I read the book as though for a history class. Parts of it were repetitive. The author uses primary sources, primarily diary entries. I did feel that there might be a slight skewing toward the South and Confederacy. Over all, it did fill in a blank place in my knowledge of the Civil War and was worth reading as a companion to a visit Savannah and Fort Pulaski last year.
