Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.

As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.

In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.

Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.

Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.

As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.

Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.

Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.

Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.

Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God

In 31 Days to Happiness, David Jeremiah explored the Biblical insights into Ecclesiastes and the life of King Solomon. He wrote this book in order to guide readers into learning the important concepts of being happy and finding contentment in everyday life. He looked into relationships, money, leadership, perils of the tongue, unfair justice, impressions of life’s meaning, governments, and wisdom.

In one of the chapters, he covered the truths found in Ecclesiastes 5:10-20 and how money impacts our quality of life. For example, the more money we currently have doesn’t make us everlasting happy because we are always striving for more financial success. At our core, a number of people still believe more money will make us happier. But Solomon warned us that a rich man will have difficulty sleeping because they are trying to save and protect what they have. David Jeremiah pointed out that money is a gift from God meant to be enjoyed but we have to remember that it’s from Him and money isn’t supposed to control us.

One of my favorite chapters was, “When 1 + 1 > 2”. David Jeremiah revealed the crucial need of investing in relationships and the dangers of walking alone. In Ecclesiastes 4:10, we are told that if someone walks alone and falls, who will be there to help him. He shared that we all need each other and we’re not called to be the lone ranger and we’re made for relationships. David Jeremiah made a wonderful observation about being a true friend, you must follow Solomon’s advice and be friendly.

I would recommend this magnificent book on discovering the Biblical truths found in Ecclesiastes on happiness from Solomon’s life. I immensely enjoyed how David Jeremiah included a number of real life stories to enrich the chapters overall contents. I appreciated how the author was very open with his battle with cancer and how people would ask him how a pastor could get the disease. He was very vulnerable in admitting that even godly people dealt with sickness. I also liked how he showed that God still had a great plan for his life. I strongly believe that if readers would follow the advice and scripture passages, we would recognize what isn’t making us happy and why it isn’t working. Then we would also see what will make us truly happy. If you’re seeking a book on finding happiness and contentment, then read this book for 31 days and watch your life be changed!

I love David Jeremiah’s books, especially the ones that take us verse by verse through a book of the Bible. ‪In 31 Days‬ to Happiness, David Jeremiah takes us through the book of Ecclesiastes in 31 daily installments. Ecclesiastes was written by King Solomon as he searched for the meaning of life.

If you have read Ecclesiastes, you know that it can make life seem very depressing or as Dr. Jeremiah puts it, “On the surface, life looks like a gerbil running on a wheel. What’s the point?” But, he also goes on to remind us, “That is how it can look if you do not have eyes to see beneath the surface.”

After reading this book, I am left with these thoughts.  Without God, yes, our lives would seem monotonous and a little bit like Groundhog Day.  What we long for and need (even if we don’t know it) is God. With God, we have salvation and with that comes His love, His light, His mercy, His grace, and His blessings. We need to stop looking for the kind of happiness that the world gives us and look to God by reading His Word and abiding in Him. When we do this, we will find true happiness.

This is a fantastic book. It's kind of cool to look at the meaning of life by studying Ecclesiastes a book of the Bible where Solomon calls nearly everything vanity, or meaningless. David Jeremiah does his usual fantastic job explaining and enlightening us on this book of the Bible. His writing style is accessible, at times humorous and always thought provoking. I highly recommend it.

This devotional is full of realistic observations about what life is really like. It gave me a new appreciation for the book of Ecclesiastes. I would recommend this book to everyone. I will be reading this every year. I need the reminders in it. I plan on reading this again this year and taking more notes and reading the books it mentions. You will find happiness if you follow Solomon’s advice in the last chapter. Read from the beginning (don’t cheat and read the last chapter first), you will only appreciate the conclusion after you have journey through the book.

I gave this book a two-star for plenty of reasons. The first is the book talks about wisdom and Solomon. It has a negative connotation about a lot of things. If s a good read in a sense to get valuable information and it has some thought provoking stories in it. But when I got to the chapter about riches. I disagreed entirely with that. I’m Christian culture there is this mindset of being humbly poor that I highly disagree with and this book brought that out. Didn’t really finish after that.

Deeply insightful on arguably the most sophisticated and confusing book of the Bible. Written by the wisest man ever (outside of Jesus) and it shows. Dr. D Jeremiah really helps you digest just about each and every verse of this wonderful book over the course of a month. 1 month to slow down, find peace and clarity in your life where you otherwise may not have been open to it. Thank you Solomon, Dr. Jeremiah, and especially to the one and only God.

Thoroughly enjoyed this walk through King Solomon’s Ecclesiastes. David Jeremiah is a perceptive and skilled wordsmith, bringing context to these ancient writings. For me personally, this book was quite encouraging. Ecclesiastes itself is somewhat depressing, but David Jeremiah identifies its transforming and ultimately inspiring message.

The book is really well written for the reader to understand. Dr. Jeremiah gives examples that helps to clarify the Scriptures. The book just didn’t grab me in a big way, but that could be because I’ve read a few books on Ecclesiastes.

This is a book I read with my life group at church. We did 31 weeks instead of 31 days. I learned a great deal going through Ecclesiastes verse by verse. It's a beautifully written book of the bible, but can be a bit depressing, yet reassuring at the same time.

Good instructions for life

I liked the chapters were full of wisdom on how to live life. The chapters are practical and mirror the book of Ecclesiastes. Excellent read!

This book is meant to be read over a course of 31 days. Each day you read another bit of the book. Each chapter/day focuses on one or more things that Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes. The hope is that you'll reflect over what you read each day, and it will help you feel happier in life.

I wasn't a huge fan of the book. I just didn't really feel inspired or anything while reading. I didn't take the full 31 days to read the book either. I went a bit faster because I didn't really feel like the book was giving me anything to reflect on. It was all stuff I had heard before, and it didn't make me feel any different after hearing it. The vast majority of it was stuff I already thought anyway. However, that isn't to say that what it said wasn't good stuff. It was; I just had heard it all before.

I have no doubt that this book is exactly what some people are looking for. If you're in a really bad place and want to turn around how you look at life, this book is worth a shot. If you're already happy, you still might enjoy the book, but you may also find that it is all stuff that you already know.

Overall, I found it to be a book full of good information, and it was written in an engaging style. I just didn't feel like I was getting anything new out of it.

31 Days to Happiness* is a solid book about how to find happiness, or rather eternal joy in your life. He uses the book of Ecclesiastes as the Biblical backdrop for this journey, following King Solomon through his life, successes and mistakes alike. This book is meant to be read one chapter a day, so that in just one month you can be a happier soul.

I enjoyed reading this in-depth study of Ecclesiastes, and may read it again one day. It is well-written and interesting. I learned quite a bit about Solomon, touted to be the wisest man in history. This felt like a good Bible study, a search for wisdom, the exploration of the universality of man's search for meaning and joy, and an inspiration for making changes in my life for the better. I admit that I didn't read one chapter a day - some days I really didn't want to put it down, and other days I didn't want to pick it up, but I did read it in about a month, and took quite a few notes for myself to look back upon.

I was very glad to see this wasn't just a feel-good, quick-change self-help book like many that have similar names. This is a good read with solid advice that will do your soul good, whether you are a Christian or not.

I recently joined forces with Book-Sneeze and chose this book as my first one to read and review. If I had it to do again ( and I will be reviewing another one soon), I definitely would not have chosen this one. The summary doesn’t tell you that this is actually a VERY depressing book. Most people pick up a book like this one, hoping to have the title come true, and actually become happier in the said amount of days. Nope, not with this book. With this book you get to hear about how sad and miserable King Solomon was and how worthless everything on this planet is.

It’s a great book if you want to know more about Ecclesiastes (a much neglected book of the Bible, or King Solomon. However, if you’re looking for a book that gives practical advice on how to be happier in 31 days, look else where.

Everybody wants to be happy, and we all deserve to be happy. I think most of us spend a lot of time looking for it in all wrong places. This book is written to help us discover where true happiness lies.

The book takes a look at the wisest man in history, King Solomon; and his writings found in the book of Ecclesiastes. The author explores this book and leads the reader on a journey to discover what true happiness is. I think, like Solomon, most readers will finally see that the things of this world are in vain, and that true happiness is not found in these things but rather in things that are not of this world.

This book is an easy read, one chapter a day and you will be that much closer to happiness (even if you take two days to read a chapter, you can’t go wrong) I think everyone would benefit from reading this book

An excellent review of Ecclesiastes, but not recommended for seeking happiness. Stressing how to find joy in the everyday parts of our lives tastes like medicine, as the instructions are opposed to this world—like “it is better to give than receive”. The first few chapters are extremely depressing and are a challenge to read—I almost left it as a DNF—but the rest of the book is well worth a look. Ultimately, readers reach the conclusion that “Life without God is a meaningless experience; like life on a treadmill—you get your exercise, but you don’t go anywhere” (page 280). The final chapters are wonderful at summarizing and wrapping it all up, such as “Life is uncertain—embrace it!” and “Life is short—enjoy it!” (page 280). If you wish to review Ecclesiastes in a meaningful way, this is the authoritative book on the subject.

Don't let the title fool you - this isn't some fluff piece about how we can magically find happiness. It's actually an insightful commentary on Ecclesiastes. Highly recommended. For full review, see here. http://eagleswingsbooks.blogspot.com/

So far, this book is great. It's not about shallow "happiness" that our culture would define as happiness (e.g. wealth, popularity, power, glamour, etc.) but true, deeping meaning in life.
