This held up. It's one of the few books from my kidhood that I remember the title of. I read thousands of books as a kid. I liked this one because it was all so foreign to me - running, living in New York, living in an apartment. I doubt I knew that *families* lived in apartments before I read this. I thought they were for single people or couples without children.

Anyway, it held up to reading as an adult. It's sweet and funny and wry.

I loved this book when I was a kid, and read it several times. Miranda is a young girl who has asthma, and thinks she must be restricted in what she can and can't do. She makes a new friend who is a runner, who convinces Miranda to begin running with her, despite the asthma. Does Miranda keep up with it and actually run a long race like a marathon? Read it to find out!

Miranda suffers from asthma, though some people think she fakes it. Then she meets Phoebe Livingston, a girl who likes to run. She convinces Miranda that she can run in the marathon with Phoebe. Alex, Miranda's health-nut brother, loves the idea. But it's not an easy road. Along the way, Miranda experiences a bad attack and Phoebe, at odds with her parents, discovers for the first time that she is adopted. But together, they work through their problems.
