A Chilling Firsthand Account of the History and Politics of the Mideast

Chris Mitchell lives in Israel and has been reporting on the conflicts between Israel and the Muslim Middle East for years. This makes him uniquely qualified to give a picture of the major political trends in the area. Although I had read about the desire by the Muslim extremists to eliminate Israel, gain control of the Middle East and ultimately the world, his accounts of the battles he's witnessed, and the interviews with leaders in Israel and scholars who have studied the Middle Eastern conflict made it very real and rather frightening.

Mitchel intertwines the historical and political analysis with a discussion of the Biblical prophecies and the relevant passages from the Muslim literature. The facts of the Jews return to Israel and the subsequent conflicts with the Muslim countries make it seem that the prophecies of Isiah, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah are coming true in out times. It's fascinating reading.

Reading this book, Christians may wonder what they can do to help. Mitchell answers this question by discussing the World Prayer Conference. We can all pray for the survival of Israel. It is commanded by the Bible and Mitchell makes a good case that with so many people praying, God must be listening.

I highly recommend this book. It is well written and gives an account of the Middle East problems that you will find hard to ignore.

I reviewed this book for the Thomas Nelson Booksneeze Program.

Yet after three thousand years, it's unlikely the world will loosen the tenacious Jewish attachment and grip to Jerusalem. Now with the Muslim fierce, full-throated cry to take Jerusalem back, it appears the stage is being set for an apocalyptic showdown on this fault line between Judeo-Christian and Islamic civilizations," Chris Mitchell writes in his book, "Dateline Jerusalem."

At two hundred and fifty-six pages, this paperback book is targeted toward readers interested in blending Biblical prophecies to current day events in regard to the status of Israel and the world. Using mainly the New King James version of the Bible, author Mitchell gives first-hand experience as a news journalist for CBN News living in the Middle East.

After four pages of accolades about the book and an introduction, there are eighteen chapters followed by acknowledgements, notes, topical index, and author's biography. Honing in on the writer's personal eyewitness encounters and experiences throughout the world, history along with political viewpoints are correlated to Scriptural prophecies.

The book starts during Egypt's "Arab Spring" two years ago while Mitchell watched it happen at Tahrir Square as he fled from the revolution. With the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, the country got rid of its leader for so-called democracy

Explaining Ahmadinejad's prayer at the United Nations for the promised one, the Twelfth Imam, and how God is the secret of the Jews, the author reiterates Islamic belief that the "Little Satan," Israel, needs to be destroyed while America, "the Great Satan," needs to be overthrown. The end of the book includes a few miracles and dream conversions of Muslims to a new relationship with Jesus Christ.

Although this book was written in 2013, a lot of it is still very current. Chris Mitchell is a reporter for CBN News, and his reporting talent is evident in the way he writes. The very first chapter deals with his being caught up in the riot in Tahrir Square in Cairo during the Arab Spring. You feel that you are right there with him, as he manages to make his way back to his hotel, and eventually to the airport.
There are 2 or 3 episodes like this in the book, where he is right on the ground at momentous moments of history.
In between, he explains the issues Israel faces, surrounded by Muslim nations who are all set on annihilating the Jews to recover the land which was once ruled (briefly) by Muslims. He also shows how Israel has a legal right to be in the land, how Jews are returning from every part of the world, how people right around the world are praying for Israel 24 hours a day, and how Jesus is revealing Himself to Muslims in dreams and visions, so that many of them now believe in Him rather than Allah.
The title of the book reflects his belief that in the end times, the world's focus will be on Jerusalem, and indeed, 12 years after he wrote this, Israel and Jerusalem are headlines in our papers almost every day. This is still a very relevant read.

Wow! This book literally made my mouth drop on more than one occasion while reading it. Strikingly honest! This book provides a much needed voice where there has, far too long been silence. I am so thankful for the author putting into words the things that people who love Israel have been feeling. This journalist is not afraid to boldly, bravely, report from dangerous territory. Moreover, he's not afraid to share his vulnerable side in doing so. His knowledge of the area and historical references were riveting. We need to be talking about and sharing this book. We need to keep the author in our prayers! Superb read! Kol HaKavod! Well done!

Chris Mitchell lifts the veil on the prophetic events surrounding Jerusalem from across the middle east. From the Arab Spring in Egypt to the radicalization of Turkey, unrest in Syria and the nuclear pursuits of Iran, every major event surrounding Israel today seems to be fulfilling Biblical end-times prophecy.

As a reporter for CBN News, Mitchell not only knows the ins-and-outs of these eventful stories, for the most part, he was on the ground witnessing them as they happened. This exciting book covers a lot of ground with a lot of historical and factual information to help the reader understand the intricacies and seriousness of modern events in the middle east, including a fascinating primer on the history of the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as Iran, Hezbollah, and Syria.

Mitchell also covers the fascinating history of modern day Israel’s beginnings, starting with the 1917 Balfour Declaration, and the 1920 San Remo Resolution, which recognized the Jewish people’s historic, religious, and cultural connections with the land. He explains that Israel is also fulfilling scripture by by “Aliya” or the return of Jews from around the world to their homeland, by causing the deserts to “bloom”, as well as being a blessing to other nations via humanitarian programs which focus on training cutting edge medical procedures and efficient farming methods to countries around the world.

Mitchell encourages his readers in the possibility of “changing history through prayer”- emphasizing the importance of prayer and it’s proven ability to change the hearts and minds of those who direct our future, sharing stories of spiritual awakenings and revivals worldwide, including visions of Christ and massive conversions of Muslims to Christianity in regions too dangerous for evangelists to venture.

Dateline Jerusalem is a fascinating, intense account of events in the middle east. It’s packed with information, but not at all dull- this is one of those great books that leave you with a much better understanding than when you started, without boring the pants off of you. If you have any interest in the mid-east region and/or Biblical prophecy, I highly recommend you give this book a try!

I received this book for free through BookSneeze in exchange for an honest review.

Dateline Jerusalem, by Chris Mitchell, is a telling story of the battles and turmoil of the Middle East. As I started reading this selection, I found myself relating back to the news stories we’ve seen on the evening news and the special reports as thing flare up. What I didn’t realize at the time, is that I was reading a first hand account by a person, (Chris Mitchell), as seen through his eyes and lived through him as well.
As a news reporter for CBN News stationed in the Middle East, Chris Mitchell has first-hand knowledge of the struggles those countries encounter. In the book, Dateline Jerusalem, Mitchell absolutely recounts his experiences as a reporter during war and peace throughout the area and applies the events taking place to prophecy within the Bible.

Written in a chronologically, Mitchell takes readers through various events of the last three years. In vivid detail, he describes what daily life is like in a war zone. In one instance, he is hunkered down below the windows of his hotel room avoiding gunfire and stray bombs.

Mitchell defines the Arab Spring and addresses it’s importance to future events. He discusses the growing world belief that Israel does not have a right to exist. He explains the Muslim Brotherhood, and the growing influence of Islam throughout the United States and around the world.

Finally, Mitchell brings together current news events and Bible prophecy and explains how all these events culminate in one city: Jerusalem.

As a reader, I have some knowledge of what the Bible says, regarding the area and Jerusalem, however, I am not well-studied. Mitchell was able to write this book in such a way that the average person is completely able to understand and relate to what he describes. With just general knowledge of current events, I was able to connect the dots Mitchell drew in detail throughout this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is concerned with events taking place in the Middle East, as I believe everyone should be, and how they relate to the book of Revelation in the Bible.

I would consider Dateline Jerusalem a must read. I liked to take this opportunity to thank Thomas Nelson Publishing/Booksneeze for the change to read and review this book. It is well worth the time and it may actually bring more attention to what is happening around us. Also, Chris Mitchell has a wonderful way of placing the facts in story form to keep the reader interested and glued to the pages.

The book up for review is “Dateline Jerusalem” by Chris Mitchell. It falls in the genre of religion, Christian life and general.

Chris Mitchell is a reporter for CBN News and is stationed in the Middle East. He has lived there long enough t o have first account knowledge of the ups and downs of the countries in this area. The book starts off with him being in Egypt and the revolution going on between protesters and Mubarak’s regime. They want him gone at all cost. Mitchell goes into detail the horror and devastation that occurs during this time frame in history.

But he doesn’t stop there. He details incidents occurring with his time in Turkey, Israel and many other countries. A new order is being pushed to the fore front. While some may have seen this coming not all have. Our author compares throughout the book events to prophecies that are written in the Bible.

All roads lead to Rome but in this book all roads lead to Jerusalem. Israel ever since its statehood has been under fire from the countries that surround it but it has survived at a high cost.

As a reader who loves to read topics mentioned in the book I was pleasantly pleased. It knitted together gaps in my knowledge of the region and the people living and creating the turmoil. The book’s pace was off and on for me though. There were some places that it dragged on to the point it was just dry. Some of the material could have been left out and the point would have still be made clear.

Overall though this was a good read and well written from a person who has been in the trenches in one of the most critical places in our world.

Extremely interesting. The first part about the author getting out of Cairo is so intense. I feel after reading this, I understand the terror and intensity of what is going on there right now. It's very interesting to read about what's going on today, and in the past. The authors knowledge on the Middle East is so good and well thought out. I really loved the parts about Muslim's experiencing dreams of Jesus coming to them and from that following Him the rest of their lives.

A very interesting and insightful read. I rarely miss a day watching the CBN News on the Christian Television Network (CTN), and Chris Mitchell's eye-witness news reporting adds even more behind-the-scenes information that is rarely (if ever) obtained elsewhere. I highly recommend Dateline Jerusalem to anyone interested in knowing more about both the history and the cause of current events related to Israel and the epic battle for Jerusalem.
