The Five Deadly Sins #2

Sinfully Tempted

Rate this book
Tempting a duke is a Deadly Sin.

Tamsin Sinclair is known for her bold manner. As a Sinclair, nicknamed one of the Deadly Sins she is expected to be improper and uncivilized. Seeking solace from the unrelenting whispers about her at a ball, Tamsin retreats to the gardens and makes the unexpected acquaintance of the eccentric, moth collecting, Duke of Ware.

Hayden Redford, Duke of Ware, is merely collecting specimens during his aunt’s ball when he makes the poor choice to pluck a moth from the knee of London’s most notorious young lady. Even worse, their encounter is witnessed by the malicious Lady Longwood. Had Tamsin been anyone else, Ware might have been forced to do the honorable thing, but his aunt insists that wedding Tamsin is out of the question. Nor can the gossip about Ware and Tamsin be allowed to spread through London.

There remains only one solution which will salvage reputations and keep Ware from wedding so far beneath him. A charade is decided. One in which Ware and Tamsin will pretend a vague attachment of shared intellectual pursuits, guaranteed to silence the gossips out of boredom if nothing else.

But as the ruse draws to a close, the attachment between Ware and Tamsin becomes much less vague than planned. Real desire blooms between them just as they must say goodbye.

Will their relationship fade as everyone expects? Or will Tamsin and Ware follow the dictates of their heart?

Note: This series is part of Dragonblade's Flame line, so this is a sexy, steamy, and scorching-hot read with multiple sex scenes. Be advised.

I was totally psyched for this introverted H. Ware is a big cushy nice guy☺️ who is into entomology. The h Tamsin really made me think of the tasmanian devil. She feels loud and prone to making a mess when she flies into situations. Both characters are made vulnerable by self esteem issues. But it is nice the connection is there despite challenges. Good story and side characters, like prior book in series I had to wait too long for some ❤️‍🔥hookups

I adored the combative courtship of Tamsin and Ware. She is a defiant hoyden who knows her place in this world, accepts it despite the guilt she carries as her constant companion. Her family was banished from London by her half-brother in disgrace, and she feels fully to blame. Her close-knit family do not agree, this family is as loyal as they come. Together on complete lack of regard for the ton that disdains them. There is a certain peace in being an outcast and this is what draws Ware to her as he has never fit into the lofty role of Duke. He is a brute of a man, who does not communicate well and lacks any sort of congeniality but he is also tender, loving and fiercely loyal. He reminds me of a large bear with a thorn is his paw, just looking for someone to see him and comfort him. I happen to love their sparring banter, it is a love language all its own and perfect for them. They are perfectly imperfect together and a wonderful story.

How does a girl want to be perused?
She wants to be accosted by a stranger in a dark garden with no preamble, she wants to be pounced upon and discovered only for the stranger to explain that he was interested in a moth. She then wants to be accused of being hysterical to get him off of her.
To keep up the pretence that they are just friends she wants to be dragged to lectures she has no interest in, and denied attendance to an exhibit that she actually likes because the man can't be bothered to take her interest into account.
She wants this man to be continually rude to her, make no effort to get to know her... and THIS is supposed to be a romance????

The hero was just abominable to the heroine. The only times he didn't berate her was when he was lusting after her IN HIS HEAD.
The rest of her family wasn't any better. Ignoring her for most of the book only to completely embarrass her at the end...

I kept waiting for the couple to have a meaningful conversation but it just NEVER HAPPENED. The duke never deigns to ask her about her past troubles and uses her insecurities (that he suspects) to berate her into marrying him.

I have never read a less romantic romance.
I guess I should be happy that the duke didn't rape the heroine. That would have been worse. But that is probably the book's only redeeming quality.

Sinfully Tempted is book two in The Five Deadly Sins books by Kathleen Ayers. I always appreciate a Kathleen Ayers book as it's generally a quick read with a good story. This one falls into that category and my only wish was that there were more steamy parts. I also recommend reading this as part of the series as there are definitely references to things and people that are explained in detail in book one.

This book focuses on Tamsin Sinclair, the sister of the mmc in book one of this series. She's always felt that she was the reason she and her family were banished to the country and barely had enough to survive so when she finds herself in London, she and her family history seem to be all everyone ever talks about. When the book opens, it's the end of the season and Tamsin is working to make it through one last ball. The last thing she expected was to find herself in the midst of a potential firestorm that could ruin everything for her brother and her little sister but...here she is.

The Duke of Ware is considered odd by the Ton. He was the third son and never expected to become the duke. He also has never aspired to be a womanizer like his father or brothers so he focuses more on Etymology than his dukedom. At the last ball of the season, which is at his aunt's home, he finds himself in the gardens looking for a moth...what he didn't expect was to find it on the knee of Tamsin Sinclair.

I really liked these two characters together. The banter was great and when they finally did realize they belong together, it was well done. I'll definitely be picking up the other books as I'm curious to see how things turn out for all the other Sinclair siblings. If you're looking for a new historical romance to pick up, consider this series!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.

Sinfully Tempted. Ware and Tamsin are the total package of entertainment in their story. These two shared interesting tongue lashings when they couldn’t fathom of telling one another how they felt. Other times when they felt that the other was being threatened they banned together to use what ever artillery that they had. The story shares a great deal of information on insects, beetles and moth. That’s where the story loses me, but it instantly picks back when the writer shares the beautiful romance of Ware and Tamsin. I liked that Tamsin’s character was a young lady oh twenty-six who challenges the Duke whom people would never challenge. I can’t forget to talk about the humor that pushes this young couple towards each other. Until next time. Read on. I received a copy of this book for a voluntary honest review.

KU. November Reads. Tropes: Regency Romance, RomCom, Scandal, Fake dating, family/friends, love at first sight ( H), Spinster, Stem Romance (Scientist)
h. Tamsin Sinclair, 26, spinster, eldest sister, 3 brothers & 1 sister: Jordan (Earl) (Countess Odessa), Andrew, Malcolm & Aurora. Tamsin caused a scandal by punching a future Duke in the nose (Thompson, Duke of Ware's son).
H. Duke of Ware, Hayden, scientist (entomologist), mother traveling the Continent, aunt L. Corchon, father and brothers drowned when a ship capsized in the Thames. Hayden's best friend is Odessa, Jordan's wife.

Tamsin went to L. Corchon's house party. She was sitting outside away from anyone when Hayden spying a moth on her leg attempted to catch the moth on her leg. Her busybody family nemesis L. Longwood and her odius daughter caught Tamsin and Hayden in the act of him going under her skirts. His good aunt had to think of a way out of it. She didn't want her nephew to marry into the Sinful Sinclair family. Her solution was that they would form a friendship and by the end of the season it would disolve and they would part friends.

All went to plan except Hayden had a tendre for Tamsin. She also thought he was attractive but didn't want to mess up Augusta's chances for a season.

I wrote out a long review getting everyone up to speed for this second installment of the series, and goodreads crashed without saving it. I hate iPad typing, so this one will be shorter, sorry.

Tamsin is Jordan’s (book 1, Sinfully Wed- go read it first) sister. She has a bad reputation and a big guilt cloud hovering over her. She’s trying to stay out of trouble for her younger sister’s sake.

Henley is a third son who became Duke of Ware after a boat accident killed everyone ahead of him. He’s big, loves bugs, and hates society.

These two have a long slow burn which takes most of the book. Other reviews complain about the lack of steam. It’s steamy in Ware’s imagination for at least 3/4 of the book, then things finally start happening that involve Tamsin too. I took off a star because it was so slow to get moving. I enjoyed it (still 4 stars) but would have loved less build up and more pages spent on their victory over the nasty harpies trying to keep them apart. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series!

An interesting pretend courtship between the Duke of Ware, an entomologist, and the unconventional Lady Tamsin Sinclair.
Most notable, the Sinclair family are seen by the Polite Society as unacceptable. Considered too independent, she has gotten into a lot of trouble speaking her mind and physically expressing her opinion. Between butterflies, moths and beetles, Tamsin and Ware end up in precarious situations with hilarious results. Continuous snickers throughout the book. Open sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Tamsin Sinclair, bold and brash, is nicknamed one of the deadly sins and her family is expected to be improper and uncivilized, and she lives up to that title. She has the tongue of a viper and acts without thinking often causing her family grief. Hayden Redford, Duke of Ware, is not your normal duke. He doesn't really care about the social scene and would rather spend his time attending lectures and collecting specimens of bugs. One night during a ball, he is attempting to catch a moth, but instead he catches Tamsin. Instead of getting married, they decide to pretend an attachment since she is so beneath him in class. What starts as a facade may turn into a real attachment in the end.

I think Kathleen is such a great writer, there is no denying that, but I ultimately struggled more with this one than I was expecting. I think Hayden came off super rude and cruel at some points, and that really turned me off of him. I know, I like a jerk hero too, but sometimes I thought his comments were unnecessary and just flat out mean even when Tamsin was trying to extend an olive branch just so they could have something in common. I do like how he got better towards her at the end and thought there were some very sweet moments. Eventually, he realized she was the one for him and from that point on he was zoned in on her, and I thought there was a lot of growth to their relationship. I just wish it had been happening sooner rather than later. I am also a little sad that there wasn't a love declaration made by the hero. That is my favorite part in the story and was disappointed it was left out.

Overall, I think it was a good book just not my favorite of hers.

I do not think there is a Kathleen Ayers book I do not like and Sinfully Tempted is no exception. Tamsin Sinclair, convinced she is the reason for her Family's banishment to Dunnings. The Duke of Ware, who wasn't supposed to be a Duke. He tried to stay invisible collecting his bugs and she tried to be everything a man didn't want. Until the fateful day the Duke was 17 and saw Tamsin break his brothers nose.

Fast forward, years later, to Lady Curchon's party and Tamsin is 26 hoping to get thru the party and life being a spinster. Hot at the party, Tamsin strolls out to the gardens to get some air. As she sits on the bench, alone, thinking no one is around, she lifts her skirts to get some air flowing to cool off. Unbeknownst to her, the scholarly, bug loving Duke is crawling over to her to catch a moth that landed on her knee. What ensues is Tamsin's nemeses, Lady Longwood, making up stories and causing trouble even though Tamsin swears the Duke of Ware bit her thigh. A ruse by Lady Curchon is formed to prevent the Duke of Ware from marrying an ill-bred Sinclair. Hayden was a Duke after all and the Sinclair's far beneath him per Lady Curchon and Lady Longwood.

With the charade in place to portray Hayden and Tamsin as friends, Kathleen Ayers does what she does best. She weaves a story of dislike, friendship and ultimately love, with some laughter and lots of sexual tension along the way. I really liked Sinfully Tempted and how Kathleen Ayers took her time bringing these two together and kept the sex at bay until it really fit with the story. The Duke didn't want to be anything like his father and the way Kathleen Ayers wrote Hayden's and Tamsin's story, Tamsin wasn't just another conquest for a Duke. Tamsin was Hayden's one and only true love, the one he stood up for, became the Duke no one thought he could be. Their story works and Kathleen Ayers did a great job, as always, writing it. Can't wait to see what she has in store for Book #3.

Kathleen Ayers does it again with this novel. Vibrant characters that, at first, seemed ill-matched, but eventually fit each other like a handmade glove. Hayden fell in love with Tamsin years ago when she punched his awful brother and broke his nose, but never did anything to further that love. When Tamsin goes out in society and they meet again while Hayden is chasing a moth (he's very into bugs!), they commit the cardinal crime of not only being alone together in a darkened, more distant part of the garden, but also, how does one explain why your head is under a lady's skirts? To dissipate the scandal, Lady Curcon, a rather nasty character, determines they embark on a "false" relationship until the rumors die down. She does this more to protect Hayden than Tamsin, whom Lady Curcon despises. Of course, this strategy backfires as Tamsin discovers who Hayden really is as a person and Hayden, after many twists and turns, finally admits his feelings for Tamsin. Naturally, Tamsin has to overcome her feelings of guilt (undeserved but true to her sensitive nature) before she can truly open up to Hayden. Hayden, on the other hand, has to learn to express his feelings so Tamsin can understand him and he has to stop being so logical and apparently detached. I loved this story and look forward to the next in the series which I suspect is about Andrew and why he's had to delay his coming back to London or to their country estate. Although I was given a free e-ARC of Sinfully Tempted by Dragonblade, through Netgalley, all thoughts and opinions are my honest responses.

This has been a delight to read, I couldn't put the book down. Two non conforming people finding each other, much hilarity and their way was not an easy one until they both found their hearts desire. I highly recommend you read this and other books by this author.

Sister to the Earl of Emerson, spirited, short-tempered, strong and willing to do anything for her siblings, Lady Tamsin Sinclair is cast out by Society as a disgrace. Utterly unsuitable for anything but scandal.

Tall, dark and awkward, Hayden Redford, Duke of Ware, is a passionate entomologist and determined to be nothing like his philandering father and debauched elder brothers who all tragically died.

When Tamsin and Ware are discovered in what looks like a compromising situation by the ton’s biggest viper and Tamsin’s lifelong nemesis in his aunt’s garden, a plan is set in motion to dispel the gossip and extricate the Duke from such a disastrous match. The hoyden and the bear are to feign a casual friendship based on his scientific interests, an acquaintance that will fade over time and all will be forgotten…

Tamsin soon discovers there’s something delectably appealing in stroking her bear the wrong way. Grumpy, inarticulate and utterly vexing he may be, but he’s also fiercely loyal. Yet, her reputation would only ruin him, ruin her sister’s chances and break her heart.
Ware has admired Tamsin ever since she broke his brother’s nose over a decade ago, and he’s enraptured by this sharp-tonged, clever little vixen. He sees her vulnerability, her insecurity. She’ll fight and protect her own at any cost, but who will protect her?

📚 This story thrives on the MCs' ability to bring out each other's worst. They bicker and banter as they become increasingly attached to each other. Their chemistry is amazing! The book is witty, sharp, endearing and romantic with a nice helping of delicious steam and completely riveting until the end! I’m looking forward to reading the next one in this series!

What a sweet, romantic story. Neither Ware nor Tamsin were looking for love when they stumbled upon each other. But they were forced to endure each others company to reduce the gossip after being caught in compromising position. The mild enemies to loves trope was so entertaining and I loved their banter! They both had strong reasons to hold back, Tamsin with her poor reputation and Ware not wanting to be rakes like his father and brothers.

But in the end, Ware pursued her and broke down her barriers and I wish got to see more of them as a settled couple! Overall, another great book from Kathleen Ayers and, of course, can’t wait for Drew’s story!

i was iffy on this one from the first chapter but i pushed forward and it got better for a bit before immediately going back downhill. i was hot and cold on the first book too but ultimately i liked the characters enough that i gave that one 4 stars, i didn’t like the plot or the characters at all for this so the 2 stars is well deserved.

4.5⭐️ 1🌶️

Hayden sometimes thought himself a moth. One that circled a blazing torch that was Tamsin, willing to singe his wings for only a moment in the light. Longing for the very thing that terrified him.

Ok, so this book took me by surprise! I loved it way more that I thought I would.

While awkward Heroes can be endearing, and while their stories are nice, they are usually just good enough to enjoy. But I was engrossed with Hayden and Tamsin.

Hayden’s overly large and rough around the edges and a reluctant Duke, after taking over the role when his father and brothers passed years ago. Being the third son, he relished in not having to be a part of polite society and was happy to be lost in his fascination with entomology.

And Tamsin was really great. Resilient and self assured. I felt for her and her struggles with guilt and blame for her family being banished from London. Her need to protect her family takes precedence over her welfare. While this can totally be read as a standalone, so much about the Sinclair family and their circumstance is told in the first book that I highly recommend reading that before this book.

Hayden’s gruff behavior towards Tamsin was definitely off putting initially, but it was quickly reciprocated and there was a battle of wills between Hayden and Tamsin as they had to endure a ruse of an attachment to thwart gossip after they were found in a compromising position. The inner monologue was slow torture as they clearly were feeling things for each other that they didn’t want to admit, and their words contradicted themselves as well. (Ugh, not me getting misty eyed at the scene with the blue butterflies 🦋 🥹)

I loved that there was no silly villain plot to create conflict, just the normal conflict about differences in classes and the lack of acceptance that would bring.

Hayden’s inability to articulate his feelings led the way for their back and forth but eventually when he finally found a way to break through, the chemistry between then undeniable. Once he was determined she was his, there was no going back. He went all alpha on her and I loved it.

While this was a very mild book on spice, the scene on the sofa with the whiskey was so understatedly erotic. 🔥

Kathleen, please do an epilogue book for all of these couples at the end of the series! I definitely miss getting that extra glimpse into the future🫶

Sinfully Tempted by Kathleen Ayers is almost a Beauty and the Beast story, but not quite. Lady Tamsin Sinclair was at the home of Lady Curchon and was totally overheated, which was odd as there were not that many people there. She fled to the garden and went as deeply into it as she could, sat on a bench, and pulled her skirts up just a mite. Enough to give her ankles some air. It was so heavenly that she pulled her skirts up higher. Lord, that felt good. Just then she felt something. Something human? It turned out to be Hayden Reford, Duke of Ware, chasing a moth. Just as she was exclaiming the impropriety of it all, her nemesis, Lady Longwood, appeared, ready and able to spread this gossip to the ton. Just what her family needed. Just what Aurora, her sister needed as she was about to make her come out. A scandal. Thankfully, Lady Curchon, the aunt to the duke, found a simple solution: they would make it appear as though Tamsin and Hayden were friends. It would only be a few weeks and the season would be over and people would depart to the country. The friendship would fade away and be forgotten by next season. All would be well. It worked, until it didn’t.

Tamsin has a reputation, mostly by accident. That man she punch had touched her inappropriately, after all. But, he was the son of a duke. She was a nobody. Now she was a scandal. She was stubborn. She loved to dress in men’s clothing and ride her horse through the countryside. She was a fabulous character. Hayden was trying to live down the scandals his father and brothers had created. He was a touch odd, but he was a scholar so it was expected. Never had he been so entranced by a woman. Their “courtship” was different, to say the least. It was a fun story to read. Neither was willing to admit their feelings for the other and it was fun to watch the avoidance. It was a good story. Way to go, Ayers!

Sinfully Tempted is the second book in The Five Deadly Sins series.

This book focuses on Tamsin Sinclair and the Duke of Ware.

Tamsin believes she is the reason she and her family were banished to the country and struggled to survive. After having arrived in London and attending many balls Tamsyn finds it all tedious and useless. Escaping to the garden to cool off she is accosted by the Duke of Ware as he attempts to collect a moth from her knee. Tamsin mistakenly believes he is trying to harm her, lashes out and strikes him repeatedly causing her to be the focus of unwanted attention by gossiping and jealous matrons.

A plan is put in place to pretend a courtship for a few weeks and then to drop it as the courtship did not pan out.

The Duke of Ware is considered odd by the Ton. As he was the third son and never expected to become the duke, he doesn't care about what others think of him. He also has made a point to not be the womanizer like his father or brothers were, so he focuses more on Etymology.

Now that the charade is all but finished, Ware and Tamsin have become a little more attached to each other than they planned. But Ware's Aunt threatens Tamsin and her sister Aurora, so she distances herself so that they can return to their country home in peace. Ware has his own agenda where Tamsin is concerned but will she finally see that they are oddly perfectly suited for one another, or will she continue to believe that she is to blame for her family's circumstances.

This was a wonderful and entertaining story. I thoroughly enjoyed how odd Tamsin and Ware with one another. It made for fantastic love story.

I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.

One of the things I like most about Kathleen Ayers and her books is the way she develops a character. When I finished this book I could feel the awkwardness of Hayden and his deep love of entomology where he doesn't quite fit in a world where Dukes manage people who manage their properties and not much else but enjoy life, as well as the pain and guilt that Tasmin felt due to her reactions to certain situations that she seems to think changed the course of her family’s life. I also love how often the primary male character in her books can be endearing and kind when so often the male characters are dark and broody rakes that the beautiful lady has to turn into a loving husband. When I’m done with one of her books I feel like I know the characters more than I do when I am reading works from many other authors.

Well, enough waxing on about the books, I’m here to talk about this book and I really liked it, it didn't have the laugh out loud qualities of its predecessor in this series but I loved the relationship that grew between Hayden and Tasmin after their innocent but slightly naughty introduction in the garden when he was hunting moths. The steam level was strong and the villain of the series, Lady Longwood returns with a vengeance but all these things mixed together makes this another great one in The Five Deadly Sins series and I look forward to the next three and getting to know the Sinclair family better.

Another exceptionally well written book by this author. This book holds your attention till the very end and makes you wish that there is more. All characters are well developed and seem to be very real that fits the storyline/plot whether they are good or bad. Full of excitement, love, romance, action butterflies, beetles and a fist. So much history involved with the visits to the museums, shows or just going home to the countryside. Ware is a Duke but wasn't supposed to be as he was the third son. His father along with his two older brothers- the heir and the spare , died in a boating accident.Ware tries very hard not to become what they were. Tamsin has had a hard time growing up as her mother was the mistress/actress before becoming the wife of the Earl, her father. After her father's death, her step-brother from the first marriage leaves them without funds and sells everything he can. He sends them to the countryside where they have to learn to survive. After his death, her other brother tries to restore the families money. Together they meet at a ball and then the fireworks begin. Loved reading their story. What a fabulous love story that has some unexpected twists. would recommend this book to everyone.

Tamsin Sinclair is known for her bold manner. As a Sinclair, nicknamed one of the Deadly Sins she is expected to be improper and uncivilized. Seeking solace from the unrelenting whispers about her at a ball, Tamsin retreats to the gardens and makes the unexpected acquaintance of the eccentric, moth collecting, Hayden Redford Duke of Ware, who is merely collecting specimens during his aunt’s ball but he makes the poor choice to pluck a moth from Tamsin's knee. Even worse, their encounter is witnessed by the malicious Lady Longwood. There remains only one solution which will salvage reputations and keep Ware from wedding so far beneath him. A charade is decided upon.
The second book in the series about the Sinclair siblings & whilst it could easily be read on its own, I enjoyed catching up with Jordan & Odessa. A very well written, well paced book with lovely characters. I loved the britches wearing, outspoken Tamsin & the insect loving Ware they were perfect for each other, the banter between them was witty & the chemistry just got hotter & hotter. It was an unconventional courtship but it made for a good read, which I found hard to put down.

I devoured this! Having read the previous book I was very excited to find out Tamsin would be our heroine and Hayden our hero. Two people who don’t fit into society find each other and I was here for it!

Tamsin is wild and free and stubborn and the opposite of a proper lady. She punches first, thinks second. (Rightfully so, the guys are just asking to be punched.) she doesn’t know which cutlery to use and she can’t dance - it’s all she can do to try to stay out of trouble. Yet trouble finds her in the form of a exceedingly large entomologist duke.

An unfortunate chance encounter leaves the two in the position of having to pretend an acquaintance. Suffice to say, feelings ensue.

I really loved both characters and their dynamic was both fun and full of chemistry. I was thoroughly invested in their every encounter and enjoyed the slow natural progression of feelings. Hayden’s pov allowed us to see just how much he longed for Tamsin and what each of his gruff responses truly meant. This is one of my favourite pairings from Kathleen. I like both of them as independent characters and as a couple. though surprising their chemistry is very present and their banter was endlessly amusing. The romance progressed well and though we have some miscommunication it doesn’t last too long and I enjoyed the anticipation of the HEA. I appreciated the journey they had and really felt for Tamsin as her ingrained beliefs stifled her acceptance of Hayden’s love.
Despite their unlikely pairing, or perhaps because of it, the whole book was a joy and will be marked down as a memorable one.

I also loved all the siblings and seeing Odessa happy with Jordan. I can’t wait for Aurora and Drew’s book (here’s hoping he’s next? 👀). Also Aunt Lottie was a gem and I love that she only adds to the chaos of the sinclairs. I enjoyed the variety of settings we get in this, it felt fresh and unique. Overall an entertaining read with a romance you can root for, not one to miss!

Sinfully Tempted, is book #2 of The Five Deadly Sins series, and stars the Duke of Ware and Lady Tamsin. This was a beautifully written tale about two people that feel like and are labeled as outcasts in the world that they inhabit, albeit for two different reasons, and find each other within it.
The Duke of Ware uses his studies of bugs to avoid the world around him, dodging his sudden, inherited role as the Duke of Ware because he was not supposed to be the one to inherit and he never felt accepted with the world of ton. He only found peace in his academic pursuits.
Lady Tamsin has been labeled as an outcast since her conception, due to the scandal of her mom being an actress and marrying an earl. Her punching the Duke of Ware's older brother in the nose at 16 certainly didn't help the rumors and endless gossip about her family and herself.
When these two characters are forced to fake a friendship in order to avoid a scandal and an unwanted, hasty courtship, the sparks begin to fly.
This was an entertaining, heartwarming read!
I received an ARC from the author and all of these opinions are honest and my own.

Hayden (Duke of Ware) & Tamsin. Another great book by Kathleen Ayers. I thought Odessa (book 1 in this series) was my favorite FMC but she's competing against Tamsin. Tamsin is a firecracker and I love her.

The other interesting thing is how the author makes intelligence super sexy. Hayden is an entomologist (studies bugs) and is known to be a little quirky. He may be quirky but he also gives that sexually experienced aura and also can give that Duke-ish feel. He can put people in their place merely because he's a Duke (he was a 3rd son so he wasn't supposed to ever hold the title). He doesn't always use his title but when he does....oh my....sexy!

As a couple, Ware treats Tamsin like he can't stand being around her. He's a great actor because his desire for her is over the top. She treats Ware like he's haughty and annoying but she also desires him. Their banter is what makes their relationship/chemistry hot. Even though the desire is there, Tamsin doesn't feel like she is good enough to be a duchess given her past.

I received an ARC copy of this book but the above review is my own.

This story has two people who based on others opinoins, don't really belong in society for different reasons. Tamsin Sinclair's parents caused a scandal many years ago that Society will not forget. Hayden Redford, Duke of Ware, has tired to be so different from his father and brothers, that Society thinks he is too odd. Like does Society or Tamsin know that Hayden has ben intrigued by her since she was 17 and gave his elder borther, who at the time was the Duke, a broken nose that Society has not let her forget about 9 years later. What will happen when Hayden and Tamsin decide on a ruse to fool everyone including both their famiies. No spoilers here only to say there are some grapic "steamy" parts in this story.

Yes! I knew Tamsin's book would be good. My heart went out to her for all the guilt she carries, but even more for the way she is treated by society. It always appalls me that people who think they are good and above reproach will talk down to people and treat them unkind over something that usually isn't any of their business. It makes them more unappealing than the person they are ridiculing. And we had this in spades for Lady Tamsin. But wait, we have Hayden, Duke of Ware. How he stood up for Tamsin had me melting. I loved that he wasn't sure how to let her know his feelings. The banter between them was wonderful!

I truly love this series and can not wait for the next one!

Tamsin is no ordinary lady: she rides astride wearing breeches and drinks whiskey so she certainly is not fit to attract the interest let alone be counted by a duke.
The Duke of Ware is no ordinary duke himself that’s why he thinks Tamsin is perfect for him and anything like the insipid girls circling the Ton with less personality than the insects he studies.
After a brief and forced pretended academic interest they separate only to discover that the interest in each other is no pretended at all.
Funny, easy to read, full of wonderful characters this second installment in the series is a story about resilience and how to make the best of the most difficult situations.

Took me forever to get into the story...

I couldn't stand how they had to remind us that Hayden was so large!! He was already odd with his obsession for "insecta", we didn't need him to be so large too! Everytime Tamsin mentioned him being so large, I was remind of notorious BIG raceswapped.

The romance itself was meh... He was supposed to be innocent but he was a pervert with his thoughts alone 🤣🤣🤣 And a virgin who practiced but never did it? Give me a break 😅

Tamsin wasn't really likable too, I get that she had to defend herself a decade ago, but most of her actions present time didn't make sense... And the way she kept talking about Tarpin her captain like ewww 🙄 Who wants to read about another man when the main characters becoming intimate?
