MEET NIA, a young woman in her twenties who is trying to get her life back to normal after a mental breakdown. Arriving in London, together with her new friends and cousin Lynn, she makes her way through adult life, which is definitely not as rosy as she imagined. Convinced that she is doing fine, she meets again with her mother years later, falls in love for the first time, and has no idea that her life will get even more complicated. Confused about her feelings and afraid of a new relationship, Nia returns to her depressive episodes, which she tries to dig herself out of.
How could she have known that being an adult was only the beginning of adulthood?
What started as an inner pain that Nykolla felt while writing her feelings on paper turned into her lifelong passion.
There is nothing she enjoys more than writing (and reading) stories that are heart breaking and humorous, with a touch of cute, cliché romance and a poignant streak of truth running through them.
When she's not writing or making up stories, you can find her in a coffee shop with her nose in a book. Sometimes she pops in for fish and chips with her dog Marlo or does makeup (her other hobby).
This book was so good and I read it at the perfect time too. I enjoyed this read even though it had some tough stuff in it the overall story was good. I can't wait to read the next one after!
I had the pleasure of having ARC for this novel. As soon as I started reading I felt connected to the characters, especially Nia. This book shows a little about the reality of what it is like to have mental problems and how having good people by our side can change our perspective on life. We can see the inner struggle that a person with mental problems has and how much they have to fight to overcome the bad days. I loved Nia's friends, even though they all had personal problems, they always helped each other. I felt like I was part of history.
The writing is excellent and I have to congratulate Nikolla for creating this work of art and I'm definitely looking forward to other books upcoming by the author.
I stumbled upon this book accidentally on my Instagram feed. The blurb and the tropes instantly hooked me, so I decided to give it a go — and I must say, this book broke me (in the best possible way). The main character, Nia, felt so real that at times, I genuinely felt like I was part of her journey. Her decisions and emotions were raw and honest. Yes, she was a bit frustrating at times with the constant mistakes she kept making, but by the end of the story, I understood why.
Nia is such a complex character, and I came to the conclusion that she finds comfort in the pain she feels.
Being surrounded by her friends gave me hope that Nia might get better. As the story unfolds, we also get to know her friends a bit more — and it's clear that each of them is dealing with something too. I especially loved her friend Poppy — she brought a bit of light, humour, and sarcasm to the story, and honestly had the best lines!
As for her love interest, Malik, I felt their relationship was a little rushed at first. But the more I read and got to know Nia, the more I realised it couldn’t have developed any other way. Nia acts on impulse, and I think that’s exactly what the author wanted to portray — the rushed mistakes we sometimes make, and the consequences that come with them. By the way, I adored Malik and his family. I also really appreciated how the author portrayed cultural differences and religion in such an understanding and respectful way.
The short chapters were a huge plus for me — I flew through the book because of them! The story ends on an open note, which I actually didn’t mind. I had a feeling it was part of a series, and of course, I had to get the second book straight away!
All in all, I don’t think this book is for everyone. While it contains a cute, cliché romance and strong friendships, it focuses more on the internal struggles of the main character — her past, her estranged relationship with her mother, her mental health, and her impulsive behaviour, like I mentioned.
Big points to the author for including a clear trigger warning at the front of the book — and a brilliant playlist, which I listened to the whole way through!
Great depiction of mental illnesses and a lot of interesting ideas we don’t see often in novels. However, I wish events and their consequences were less rushed (including the romance). It wouldn’t have been more impactful and realistic considering the topics addressed.
Romantická linka medzi Niou a Malikom sa rozvinula dosť rýchlo, no pôsobila prirodzene a dokázala vo mne vyvolať úsmev. Vedľajšie postavy boli rovnako zaujímavé, plné osobnosti a ich mená sa mi ľahko vryli do pamäti.
Áno, niekedy mi v deji chýbali jemné premostenia a pár momentov pôsobilo uťatých.
Knihu odporúčam všetkým, ktorí chcú niečo rýchle, úprimné, súčasné, s humorom, priateľstvami a mladistvou atmosférou veľkého mesta.
I don’t typically leave reviews for books I haven’t finished, unless I feel there's something important to address. However, this review is a bit different since I was kindly given the book by the author to read and review.
Firstly, I want to acknowledge that the topics and the struggles explored in the book were what initially drew me to it. The premise, the description, and the characters all seemed like they held great promise. Unfortunately, I found that the writing style didn't resonate with me as much as I had hoped. Despite my best efforts to push through, I struggled to connect with it. The writing felt a bit too simplistic for my tastes, and at times, I found myself wishing for a deeper, more nuanced style to match the complexity of the story and its characters.
That said, I recognize that everyone has different preferences when it comes to writing styles, and what didn’t work for me may be exactly what others enjoy! I truly appreciate the author’s effort and passion in sharing this story.
I hate hate hate leaving bad reviews but this one I just couldn’t get it into. I do think it was an amazing message about mental health and how important it is that it should be taken seriously. I just found the characters I was I able to relate to and felt that the pacing was a bit off for me. I just felt that it was too quick jumping from scene to scene. This is just my opinion on it feel free to give it a try this was just my experience.
"You're pushing people away because you're scared they'll leave one day, but Nia I will always be by your side. Always" ~ Malik Al-Yousaf
A fast-paced novel that focuses on the ups and downs of relationships, friendships and the struggles of mental health.
Dealing with the struggles of having BPD, the last thing Nia expects to find at college is a friendship with the most unlikely group of girls. A group who stand beside Nia throughout three rough years of mental health problems, boy problems and family problems. And a relationship wasn't on her mind until she met Malik, the cute boy who stole her heart. But when she finds out he's leaving to study abroad, Nia ends up heartbroken. When Nia's life takes a downward spiral, will she be able to turn to her friends, or her family for help?
I went into this book thinking it was going to be this cute romance book but Nykolla shocked me with the most insane book that focused on mental health and so many other tricky subjects (Trigger warming list at the end of review) and I'm so glad I got to read this incredible book!
This book is really fast-paced, roughly taking place over the 3 years that Nia is at university. I both liked and disliked how fast-paced the book was. I liked that we got to see these friendships last over such a long time, and it meant nothing felt too rushed. I disliked that some moments didn't have as much time as I wanted, because there was so much to cover.
Nykolla didn’t shy away from the heavier topics whilst writing this book (listed after review) and she did such an amazing job of making sure the reader understood just how intense and serious these topics are! Nia is diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, and we see her ups and downs through this book, and we get to see the moments where she bares herself to her friends and family. Nia also struggles with her mental health and reading about her downing in self-hatred was really hard. She went through so much during this book and seeing her come out the other side a strong woman who had people to rely on was such an amazing experience.
I give this book a spice rating of 1. There is open and closed door spice, but none of it is detailed, more focused on the emotions Nia feels during the moment. The most detail you get is Nia reflecting on sex, and her speaking to her friends about it.
I loved reading about Nia gaining this amazing group of friends throughout the book. Alexa, Olivia and Poppy were such great characters. They all have their faults, but are there for each other and understand each other no matter what is going on in their own lives. I loved reading about Nia and Malik's relationship. It started as super cute, going on weekends away together and coffee dates, but it became a lot more intense and serious around 20 chapters in. They went through a lot together and it was amazing to see them come back together again and again. The way Nia was there to hold Malik when his family suffered a horrible blow, and how he learnt about Nia's diagnosis so that he could better understand and care for Nia!
It was so cool seeing the difference in relationship between Nia and her dad and Nia and her mum. She and her dad are incredibly close and he is there for her when she needs him most. Nia and her mum have a very hard relationship due to history, so it was really interesting seeing their interactions through the book. I loved Nia and Lynn's relationship. They are so close and share so much with each other, Lynn was ready to sit and listen to Nia when that was what Nia needed, and Nia did the same for Lynn.
I enjoyed reading this book! It was an emotional rollercoaster, but such an amazing book and I can't wait to read the next book in the Breakup Blues series, For The Girl I Used To Know

Nia spoznáva ďalšie dievčatá: Alexu, Poppy a Oliviu.
As a woman in her twenties I feel like this book was written for me!!!
All my girlies need to pick this book up asap. I think we can all relate to this novel in some shape or form. Nykolla has written a heart touching story about Nia a young woman trying to find her way after a mental breakdown that sent her spiralling. You can feel the emotion and thought the author put into this book. First the charters are so relatable, not only the fmc but the others you meet along the journey. What I loved most is how realistic Nia was, we get to go along with her as she tries to heal her mental health and I'm sure lots of people can relate to her journey.
This is a unique and fun plot line that had me devouring this book in one sitting. I went through a whole bunch of emotions while reading this because I felt so connected to the story line and everything that was happening. There's never a dull moment in this story and trust me you will be unable to put this down, This book is for everyone and I would recommend everyone add it to their 2024 TBR!
Perfect for the fans of All the bright Places, Not enough and If I stay.
Be warned, though. Prepare your tissues because you'll need them.
Nykolla's writing is beautiful and I could feel the story, live it, be there and be one with the characters. While the book is a work of fiction, it depicts the issues teenagers face more and more lately. That is why I strongly recommend that you read it.
Vive la London, is a beautiful and also ravishing story about a girl who, like most of us, has her own demons to conquer, to defeat. And she can only do so, by being surrounded by her new found friends found in London,at ther new school, where she plans to also start over a new life.
If you, yourself, are going thorugh a hard time, this book will make you see life with different eyes and bring up that most wanted and needed rainbow.
"Breakup Blues: Vive la London" by Nykolla Vargova is a lively, fast-paced read that effortlessly blends humor with heart. Following Nia, a French student tackling life in London, the novel explores everything from new love and cultural clashes to mental health struggles and family drama. Vargova handles the subject of mental illness with care, adding an authentic touch to an otherwise relatable and engaging storyline.
The book’s diverse characters and vibrant London setting make for an enjoyable escape, with plenty of emotional depth. Vargova's sensitive portrayal of mental health feels refreshingly real, without bogging down the fun of Nia’s chaotic journey.
Perfect for readers who want a bit of substance with their romance, "Breakup Blues" is a thoughtful, entertaining read that speaks to both young adults and older readers alike.
I had the privilege of receiving the ARC for this novel. When I finally got around to reading it, I read it so fast. I felt instantly connected to Nia. Her mental health journey mirrors mine and it was refreshing reading a main character who interacted realistically with her surroundings. I gasped, I cried, I wanted more. Congrats to Nykolla Vargova on a wonderful novel! My only critique was the ending. A certain plot line that was introduced wasn’t my favorite (although that doesn’t mean you won’t like it). And the way certain characters reacted to the situation felt unauthentic. But honestly that may just be because I have had very different experiences!
If you are into sweet, real, fast paced, heart wrenching romances…this is the book for you.
💙Breakup Blues: Vive la London is the perfect comfort read for anyone who’s ever had to pick up the pieces after a breakup. Nykolla Vargova nails that mix of heartbreak and humor, following the main character as she dives into london’s vibrant scene to find herself again. From exploring cozy cafes to having some wild nights out, she’s on a messy but relatable journey to healing.
The writing feels like talking with a friend who totally gets you. It’s lighthearted and inspiring, with just enough depth to hit home. If you’re looking for a book that feels like a warm hug (with a bit of sass), this is it. I’d give it 4 ✨ fun, feel good, and full of little reminders that life gets better, one adventure at a time.
The book Vive la London is great for both young and older readers. The story very well points out the problems of adulthood with which the main character struggles. I empathised with Nia’s thinking, and honestly, I felt sorry that she felt what she felt. The author completely immersed herself in the story, characters, as well as Nia's friends. Each one is different and they complement each other completely. You will laugh, cry (like me) and fall in love with the characters. For me, it's a great book and I'm looking forward to other upcoming books by the author :)
A very fast paced, complicated romance book. If you like slow burn this definitely isn’t for you but this book goes into a lot of detail on mental health, relationships and friendships. Definitely read the trigger warnings before reading the book 🫶🏻
This book is so wonderful. The romance is raw and real. Throughout the story you follow the characters deal with so many struggles but despite this there is so much hope surrounding the story. This is the first book in the breakup blues series and it is a great start!
Enjoyed reading this book, however if you prefer more of a slow burn this book might not be for you. The relationship between the two MCs is very sweet and cute!
This book was great although had some tough parts to read it was very good and I enjoyed reading it as well as the first book too. The writing was amazing !!!
Autorka píše pútavo a svižne. Kapitoly sú krátke. Hlavná hrdinka Mia to v živote nemá ľahké. Mama ju veľmi skoro opustila a ona sa doteraz s tým nevie zmieriť. Začala žiť nový život, nové prostredie, nová škola. Odišla študovať do Londýna, kde si postupne buduje okruh priateliek - Alexa, Poppy a Olívia. Veľmi skoro medzi nimi vznikne vzťah, hoci ona cíti neistotu a strach z opustenia. Totiž to sa o ňom šíria klebety, čím vzniká medzi nimi napätie až to vedie k hádkam. Nia postupne prepadá do depresií... Dokáže ich vzťah vydržať napriek všetkým prekážkam, alebo Niu úplne pohltí vnútorná bolesť, ktorá ju zožiera? Nájde ešte silu odpúšťať?

No povedzte… nie je tá obálka famózna? ="On má Harvard a miluje život chápeš ma? ="Jej ruky boli teplé a zohrievali tie moje.
Vrelo odporúčam a veľká poklona autorke. Teším sa na ďalšiu tvorbu a pokračovanie.
