Only a week has passed since the events of Would-Be Witch, and there's no chance of the world slowing down for Tammy Jo's sake.

She's barely come into her magic, but Tammy soon finds out that even the most well-intentioned newbie witch will be held responsible for spells gone awry. She's got visitors who are supposed to help her prepare for a magical licensing test, but nothing is ever simple where Tammy's involved.

In Barely Bewitched, Tammy Jo continues to be a likable, quirky little thing, while Bryn Lyons shows more and more of his true colors. (And those colors are as fabulous as the bright sapphire blue of his eyes.)

The rest of the town members appear again in all their insane glory, made ever more crazy by a heap of faery dust swirling through the air. Mix their raucous behaviour with murderous wizards, vengeful fae, and Tammy's wonky powers, and the poor girl is once more running around like a chicken without a head in her bid to save everyone.

The pace is fast and the writing is witty. Compared to the last book, Tammy still spends all her time on the go, but her thoughts are more organized and she's trusting her own instincts more. Frost's writing seems more cohesive and the plot lacks that ADD quality of Would-Be Witch.

Tamara is a fun heroine to follow and I eagerly anticipate the next book, but three things irk me:

Firstly, she should be a lot more indignant over Zach's treatment of her. I want her to have more stick-to-it-iveness when it comes to him, and the ending perpetuates a love triangle I'm already tired of. However, some game-changing realizations are made in this book, so I'll reserve judgment until I see how they play out.

The second gripe is that Tammy never questions one big detail: Why has she been commanded to keep away from the Lyons family? Any sort of blind obedience drives me insane. Even though Tammy is not doing a great job following that rule, she still thinks of it at the most inopportune and hurtful moments. It's getting ever so very old, and is a plot contrivance that had better be resolved in the next book.

Finally, Frost apparently doesn't believe in writing naughty scenes. That's fine, but the resulting description of intimacy reads like a pure metaphysical event and is terribly unsatisfying.

Despite these issues, I enjoy wacky, Armageddon-prone Duvall and I'm still anxious to read about the next mess Tammy gets into.

Kimberly Frost comes into her own with this novel. Would-Be Witch was a decent start, but a little raw and it felt a touch... undefined. Barely Bewitched takes that start and fleshes out both the characters and the setting.

The heroine, Tammy Jo, feels comfortably authentic, both as a witch and as a Southern girl from Texas—and maybe just a little bit more. In this book we get much of her back story as well as Bryn's (the hunky wizard from the swank part of town). But even better, we see some growth in Zach (the ex-husband who clearly chafes at being ex) as he finds himself unable to protect the woman he clearly still loves from forces he is increasingly unable to explain away.

The action in this book is ramped up considerably, as well, as we begin to see the cracks under the world we consider reality. Wizards sent to town to test Tammy Jo for membership are only the start of her troubles. I really hate the arrogant magical communities so many authors impose on their characters and I was disappointed to find them arrive in Duvall and start commanding Tammy Jo around. Fortunately, Tammy Jo doesn't waste a lot of time kowtowing to the interlopers and they quickly submerge into just one of many of the things creating stress for Tammy Jo as Duvall nears Halloween and almost certain doom. It was refreshing to me to see such over-regulating egotists called on their arrogance and tyranny and a heroine that isn't afraid to resist when someone demands unquestioning compliance.

The novel's only detraction, for me, is what feels like just another romantic triangle. Zach and Bryn continue to compete for Tammy Jo's affection, though never directly. This has become such a cliche in the genre that even Frost's deft handling of it can't escape the feel of forumla. The steamy scenes are fun, and the relationship tension is a net bonus to the story, but the longer these things get drawn out, the less enjoyable they become as well. I can't help but hope that Frost will have the guts to resolve this romantic tension sooner rather than later.

If a book can have too much conflict and action, this one would qualify. There were times I had to step away from the book because too much was going on. Wizard organizations, back-stabbing frenemies, fairies, hobgoblins, fire starters, vampire, ex-husband, seances, spells, overgrown gardens, murder--and probably the kitchen sink. I don't know how she pulled it off, but Tammy Jo saved the town of Duvall once again.

If I had one complaint, it would be Tammy Jo and her torn between two lovers bit. I'm no fan of love triangles but if they're done well, I can tolerate them. But I'm losing patience with Tammy and her cheating ways.

But I am riveted and at this point, I'm going to continue with the series.

Another wonderfully witchy installment in the Southern Witch series!

Tammy Jo may be an "all-occassion cryer" but she is definitely one of my favorite characters. How can you not fall in love with the sassy redhead that is never short of witty Southern sayings? And Bryn! He is the definition of dark and mysterious and I was so glad we got to see him more in the second book and less of the over-bearing Zach.

This book made me laugh out loud on many occasions and definitely left me wanting more! These books are fast-paced and filled with lovable, quirky characters. Perhaps envisioning a town high on Pixie dust seems far-fetched but Kimberly Frost can tell one heck of a story. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves paranormal books.

I have no idea where my review went for this one so here I am making this up on the sly.

I love this series and even though there is a dreaded love triangle, it is one of those rare cases where it some how works with the characters, the storyline, and the series. Throw in sexual tension, magical mayhem, a mystery, and that wonderful small town feel and you really do have a fantastic fun read that I just couldn't get enough of.

Once again I was eagerly turning the pages and just couldn't get enough. I am so excited and so happy that I discovered this series and am eager to dive back into it after an extended break.

This series is the literary equivalent of a big bag of skittles. Too sweet by half, and bad in every other way. Yet, if you put it in front of me, I will eat it.

Oh, and I still hate Zach.

Waouh, devinez... tome trois, me voilà Presque ensorcelée !

The misadventures of Tammy Jo Trask continue in this second book of the Southern Witch series. If you haven't read the first book, Would-Be Witch, you really should. In fact, I highly recommend the entire series. Tammy Jo is a firecracker with hair to match. Although I'm no fan of Texas, the colorful southern similes are a joy to read.

Tammy's ocelot sidekick is a perfect match as her familiar. If there's a fight to fight, Mercutio is ready and willing. Mercutio was found floating down the river (on driftwood, I believe) and we find out more of his back-story in this book. I hate to say this, but I think Mercutio is smarter than most of the citizens of Duvall (the ones in the book, not the real ones). unfortunately, it takes Tammy a long time to understand this fact.

This book is like Murphy's Law run amuck. Just when you think Tammy Jo is about to make headway, BAM! a new predicament presents itself. In this book, Tammy Jo must deal with a holier-than-thou prima donna, answer to WAM (the World Association of Magic), steal back the family jewels (the gemstone type - not the other thing), battle fairies, overcome an explosion of pixie dust, and save Bryn Lyons (the one who's supposed to be saving her). To make matters worse, Tammy has powerful magic she's not supposed to have and can't control.

Despite Tammy dysfunctional magic, she has one redeeming quality that saves her behind more than once. She can shoot the fleas off the backside of a dog. That is the one and only thing she can thank Zach for.

There has been much criticism over the Tammy's love triangle with Zach (her ex) and Bryn (the handsome, rich, warlock). People forget that Tammy and Zach were together for a long, long, time (since childhood). She knows he's not right for her, but that kind of thing requires time to re-adjust. Bryn, on the other hand, is that yummy piece of gourmet chocolate you know you shouldn't eat, but you can't help yourself. To make matters worse, the Lyons family is specifically mentioned as a no-no in a family prophecy - and the ones who made that prophecy were never wrong. The first book and this one only span days, not months, so give Tammy a break. She needs time. More time than transpires in this book.

I do have a problem with Jenna Reitgarten. I know I'm supposed to hate the nemesis, but seriously, what that woman pulls would get most people behind bars. Even the daughter of a small town mayor couldn't get away with some of the stuff she pulls. Eventually, she does get a piece of what she deserves, but I'm sorry to say, she isn't killed. Jenna is the only reason why my rating is four stars instead of five.

"Barely Bewitched" (Berkley, 312 pages, $14) by Kimberly Frost: Tammy Jo Trask comes from a long line of witches who have drawn power from the earth. Their abilities appear at 17, but late bloomer Tammy Jo, 23, is only now realizing hers. Most of the time, her spells do more harm than good.

In Kimberly Frost's debut, "Would-be Witch," Tammy Jo was forced to use magic to rid her small Texas town of a reckless zombie, fight off some nasty werewolves and save the soul of Edie, the family ghost. [It is recommended that you start with this book first. You will get to know more of the history between the characters. It's also a quick easy read and at $14, you can't go wrong.:]

In "Barely Bewitched," Tammy Jo must now answer to the World Association of Magic for her illegal use of witchcraft. To avoid punishment (torture or death), she must complete a difficult challenge. Two powerful wizards have been assigned to train her.

When she's not in training sessions, Tammy Jo must save the town from a toxic spill of pixie dust, prevent an army of mischievous fairies from causing havoc, steal back some family jewels and save Bryn Lyons, a wizard with whom she shares a magical spark.

Simply put,"Barely Bewitched" is a fun ride. Forget about the plot, it's all over the place, like a hurried soccer mom with a long to-do list. You will not be disappointed by Frost's colorful characters and witty dialogue.

Tammy Jo is kooky and charming in a down-home, girl-next-door kind of way. You are guaranteed to chuckle and marvel at the funny phrases, "What in the Sam Houston!", and Tammy's addiction to Hershey's miniatures.

You can't help but get drawn into her budding love triangle between Bryn Lyons, a gorgeous wizard with a hidden agenda, and Zach Sutton, her Longhorn-loving ex-husband, who acts like he’s still in the picture.

Zach didn’t believe his wife after she told him she could see Edie, the ghost of her great-great grandmother’s sister. It had been a sore spot in their marriage when he sent her to a psychiatrist.

Bryn, who is experienced in the magical arts, wants to become her mentor. They are able to merge their powers when they "merge" their bodies. (The one who siphons energy from the other becomes stronger.)

Other characters adding to the fun include Tammy Jo's ocelot sidekick Mercutio (who’s saved her hide more than a few times), Vietnamese salon owner and amateur psychic Johnny Nguyen Ho, who, along with his vampire lover Roland, make a flashy pair. And lastly, there’s her nemesis Jenna Reitgarten. She won’t be happy until Tammy Jo leaves town for good.

Frost tells a great tale while leaving unanswered questions for future installments. She is currently working on her third book of this series.

Barely Bewitched was a fun, magical mess. Tammy Jo, the southern witch with powers that don't seem to work properly, has been found guilty for her illegal use of magic she and Bryn performed when they rid the town of the werewolves last week. The World Association of Magic (WAM) Conclave sends Jordan Perth, a wizard sent to assist her in training for her Initial Challenge. If she "should fail to comply with the completion of the Initial Challenge ... {she} will be subject to incarceration or extermination." In addition to Mr. Perth, Incendio, a fire starter who has a history with the women of Tammy Jo's family, is sent to help. Incendio has a wild temper and believes he's above the law, human and witch.

She continues to fight with Jenna Reitgarten, the obnoxious girl who stole her family's jewelry. Jenna is determined to get Tammy Jo to leave the town. Tammy Jo cursed Jenna with the hiccups, which she's still suffering from after one week. TJ's determined to get her jewelry back and decides she has to take matters into her own hands.

She's still in an on-again off-again relationship with her ex-husband, sheriff, Zach. Neither one of them can let go even knowing how badly things were when they were married. Tammy's growing and changing in ways that Zach has a hard time understanding. But, he's always around trying to keep her safe. TJ can't get over her physical attraction to him. Edie, her ghostly aunt and Mercutio, her cat, are there to help her as she gets herself into and out of trouble throughout the story. Her relationship with Bryn grows more complicated as they work together to try to find a way out of trouble with WAM. He brings out the magic in her and she helps him do things no one else can.

I enjoyed Barely Bewitched a lot more than Would-Be Witch due to the increased interaction between TJ and Bryn and the discovery of some interesting realizations about TJ's history/family.

I look forward to reading book 3, Halfway Hexed, next year.

Brand-new witch Tammy Jo has unfortunately attracted the attention of WAM, or the World Association of Magic. They're demanding that she has to be pass a test before she can actually practice magic. The funny thing is, Tammy Jo is not really interested in practicing magic to begin with, she's happy being a pastry chef. Much to her dismay, the people at WAM are not giving her a choice - she has to pass her test or she risks being, well, terminated, if you know what I mean. The Association has sent a wand-wielding wizard named Jordan and a psycho fire warlock named Incendio to train her and get her ready for the test she has to pass. Or so they say.

Tammy Jo's being told by WAM to stay away from Bryn Lyons, a mage she's incredibly attracted to, although she's still on and off with her ex-husband, Zach. Staying away from Bryn proves more difficult than anything when she accidentally unleashes a curse on the town, which leads to a toxic spill of pixie dust. Next thing you know, there's naked people dancing around being mischievous and Tammy has to find a way to get the town back to normal. But she can't do so alone and she needs Bryn to help her. So between WAM trying to rule her life, her town going nuts and trying not to jump Bryn's sexy bones, Tammy Jo's got her hands full!

Barely Bewitched is the second installment in Frost's Southern Witch Novels. It's a very funny book and easy read! From beginning to end, Tammy Jo's adventures kept me on my toes and wondering what was going to happen next. It was hilarious how when she tried to make it better, she ended up making worse! Considering this is the second book in the series, I was a little wary that I would be a bit lost since I haven't read the first book, Would-Be Witch, but I'm glad to report that wasn't the case at all. There's definitely enough back-story for the reader to understand what's going on and why. I thought Barely Bewitched to be a very entertaining story and I'm definitely reading the next Tammy Jo book!

Tammy Joe Trask is back for more trouble and more people / creatures trying to kill her. At the end of Would-Be Witch, Tammy Jo has finally came into powers, well... sort of, she was successful in giving her arch nemesis, Jenna, a hiccup hex. But after a week of uneventful days and night she received a letter from the World Association of Magic. Apparently our resident handsome wizard and lawyer Bryn Lyons was found at fault by siding and casting spells along side Tammy Jo and the authorities found her guilty and/or dangerous therefore has summoned her to do a challenge to basically defend her life. To make it look fair, they have sent in a British guy named Jonathan and a fire trigger happy, and her Aunt's ex-lover named Incendio to teach her. But is that really their purpose? To prepare for this training Tammy Joe decided to cast a spell and ask for earth's power only to unleash an armageddon. Thus slightly opening the door of the Never (faery world) unleashing hobgoblins, nasty changeling, horticulture horrors and pixie dust covering her town trapping them inside.

As usual Tammy Jo was running around town dodging murderous wizard, sleazebag neighbors and saving the day. I am so happy that Bryn and her are getting really close. There are a lot of significant situations in this book that will probably lead them into teaming up more. Aside from all the chaos they both discovered that they are half witch half something else. It explains a lot about why Tammy Jo's magic is all wonky and how her and Bryn survived a sure death scene. And at last... Zach has finally came in to terms that Tammy Jo's claim of magic, ghost and everything else. And he is about to make up for ever doubting her and thinking she's a bit crazy by going into training, so he could protect her more. I am seriously torn on who is the best man for Tammy Jo, they both have excellent qualities and infuriating flaws, it is hard to predict at this point on who is she going to end up with. This series is getting really exciting. I can't wait for Halfway Hexed! Umm... when is it coming out anyway?

BARELY BEWITCHED by Kimberly Frost – Audio Release
http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/201...

It’s hard not to care about the means-well-but-gets-blamed-for-everything, Tammy-Jo Trask, and the nice men who inhabit her world. But even I don;t trust Bryn Lyons, whereas I am pretty sure Tammy’s ex-husband is THE ONE. But it’s also impossible to ignore her youth and immaturity. And, it’s hard to believe her ex is not a lot older than she is – he is considerably more mature.

But, as world building goes this world, where supes live alongside, but secretively, from humans feels developed by the seat of the pants. How to explain why a character doesn’t drown when the plot has him in the water – of course! he’s part water critter.

Flaws aside, I still want to know who Tammy Jo will end up with in this very Stephanie-Plum-Morelli-Ranger love triangle. And, I like to see Tammy Jo uncover more of her abilities without any real help. In this book, she really has to depend on herself and it is good to see her stand on her own, but not be so prideful she refuses to ask for help when necessary.

As far as the recording goes, I wanted to claw my ears out as a variety of horribly portrayed accents from posh-English to kind of Irish were relentlessly forced into my brain. STOP! I wanted to cry – if you cannot do the accent well just don’t do it. The accent on Tammy Jo is okay, but accents are not this reader’s forté. I have listened to one other book read by Amy Rubinate and had a similar issue with accents.

I really wish I had read this book instead of having listened to it. I think I would have liked it more. I know I like the print cover better. It least on the print covers (newly revised) the character looks like a woman of substance instead of a teenage hick. There’s nothing wrong with the way individual components are drawn, but the main character’s “likeness” does not work for this audio cover.

I loved this book. It sucked me in from the beginning and I had to fight myself to do my housework and oh, take care of my kids instead of reading. I gave up sleep so I could finish it since I couldn't give up the others.
Tammy Jo makes me laugh. I have this image in my head of this petite little red head that is a true firecracker. She loves her little town of Duval and she fiercely protects it and it's people. Big huge man that could squash her or light her on fire with a thought, is she scared - well, yeah she's scared but that doesn't stop her from trying to tackle him to stop him from messing with an underage girl. Continuously attack him.
This book was full of action, lots of fun to read and oh, have I mentioned the cat? Merc is an Ocelot, some form of housecat/junglecat mix that is not legal, but he is soooooo cool. He is the ultimate sidekick.
The men in Tammy Jo's life, Bryn and the hot hunky cowboy (brainfart, I can't remember his name), are simply delicious. I love Bryn. I love his persistence with her. He is my favorite, guess I'm Team Bryn, maybe that's why i can't remember the other ones name, it just doesn't matter to me. Now that doesn't mean I don't like him, his love for her is very apparent and real. BUT he is a true old fashioned Texas cowboy and Tammy Jo is not the kind of woman that likes to be 'the little misses' or to be tucked behind her man. She makes her own decisions and expects those decisions to be supported by her man, not knocked down or talked over or ignored. Hunky cowboy did all of this. Now he did get better by the end of the book, but I'm just hooked on Bryn so I think hunky cowboy needs to find him a regular human girl.
So, I loved the book and I can't wait till the next one.

Here we have the second installment in the Southern Witch series. Again Kimberly gives us a fun, easy and quick read. She continues to create her characters in such a funny and witty way. The story takes off just after book one does. What drove me to rate this book lower then the first was the love triangle the author kept up. It just became a little repetitive, but the rest of the story is good. Overall it continues to bring that sarcastic humor I loved in book one.

So this time around Tammy Jo is still of course learning how to do magic and she gets a paid visit from WAM (World Association of Magic). They offer he to become a full-fledged witch and Tammy Jo accepts. So WAM send her 2 warlocks to train her. Of course everything doesn't run easily with Tammy Jo, she gets cursed and spills fairy dust all over town. So then you can imagine the things that begin to take place in Duvall, TX. So she needs again the help of Bryn which of course she is prohibited to associate with him. So here is hoping that book three will answer some of my undealt with questions.

The sassy, sweet, and funny Tammy Jo is such a relatable heroine - she's so down to earth that it makes her and the quirky world that Frost has created very to imagine. Her Texas charm and creative mind make for some exciting antics and lend a refreshing air to a the oft repetitive paranormal romance genre. The equally quirky and endearing secondary characters help, or hinder, Tammy along the way.

The plot is great too. Tammy's a somewhat reluctant and bumbling witch-in-training who finds herself unsure of whom to trust. As if that weren't enough, she's being bombarded with back-to-back problems, both supernatural and completely human in nature.

Being a paranormal romance, of course there are two sexy guys in the mix as well. Tammy is still finding herself drawn to the sexy and powerful forbidden fruit that is Bryn Lyons in this installment. As he proves to be an indispensable aid for Tammy, we get to see that there is more to the man. Their feelings for one another seem to deepen exponentially and Tammy's ex-husband (and on-again, off-again boyfriend), Zach, finds himself under the threat of being edged out of her life.

This series has really grown on me. I love seeing Tammy Jo try to get on with her normal life, but keep getting interrupted with all the crazy magical things. This book had a ton going on in that department.

Tammy was finally able to get some answers about her father and where she comes from, which does explain why her magic seems to misfire. Tammy also seems to come to a resolution with Zach about what exactly is going on with them, which is good because I really like him and was mad at him for not believing her. There was more mayhem that only Merc, the cat, can only deal with. I love how Tammy talks to him like he can answer back and it seems like he does, just not with words. I am not sure what to think of Bryn, he doesn't always seem to have Tammy's best interests in mind only his own, and it seems to be only through luck that she hasn't been hurt more.

I think the repercussions of all of the different battles will have to be sorted out in the next book. There were things that happened that can no way be left undealt with especially with WAM.

This was a super easy read that went pretty quickly. It was odd that this book picked up literally within hours of the closing of book 1. As I was reading and getting annoyed with the love triangle that keeps rearing its ugly head, I had to remind myself that both books only encompass about 2 weeks time.

At first I really liked Tammy Jo's personality/attitude because she could definitely stand up for herself and tell someone to shove it when necessary, but this time she came off a bit more whiny. Granted she is in a crap load of trouble in this book, and in way over her head, but she seemed stronger than that in the first installment of the series.

Overall though it was a fun read. It was sassy, sarcastic, and humorous. The plot seems like one of those 'when it rains it pours' scenarios, so I can only imagine how much worse it is going to get for Tammy Jo in the upcoming novels!

read this and the first installment back-to-back. Literally put the first down and picked up the next. So some of the details sort of smushed together. I still think PNR isn't really the right category. Maybe fantasy (I think of the Nicole Peeler book's categorization) or even mystery (thinking Madelyn Alt now) would be more appropriate. There are some touching moments, and the author tells us at one point that Bryn and Tammy Jo had a night (and there's lots of kissing between them), but that's really it. The love-triangle thing with Zach and Bryn just isn't really enough for me to put it in that category. Especially since it really doesn't lead to enough of the steaminess that I expect to see in the PNR. The mysteries are cute, the characters are addicting and the dialogue is cute. The plots are a little convoluted, but again, that's this genre for you. Looking forward to seeing where the third in the series goes.

Hope this counts as my "Southern" book for the March Callenge. A bit of Fluff, a light read, Tammy Jo is sort of a Texas version of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum with witchy and faery powers she hasn't learned to control. She is going to be tested by the World Association of Magic, her ex, a local sheriff doesn't believe in witchcraft and special powers and she is being helped and "courted" by a lawyer and Warlock who is supposed to stay away from her. Her attempts at casting spells go awry and the results is a wild time in the old town before things are set to rights.

Tammy Jo is back and getting into more magical mayhem in this one! I'm wondering if she has any relation to Sookie Stackhouse.....trouble always finds those two! You learn a little more about Tammy Jo and her powers in this one and are introduced to some new faces from the magical world. Mercutio is the best sidekick ever! The love triangle between Tammy Jo, Zach and Bryn is still going strong and I found myself rooting for Bryn, again.....I guess I just have a weakness for the bad boys! We're still left with some loose ends with this ending and hope that the next book can tie them up for us! Great story for anyone looking for a fun, fast paced read.

I won this book through first reads giveaway -

I haven't read the first book in this series yet, but I stress YET. I will definitely be going back and reading it. This book was a light, fun, quick paced read. I stumbled a few times because I didn't read the first book, but I think that was just my fault, not the fault of the author. The mystery and paranormal romance both played against each other nicely without overwhelming the story with the romance - though it was definitely there. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
Thanks!

I borrowed this book from a friend.
What a fun read! I enjoyed this one a lot more than the deubt of this series. There was a lot of non stop action and a few plot twists that made this a page turner. Now, I can't wait until there is another one

Good sequel to a light read. Fun, exciting, sexy and whimsical; still has a likeable protoganist, an infuriatingly complicated love triangle and an amazing cat sidekick, this book is a great read for the beach . Team Bryn. ;)
