SOMEONE WANTS CHLOE MORRIS DEAD…AND THEY WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO SEE IT THROUGH.
Chloe has tried to stay under the radar for as long as she can remember, but her strange condition won’t let her be great. From her thirst for blood to the ashen tone her skin takes when her cravings aren’t satisfied, she constantly finds herself left with more questions than answers. Junior is finally settled in to a life that works for her. No one bothers her because her brother is a star athlete, nor do they question her monthly absences from school. Life finally seems good…until it doesn’t. Zora has experienced things no child should ever encounter. Violence rocked her world in the blink of an eye and sent her idyllic life into a tailspin. It also sent her to a new state where she only knows her grandmother. Her attempts to lay low will prove more complicated than she ever imagined. When fate and danger brings these magical young ladies together, they learn that nothing in the city of Seawall, VA is what it seems and the halls of I.C. Norcom High School will never be normal as long as they are students there. All roads will lead to Chloe as she searches for answers and bites off more than she can chew…literally.
TRIGGER VIOLENCE (BLOOD SUCKERS AND SHIFTERS GOTTA EAT), POLICE BRUTALITY, RACISM, BLACK GIRL MAGIC THROUGH AND THROUGH!!
This was an okay read. I enjoyed the action throughout the entire book. That’s what really kept me going. The writing wasn’t super great and kind of corny at times. Overall, I like that it addressed coming into your own, embracing your gifts, and the need to combat racism in every shape/form.
Indigo Sun was an amazing read! I initially started reading to support the author, being a childhood friend. But, I soon found that this book was everything! The story itself, the development of the connection between the crew, the relevance to history and at the same time current/present realities. I loved how affirming most of the adults *sideeye to Rochelle* were to the kids - that really stood out to me. Man, it was so good.
I absolutely love seeing the passion people hold for their “thing.” As I was reading, the other side of my brain was thinking about all the research and prep, and thinking that went into crafting this work. As a reader every sense was awakened, as a thinker my brain was exploding seeing the story coming together, and as a human my heart was on a rollercoaster responding to what was happening between the people and the non people and between the worlds and oooh! It was a whole experience to read this! I feel like when I read the Earthseed series by Octavia Butler and I just had to keep reading it over and over. The author did her good creating with this one, can’t wait for what’s next!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💐✨💐✨
Shantel Day remarkably balances this fulfilling journey of three gifted teenage girls each with a distinct personality (a vampire, werewolf and a sorceress). She knows when to show and tell allowing the reader to view the world around the characters while diving into each of their internal challenges as the story progresses. Thank you Shantel for sharing your remarkable story with us.
There is one thing I love the most is black girls coming together to support each other and learn each other differences especially being a part of the supernatural Community that no one knows about. I have read this book in two days without realizing it.
This is not my usual genre but I was instantly hooked after reading the first few pages. The main characters are well developed and young warriors. There is action, humor and the sadness of reality. A major page turner. I'm going to be waiting impatiently for Indigo Moon. Kudos!
The sisterhood between the three female teens was well written. Learning about everyone’s power and watching them handle difficult situations made for a good read. The characters were well developed and likable, which made me want to see them succeed.
