About the author

Sue was born in Northampton where she still lives. For many years she worked for Northamptonshire libraries and remains a passionate supporter of Public Libraries. Sue loves everything about books, the feel of them, their smell. the way they look. And has a habit of matching a bookmark to the cover of each book she's reading. The process of reading, the feel of the book, carrying it around in her shoulder bag, sitting in favourite cafes reading all make for a complete sensory experience.
Browsing bookshops old and new, talking all things bookish with other book lovers, spending time with other writers and meeting with fans of her own books at author events are her favourite things. That and eating good quality dark chocolate, while writing.

My daughter shared another Sue Bentley book with me, and I'm glad she did! This was a cute book about a magical puppy who's definitely more-than-meets-the-eye. I loved the details of the Norwegian coastline and the of the Sami people's culture. I look forward to doing some more research on this region and these people with my daughter. My only criticism of the book is I feel the ending fell a little flat.

In this book Robyn goes on a Christmas cruise with her parents but gets very seasick. So she wanted to get out of bed but she still wasn’t feeling good so when she did she fell down but then she was about to hit the floor she felt like she fell of a soft cushion. Then she heard a little voice with magic. Then she saw a little dog named storm who could talk and had the magic to save her. Then he told her that he was actually a wolf and needed to get strong to go back home and lead his pack. Robyn took him everywhere with all her new friends and loved him so much even when he had to go back home.

This book had good figurative language. One example is when it said, “Howl rose into the air.” The second one is, “Bushes clung to the ground.” The next one is, “Storms breath caught his throat.” Another one is, ”Paws thudding up the hill.” The last one is when Robyn says, “I’m stuck here in bed.”

I liked lots of things about this book. One of them is that I really liked the story. I also liked how it was realistic but not realistic because storm could talk and had magic. I also liked how she met lots of friends and got to be with her cultures. One thing I didn’t like was it could have had a little more exciting stories in it but overall it was a good book.

A magical adventure set around the christmas holidays.

Robyn was enjoying a family holiday cruising on a ship around Norway when Storm the little magic talking puppy suddenly appeared.

Storm was really a magificent silver grey wolf using the cute puppy as a disguise. Robyn must help him keep safe against Shadow the wolf challenging him as leader of the pack.

I found the prologue interesting as it was about Storms life before he meets Robyn.

I think this book is cool because the puppy found Robyn at her house .I didn’t like the part when two dogs try to catch the puppy.The puppy’s name is Storm.I liked the story because Robyn took Storm on a cruise ship . I don’t like when a girl steals something at the store but Storm comes with his magic so only Robyn could see and hear Storm. Robyn and Storm love the cruise. I am starting the magic reindeer next.

As an adult, I feel like these books are trite, mass-produced Mary Sue schlock. As a kid, my daughter loves them and wants to investigate the sister series for Magic Pony, Magic Kitten, and Magic Bunny. At least it was the sort of book where you know exactly what you’re going to get: pleasant, low-pressure, feel-good holiday reading.

My son and I read this together. He really liked it, and I enjoyed reading a surface representation of Norway and the Sami culture. This is the first book we read from the series, so the background about wolves and the reason for magic was a tiny bit confusing and/or not necessary, but other than that, it was a pleasant story that my son enjoyed.

A very cute children's story that will appeal to anyone who loves animals, magic, Christmas, or cruise stories.
A different animal, disguised as a cute puppy, befriends a young girl and they have wonderful times together. I will read more of Sue Bentley's books.
