Being healthy and slowing down the body's natural ageing process, who wouldn't want a bit of that?

This book promises this nirvana to the reader through 18 "superfoods", 101 recipes and anti-ageing secrets "from the Amazon to the Andes." Looking through the list of superfoods a few items were familiar but the overwhelming majority were unknown by name, each having their own exotic name such as lucuma, yacon or quinoa.

After an informative scene-setting introduction it is straight on to the superfoods. Each superfood is given its own chapter providing a full overview and introduction to the ingredient, before moving on to the purported nutritional and health benefits. One says purported because it is not within the scope of this review to determine the veracity of the claims or any suitability for an individual's own circumstances. The presented information is fairly clearly written, relatively jargon-free and thus suitable for additional research should you so desire. An appendix additionally provides many references for further reading and research.

The recipes themselves round off each "ingredient" chapter and naturally draw heavily on the stated core ingredient. Overall it seems that there is a fairly broad - or as broad as one might expect - range of recipes on offer that utilise the stated superfoods. Don't expect recipes for fish and chips or a special pizza but there are many dishes that one had to re-read several times to see that such a food was really made with a certain ingredient as so many of the superfoods are versatile and you have potentially a good start to customising your own recipes as well.

The presentation of the recipes left a little to be desired, mostly due to the lack of an estimated preparation and cooking time and the reliance on sole U.S. imperial measures (referring to a conversion table at the rear is not acceptable).

Reviewing a book of this kind is always a difficult thing as a lot can depend on whether the reader gels with the underlying dietary regime, style or approach. Certainly on a cold, measurable level this book delivers sufficient material to give you a proposed course of action that seems compelling, not particularly faddish or otherwise a thing you might try and lose interest in after a couple of days of weeks. The hard part might be in any case up to you and you really should check out the book and see if you can form a bond with it! It can be honestly said that this book and its central message is worth spending some time with - it might be worth a modest investment in time and effort at the very least.

Some of these recipes I can even try to make, such as those with cocoa, artichokes and beans, others is going to be a little bit difficult because, at least here in Berlin, many of these Peruvian super foods have never been seen .. ...

Alcune di queste ricette si possoo anche provare a fare, tipo quelle con il cacao, i carciofi e le fave, altre la vedo un po' difficile perché, almeno qui a Berlino, molti di questi super cibi peruviani non si sono mai visti.....

THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND HCI BOOKS FOR THE PREVIEW!

This book is amazing! It has bright, beautiful, full color photos on every page, and delicious recipes throughout. Some of the featured foods I have never heard of before (a great learning experience), but others are very familiar, making it easy for anyone to get a quick start. The recipes are super healthy and great for all ages to enjoy. I received a free copy of this book through "Goodreads First Reads" in exchange for my honest review.

The recipes are amazing! I appreciate how clear the Nutrition and Health Benefits pages are for each item which are followed by tasty and easy to fix recipes. I made the Egg White and Artichoke Quinoa Muffins for my work team and they raved about them. So tasty and healthy! I cannot wait to try more recipes.
The illustrations are beautiful in the book too.

I picked up this book from the library after my trip to Peru where I had a gastronomic tour to the local market. Very informative, short and to the point. There are quite a number of recipes which would be easy to follow and they call for ingredients that can be easily purchased in North America.
