
लेकिन अब मुझे उनकी books में एक pattern भी दिखने लगा है।
Book का पहला 70%: "किसने किया? क्यों किया? यह आदमी कौन है? वह औरत क्या छिपा रही है?"
Book का आखिरी 30%: "अब आप धीरे-धीरे वही सब explain कर दीजिए जो हमने 50 pages पहले solve कर लिया था।"
Mstery पहले खत्म हो जाती है और किताब बाद में।
एक point के बाद interest, story जानने में कम और अपनी theory verify करने में ज़्यादा रह जाता है।
मतलब अब मैं detective novel नहीं पढ़ रही। मैं अपना answer sheet check कर रही हूँ।
तो कुल मिलाकर, कहानी gripping है, twists अच्छे हैं, audiobook मज़ेदार है और ending genuinely effective है।
लेकिन misogyny, unnecessary vulgar descriptions और female characters के कपड़ों पर narrator की forensic-level interest ने experience खराब किया।
और हाँ, अगली बार अगर किसी महिला character ने murder किया हो तो please उसके murder पर focus कर लेना। उसकी skirt निर्दोष है।

One of the best book written by Pathak Sir. It is for the first time we see main character of series Sunil, the reporter who is famous for his gentleness, is being attracted to the beauty of a lady.

The usual, but the plot points and characters seem derivative of some old English novel (Possibly Chase or someone in the same vein). All the plotting and planning by the 'villain' does not make sense as there was a much simpler way to achieve their objective🤷♂️(spoiler ahead)

पूरी कहानी सहजपाल के डरने और अनुपमा के इर्द-गिर्द घूमती है जिसमें बलदेवराज का किरदार काफी रोचक है.
वैसे मुझे सुनील की खोजबीन थोड़ी ज्यादा लगी फिर उसका मिसेज़ सहजपाल के हाथ से चाबी निकालना और पूरी किताब में चंद्रपाल का कुछ ना कर पाना हजम नहीं हुआ.
कुल मिलाकर अच्छा थ्रीलर है और कहानी बहुत ही पसंद आयी और जरूर पढ़ी जानी चाहिए 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Blade raja strong carector police man daresay gaya hai, jo paradise ko baksta nahi hai, use uske karmo ki saja deta hai, naki kanuni karya which ke liye chho deta hai,ki badge wah apne paise ke jor per ya lambs kanuni karwahi ke bad ba ijjat chhut Jaye.
Bahut badhiya kahani hai.
Jindagi ki sachchayi bayan ki gayi hai.

Jadugarani is one of those awesome whodunits. Mystery is well maintained. The suspence keeps you on the toes. Most of the times, I notice the clues in SMPs novels which helps identify the culprit, or at least I start to get an inkling of who it might be, well in advance of Sunil. This is one of the rare novels, where I had to stop reading and take stock of what has happened, who are the main characters, how they fit in to the present scenarios, who could be lieing, etc and then come to the conclusion identifying the murderer. It really took a little thought put into this to identify who that was. It's so well hidden in the story! I also figured out why Prabhudayal was replaced with another inspector in this story. It was clear there were going to be some things which (and what) he was going to do. One thing that I feel that does not go well with the character is that of Mantriji. I can't get my head around the fact that he would prioritize self preservation to the life of his beloved daughters.
I would have rated this book 5 star, except for the narration, which is below 2 stars, that's why I rated here 4.
Having said that, I must say that SMP's Sunil series novels are great. We need all of them to be converted into audiobooks here.
Audible needs to get a better narrator. Sameer Goswami has a great voice. But great voice with good timber are not the only requirements for a good narrator. A great narrator needs ability to modulate his voice, and most importanly he needs to be able to emote. Goswami does neither of those, Even when the story says the character said the sentence in some particular way, he does not do it. For example, when the script says the speaker shouted, he reads it as if saying with gritting teeth. He narrates in almost monotone. His focus to enunciate each word results in unnatural reading. For example, he pronounced 'Cold drink' as 'colduh dreenk'. Often he reads in Arabi accent, for example when he reads, "wo bola". If you've listened to any of the Audible audiobooks, you'll spot the difference in his performance. I mean I'm not saying he has to be as great as Ray Porter, but he can be at least an average narrator who can emote and modulate.
Audible, please please convert all of the SMP's Sunil and Sudhir series novels, but use a better narrator.
