This was really a good book for like 90%.. that’s why I am so annoyed about the ending. The argument was totally not necessary, or at least, not to be so long. The ending was really rushed (I never read anything so rushed at the end), like really too much it pissed me off and ruined the all book! Don’t get me started with the last chapter in which basically we don’t even know about their month apart and honestly I don’t even know how Chase (who is really so good and sweet and comprehensive) could be so calm in forgiving her… the authors should at least have us an epilogue

Literally incredible. It hits every one of my favorite romance tropes right on the head and scratches all the itches. I could read about Chase Matthews skincare routine and I’d be engrossed honestly. Troped is such an incredible read and it went by way too fast.

And the little nod to Twilight in the middle had my 13 year old, Team Edward, heart doing backflips in my chest. It really feels like this book was written for me.

Truly my only critique is that we didn’t get just a touch more of Chase and Rose’s HEA. But is that even a complaint? That I loved it so much I wanted more? Swooning for the next month, see ya’.

I saw a random ad on Instagram and immediately dropped everything I was doing just to read this story, and here I am. Midnight finishing this book giggling like a mad woman because that Grand Gesture was a 10 out of 10.

5 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book so much. If you’re like me and a total romance book whore, then this book is for you. Rose was so relatable (even if she was a bit frustrating at the end), and Chase is a top tier book boyfriend. LOVED IT!!!! Amazing for romance readers

This book was SOOO cute!! I loved all of the hockey references and Rose's book references. I definitely feel like this book was a nod to all of us book lovers out there. I never read about a FMC that I related to so much. I loved all the bookish terms that Rose taught Chase and their book club. I loved how they formed a friendship first. Chase was the sweetest and such a book boyfriend! His love for her and how he kept showing up for her, ahh I love it! I honestly hate the nickname "babygirl" because of an ex, but Chase singlehandedly redeemed this word for me. I enjoyed all their friends in this book and I laughed a lot. Definitely swooned a lotttt over Chase too! Overall such a great read!

What can I say? I loved every moment of this book!

A spicy Hockey romance with a FMC who reads & bases all her love connections off the books she reads..
(FMC description sounds a little too close to home)

The whole book was very cute & had me crying on multiple occasions (bare in mind I cry at anything romantic or cute, there was no major sad scenes in this book) & wishing I was as lucky as Rose to experience the kind of love Chase was giving her.

I did find the ending anticlimactic & it almost felt rushed. I’m not sure if that is because I was so emotionally & mentally invested with these characters & I didn’t want the book to end or if it genuinely was the way I felt it was.
I would have loved to have read an epilogue about their future together or maybe even a sequel telling about how they worked through Rose’s fear of relationships & showing their relationship growing as they graduated college.

Although, with all that being said.. I still loved the book & highly recommend reading it! I may be biased because I’m a sucker for a spicy hockey romance, but I loved it!

This is a difficult book for me to put stars to because I had SUCH a good time reading parts of this.

Things that I loved: the chemistry, the humor, the banter, the way that Chase falls fast once he's spending time with Rose.

The things that I had a hard time with: the miscommunication despite that being a huge conversation/plot point of Rose's character and the book itself.

The constant book boyfriend references were a little too much at times but that's just a personal preference thing. The biggest issue I had was the ending - the resolution and the end kind of felt like the authors were done with the book and just were like "okay and then this happened and THE END" which left a really unsatisfying read for me especially because it felt like there was so much potential that I was just left hanging on.

2.5 star read for me but I really did love the characters so we're putting it as a 3 here.

SO much potential

This book could have easily been a five-star read for me.

It is so wonderfully self-aware without being cringey. The whole book is a big #iykyk for readers, which is so fun. It pulls off being somewhat unpredictable, too, at least as much as a romance novel can.


The lack of editing and revision is where it fell short. The tense was all over the place, often within the same sentence. There were so many little errors in continuity it was distractig. The timelines didn't seem to add up, and I'm still not clear on when they started dating? The ending felt a bit rushed which made their HEA feel less satisfying.

I loved the characters and there seriously is SO much potential here.

I really, really enjoyed it and would genuinely love to dig my editing fingers into it and work with the author to make it shine.

so good for 90%. She pissed me off so bad at the end…. Girl how are u gonna be a romance book maniac and still jump to hella conclusions like that??? We parental issues at least hear the boy out!!! the last chapters we messy idk how I feel about the ending…. also no epilogue?? no after care?? am I just a read to you??

nevertheless though LOVED him him reading her favourite books to try and figure her out??? chefs kiss!! he was so good!! they were so good!! stupid defense mechanisms and whatever like girl ur a psych student who’s special interest is miscommunications?? Ending moved incredibly fast idk how he just like… said yeah sure back together as if she didn’t basically tell him to fuck off for a month but sure. Wish we saw more of the in between that and the hea!!! still loved them though!!!!

If all the tropes which exist had a book it would be this one. I loved it. And it kind of validated my love for The Deal lol, even if it was all fictional.

I liked the mmc more than the fmc and that's saying something.

Also I totally agree with Rose on this, “Rule number one of this apartment is that we do not speak ill of Garrett Graham. If it happens again, I will ask you to leave.”

So true for me- "All a guy had to do was act like Garrett Graham and she’d be sold. Interesting . I flipped the book over and scanned the back synopsis."

Would've rated it higher if not for their argument, it was pointless.

I really enjoy reading about Rose being a bookish girlie. The way Rose talked about tropes from romance books, I could totally relate to her. Chase was such book boyfriend for Rose. It was a sweet moment that Chase let her finish her book after Chase returned it to her. They have a bet that includes faking dating and a book club. It was so sweet that he created Operation Book Boyfriend with his hockey buddies to be Rose's boyfriend. I really liked reading about Chase developed feelings for Rose and wanted to approve to her that he could be the perfect boyfriend. 🥰

I really like the side characters and witnessing their best friends falling in love with each other. Rose created a meet cute for her best friend to introduce herself to the hockey player. That's how she met her hockey player she ended up with. I love everything about this book besides the miscommunication and third act breakup. Especially with Rose's best friend having her own miscommunication and third act breakup as well. That was the only thing that frustrated me about the book. It was really awesome to read besides that part!

I really like the idea behind this book, but it fell a little short for me. I don’t mind a third act breakups as long as it’s written well and feels plausible, and despite the author hinting at and building up to a miscommunication caused third act breakup, it felt a bit forced.
The FMC dissed on her best friend’s boyfriend for breaking up with her for a stupid reason… but then she turns around and dumps the MMC for the same reason about two seconds later and fails to see the hypocrisy of it all.
They, of course, end up together in the end but the ending felt rushed and the story was over quite suddenly.

It pains me to give a 3 star rating because it had so much amazing potential!

This was a solid read, the chemistry between the two leads was great. I have to agree with the reviewers that the last third of the book was a letdown. With an author who is clearly very well-versed in the romance genre, I was surprised to see the story end so abruptly and have no satisfaction in letting these two characters finally be secure in their relationship. Also, not even an epilogue?!

This was cute. I’ll always simp for a hockey boy, and a hockey boy that takes notes from Garrett Graham and Jake Connelly?? Yes. The ending was annoying though and definitely felt rushed. Would’ve been 4 stars but the lack of grammatical editing also annoyed me :/
