The Nasirean Ethics

The Nasirean Ethics is the best known ethical digest to be composed in medieval Persia, if not in all mediaeval Islam. It appeared initially in 633/1235 when Tūsī was already a celebrated scholar, scientist, politico-religious propagandist. The work has a special significance as being composed by an outstanding figure at a crucial time in the history he was himself helping to shape: some twenty years later Tūsī was to cross the greatest psychological watershed in Islamic civilization, playing a leading part in the capture of Baghdad and the extinction of the generally acknowledged Caliphate there. In this work the author is primarily concerned with the criteria of human behaviour: first in terms of space and priority allotted, at the individual level, secondly, at the economic level and thirdly at the political level.

Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Tūsī, better known as Nasir al-Din Tusi, was a Persian polymath, architect, philosopher, physician, scientist, and theologian. One of the greatest scientists of medieval Islam, he is often considered the creator of trigonometry as a mathematical discipline in its own right.

به معنای حقیقیِ کلمه کتابِ «مستطابِ» اخلاقِ ناصری بایدش خواند و گفت.‏
کتابی غنی و موثّق در حکمت و اخلاق با ساختاری منطقی و استدلالی و دور از حواشی و زوائدِ شریعت‌مدارانه و زیباشناختی و ایدئولوژیک.‏

" شخص باید که بسیار نگوید و سخن دیگری به سخن خود قطع نکند و هر که حکایتی یا روایتی کند و او بر آن واقف باشد ، وقوف خود بر آن اظهار نکند تا آن کس آن سخن به اتمام رساند و چیزی را که از غیر او پرسند ، جواب نگوید. و اگر سوال از جماعتی کنند که او داخل آن جماعت بود ، بر ایشان سبقت ننماید و اگر کسی به جواب مشغول شود و او بر بهتر جوابی از آن قادر بود ، صبر کند تا آن سخن تمام شود ، پس جواب خود بگوید بر وجهی که در متقدم ، طعن نکند."

به جای آنکه کتاب ابن مسکویه را ترجمه کند، خودش جاهای خالی آن را پر می کند

برای کسایی که دنبال یه کتاب اخلاق خیلی جامع هستن، فکر می کنم بسیار کتاب مناسبی باشه. تک تک صفات اخلاقی، رذائل و سجایای اخلاقی رو معرفی می کنه، مشخص می کنه در هر اخلاقی چه چیزی افراط هست و چه چیزی تفریط. به نظرم کتابیه که برای بسیاری از صفحه هاش نیاز به ساعت ها تفکر هست. کتابی نیست که بشه مثل رمان خوند و رد شد.
