The line between justice and vengeance runs thin Sergeant Hector Ramirez, an Army MP, is tasked with investigating heinous rapes on his military base. With his partner, Specialist Eric Miller, they set off to apprehend the perpetrator. Yet as their investigation deepens, the criminal becomes increasingly difficult to find.
Tensions mount as pressures from Ramirez's superiors build up, it becomes clear that the attacker is someone within their ranks. Struggling with his own sanity and crumbling relationships, Sergeant Ramirez finds an unlikely ally in a witness who brings crucial information to light. With this new evidence, Ramirez apprehends the true assailant and justice is finally served.
However, the case takes its toll on Ramirez as he comes face-to-face with the trauma of his mission. Realizing that he must prioritize his personal life and take time to heal before setting out again, he nevertheless vows to continue fighting for justice for those who have been wronged. This determination eventually drives him towards becoming an FBI agent.
Before becoming an author, Daniel Pelfrey followed many career paths over the years. He’s served in the United States Air Force and worked in government at the TSA as a supervisor at one of the busiest airports in the United States.
From there, he tried his hand at blackjack, as a dealer, Daniel thinks it’s too risky to make a living as a gambler.
Daniel next entertained the idea of becoming a teacher and returned to college. He graduated, but teaching ended not in the cards. A Bachelor of Science in History from Black Hills State University, in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, is how Daniel completed his education. He’ll be the first to say it’s really just a license to B.S. in History.
Daniel has also spent several years in seasonal jobs in places ranging from Mount Rushmore in South Dakota to Mammoth Lakes, California, and finally Medora, North Dakota, where he currently lives.
Crime takes its toll on the crime-fighters… …especially those who also see mass death and destruction. The author addresses this throughout the book; below, are two succinct examples: ‘He needed the reminder that there was more to life than the horrors they faced daily. A chance to recharge before diving headfirst back into the darkness.’ ‘War changes people … but so does searching for monsters in our own ranks.’
One of the themes was of siblings being there for each other. Whether through death of a parent, heartbreak, illness,
What a cute pick-up line! ‘Will you be my accomplice in enjoying some downtime?’
Great description of a walk on a military base: ‘The aroma of stale coffee wafted through the air, mingling with the scent of gun oil and disinfectant’
We should all ask ourselves the same question. Imagine what a world this would be if we all asked ourselves the below question… ‘Can you live with yourself if you don’t do everything in your power?’
Thin Line (Hector Ramirez Thrillers) , my fifteenth read from author Daniel Pelfrey. A 140-page military police thriller. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author with TThe Old Ones: Book Two of the Chicago Underground Series next on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
