Blade of Vengeance is an adventure for one player and one dungeon master, featuring a lone elf against the forces of evil. Can you save the Emerlas from destruction? The answer waits inside.
Things I liked: The Elvish Myth feeling of the adventure was pretty nice. There are halflings and ale and halflings with ale. Elves, wine and elves with wine too. Well, maybe one or two elves with wine because most are DEAD! D:
Things I didn't like: There's a piece of the puzzle/clue revealed once you reveal your name, quest and such to a monster you encounter in a cave. Maybe I'm too shy, but I hate giving out my real identity and purpose to random skeletal beings I just met... err, encountered.
The adventure has the following Standard Adventure Details (SADs) that I recall: #10 – The Player gets pickpocketed and can't prevent it. #14 – The General Store charges more than standard prices listed in rulebooks. #15 – Vague rhyming clues that I couldn't figure out or understand due to my low INT score.
Then there's the loot. SO much money at the end. All real adventurers like picking up, stacking and counting coins. :)
For a single-player adventure (1 DM, 1 player), this is a surprisingly complex module with a detailed plot and a variety of encounters. It seems like the challenge level might be just slightly too hard for one PC, but then again the protagonist is a relatively heroic character and help is available. Having said that, in actual play, what do you do if the single PC dies? Just give up on the module? 4 stars as this is probably as strong of an adventure possible given the constraint of a single PC.
