The Guest House Hauntings
Ezra and Carla are struggling to make ends meet when they are presented with an offer they can’t restore an old bed and breakfast with a sinister past.
One thing that always bothers me is when an author has huge factual errors right out of the gate, and that put me on the road to ruin with the 2nd story in this collection The Guest House Hauntings. This book takes place in "the mountains of Illinois" in a resort area. There are NO MOUNTAINS in Illinois and there are NO Mountain lakes in Illinois. This ridiculous error that any editor worth his soul should have caught let alone the author herself made the book almost unreadable. That and the obvious plot and easily solved mystery make me wish I had never come across this book. It makes me not want to look at anything by this author, as if you can't even bother to get your facts correct regarding the setting of your book why bother with the rest. If I could give this book zero stars I would have.
The box set show three stories but it only contained two. The story "The story the quest house hauntings" was not included. Did not like the Shadows in the light story most. It had a really hard to believe plot. Also found it confusing to read. For some reason, the author was against using pronouns. For example she used the term "mother's sibling" instead of uncle and often used the term sibling to refer to her brother. She did this through out the story for different relatives. Do it made it very difficult to follow the story. Liked the story The hauntings of the Wilson estate more. However, it was a slow moving story and a very predictable plot. Did like to characters in this story. This is the reason for the three stars.
The first book was good. The story of Amy inheriting her mother's haunted property and finding out who killed her grandma and great grandmother, was interesting. After Amy and her brother move to the property, strange things start to happen.
The second book, Willow moves to be a gardener for some rich folks. Strange things occur. Fun, romantic story.
Both books could use a pass with a professional editor, which would have corrected the misplaced words and tightened up the story.
The author has a habit of dragging things out and repeating over and over again points she obviously wants to make. She kept repeating over and over again how this friendship between the 3 main characters was so important to them all. It made them sound desperate. The story had a good plot but could have been much shorter if some thoughts weren’t dragged out and repeated over and over again.
I'm sorry, I couldn't finish the first book in this series. It needs line editing badly. I have to assume the other books are the same. It's a shame that the writer put so much time and effort into writing these story, and didn't bother to get them edited.
I just couldn't get into this book. I gave it 2 stars because it was written OK. I just didn't like the subject or the characters. I don't often stop a book when there's a mystery afoot. I seem to always want to know what is going on. However, I really didn't care on this one.
Each of these 3 books of the box set so far ended really well. Each person got what they deserved! It was kind of hard reading some of the horror and each book is different! do not expect what is in one book to be anything like the prior book.
