God is For Us: 52 readings from Romans

Rate this book
No other New Testament epistle has such scope and depth. Touching on every major theological theme, Romans has been a cornerstone of the life of the Church and Christians since it was written. Augustine was converted while reading Romans. Martin Luther's encounter with the text led to a personal revival and the European Reformation. And Dr. Martyn Lloyd Jones--perhaps the greatest preacher of the twentieth century--spent decades wrestling with the text before expounding on it in his famous sermon series.

In God Is for Us Simon Ponsonby, a popular preacher and theologian based in Oxford, England, unpacks the book of Romans in 52 chapters. Ponsonby's careful, pastoral exposition reflects the spiritual maturity of one who has wrestled with the text both as an individual and with a congregation.

Full of practical application, readers will be challenged and encouraged as they work through the heart and soul of Romans.

I really enjoyed reading through this book on Romans.

In essence, it is a collection of sermons preached in a local church. This means that not all of Romans is covered, and some sections are covered quite repetitively. However, this is a readable and rich insight into Romans and how to preach it.

I may be taking ages to read this book but it is not a book to hurry over.
52 readings from Romans and every one a gem. As I have been reading and studying Romans this year I have enjoyed the insightful chapters which have added much to my personal devotions.
I think I have now covered the book and Romans once but I have to say this is an excellent read and I am sure I will be back many times in the future.

This is an amazing book - 52 studies of the book of Romans. I have spent the last three months digging into Romans, reading and re-reading a chapter and then using this book to help my studies. It gives such great insight into what can be a daunting book of the Bible but my faith has been built up and I have a far greater revelation of the salvation that Jesus bought for all men at the cross – first for the Jew and then the Gentile.
I am no theologian or Bible scholar. I am a Christian who loves Jesus but this book is so accessible for everyone and really aids anyone who wants to understand and have their faith built up by studying the book of Romans. Highly recommended.
