“Canyoneering: A Guide to Techniques for Wet and Dry Canyons” is probably the best (perhaps the only) book out there which describes canyoneering specific rope techniques. The book is put together nicely with lots of illustrative photos. The book is not comprehensive though – you’ll want to pair it with a book of climbing knots and isn’t quite as descriptive as I’d like in outlining some techniques (based on the photos and text it would be fairly difficult to figure out how to rig a haul system for example). All-in-all, it’s a good overview. Just keep in mind that you can’t learn canyoneering from a book, you have to do it, preferably in the company of some more experienced people who can show you the ropes.
Great book. If you want learn and or brush up on your technical canyoneering skills this is a great book. Lots of information, knots, rescue, equipment... A must read for all canyoneers. David Black is Mr. Canyoneer in the canyon world.
